  1. When I become Pinnacle I will be getting a custom Speedo made with ‘Pinnacle’ on one side and ‘700’ on the other. Suggestions on which side to put each? Hopefully I can achieve Pinnacle in my mid age as Father Time is not kind to the Speedo.

  2. I sometimes wear my pin knowing it absolutely gets under some people's skin. I think it's absolutely hilarious that it bothers some people so much these threads exist. I also very much enjoy those moments when I'm not wearing it and some blabbermouth D+ is sitting at a bar like they are king of the cruise world telling everyone within earshot how much they know, most of which is wrong, then I throw down my Pinnacle sea pass card on the bar to order a drink. Go on... dig that hole a little deeper. You were saying?

  3. The best parts of wearing the Pinnacle pin are not the published benefits. Crew deal with an ever changing guest population one cruise to the next. On a typical cruise roughly half of the guest population has never cruised Royal before. Crew are constantly dealing with newbies who don't know how anything works on board. When crew see a Pinnacle pin they instantly know that guest has been around... a lot. They know they don't have to explain things like to a newbie. It's not the kiss ass relationship some people assume. Crew instantly let their guard down and it's like greeting an old friend or fellow crew member. It's an ice breaker. It is said that the Pinnacle pin opens doors. That's not literal, as in crew holding a door open, but a metaphor. It does make onboard life easier in subtle ways. It starts walking to the terminal doors where the terminal contractors see a Pinnacle pin and instantly know that you know the routine. If there is a suite and Pinnacle queue they are already welcoming you without having to show a set sail pass. When I didn't wear my Pinnacle pin boarding and I've had to show my Set Sail pass to enter the right queue I've had terminal contractors suggest that I wear the pin next time. It's easier on them too since they know instantly you are in the right place. Having boarded many cruises I have learned it makes life easier in the boarding process so why wouldn't someone wear it? Why make it harder than it has to be? When it's time to start boarding and they call Suites and Pinnacle the terminal folks that are gatekeepers looking for eligible guests for that moment in time can instantly see you are Pinnacle. No need to examine your papers, keep the line moving. It's just easier. Why make it harder?

  4. Still rough seas but nothing like it was. Got out of bed around 10 and forced myself to find my friend but we spend over an hour looking for one another because internet was down. Can’t be mad because who knows what was going on with Ian. I gave up and got myself a drink. Was it the smartest with not feeling great? Probably not but it was fun. Rained on and off all day til later afternoon but we drank the day away first at the pub then Vintages and then naps since we were both a little queasy. Lunch was the MDR- meh. Wasted some time in the casino. Dinner. Dinner. Dinner was 150 CP. what a lovely dinner. The food was great and we were both very happy. Still trying to get through my OBC so I splurged on a bottle of Moët. My friend isn’t fancy but she enjoyed it. Got the cheese plate for dessert. Holy crap. Real cheeses, good cheeses. Even a perfect sized spread of Allouette. Every dinner has been decent to good so far (Giovanni’s, Izumi) but this felt special. I don’t know what’s going on with either of us but we’ve been content to skip entertainment every night. Dinner has been at 730 and if we make it til 10pm it’s late. No complaints, we just are tired.

  8. They do not want to pay the up charge to the cruise line. If they did it would cost the $84pp that the other beaches do. Glad they do not, at least for Nachi Cocom. I will take the $59 charge and pay the taxi fare for a real all inclusive exclusive beach, personal palapa and much better food. The best part is the bartender is super friendly and will fix our drinks exactly (strong) as we like them.

  10. There are passengers at all levels who do things that are improper or obnoxious. When they wear a Pinnacle badge it's not the Pinnacle badge that made them that way. That is just the way they are at the grocery store back home or on a ship. Honestly now looking back there are more obnoxious and whiny Diamond Plus members. It's not Diamond Plus that makes them that way. On a typical cruise there are hundreds of Diamond Plus while there may be ten or twenty Pinnacle. By shear numbers there are more obnoxious and whiny Diamond Plus because there are ten or twenty times the numbers of Diamond Plus compared to Pinnacle. A cross section of every level from Gold to Pinnacle will have obnoxious members. By shear numbers there will be more of them in every level compared to Pinnacle. Yet Pinnacle are known because of the Pinnacle pin. If every level wore a label only then would it be revealed who are the worst offenders. The lore of bad Pinnacle behavior becomes told like stories because like a bad driver in a company car it sticks out in people's minds. The same bad behavior from any other guest gets written off and forgotten.

  11. I wore my early pins as tie clips or lapel decorations. A D+ pin remains on my backpack. If someone behind me anywhere on the planet sees it they likely don't know the cruise connection while anyone who is D+ or above would likely understand what it is. Once I earned the Pinnacle badge I wasn't wearing it very often. More than one loyalty ambassador encouraged me to wear it more. One even stated they wanted more people to see there are nice Pinnacle too. When I don't wear it no one knows that I am Pinnacle. Standing in line like everyone else I blend into the crowd. No one comments on Pinnacle who know and follow the rules because the majority of Pinnacle who do follow the rules blend in. No one knows we are amongst them. That is the vast majority of Pinnacle. When I wear the Pinnacle badge and stand in the same line only then does anyone know I am Pinnacle. What has changed? I am still standing in line to enter the theater like everyone else. Then the crew start to open the doors and ask if there are any suite guests or Pinnacle and we are allowed in first. Now people get out of sorts. Now we are labelled as rude or line jumping. Royal owns the ship. Their ship, their rules. If someone is wearing the Pinnacle badge they are now identified. Like driving a company car with a large logo you stand out from all the other cars. At this point people wait and watch for any perceived transgression even if it isn't. They didn't use their blinker long enough!!! What is it that drives some people bonkers over the Pinnacle badge? Royal took a lot of effort to create them and distribute them. Royal decided to make it a name badge. Is it jealousy? Is it fear of missing out? It's just a piece of jewelry. Do these same people get upset when someone wears earrings or a necklace? Look at that person wearing massive diamond earrings?!!! To the theater no less!!! Do these same people sit in coach class on a plane and silently brood knowing that more loyal guests in the airline's loyalty club received a free upgrade to first class? When boarding a plane and walking past first class do they silently guess who paid for a first class seat and who received a complimentary upgrade? When boarding a Southwest flight do these same people hate on people who get to board before them because those passengers earn that by flying more?

  12. Royal provides all levels of CAS badges. If they are not to be worn then what is their purpose? To be placed in a box or a nightstand never to see daylight? It's more curious to me why it gets under the skin of some people. That is more telling than anything else.

  16. RCL does have a ship tour that goes to the kitchen, but the last price I saw was about $190 per person. $190 per person is better spent on 4 specialty restaurant dinners than one tour, in my opinion

  17. There is the "All Access Tour," which has recently returned after a COVID inspired hiatus. It takes you into the kitchen and provisions areas, the engineering control room, the bridge and the laundry area. It was very interesting and informative, I enjoyed it a great deal!

  21. Hi again. We sailed on Indy (first cruise) in 2019, staying on deck 7, balcony cabin 7668. We found the location good so this time around when looking to choose a cabin on Anthem We were thinking of booking a cabin location similar to our cabin on Indy. However I've read a few things on various sites saying that the lifeboats below on deck 5 or 6 can really affect views from deck 7. Since views are important to us I'm now considering a cabin on deck 12. (Posted yesterday re a cabin near the Concierge club- thank you for replies) I know everyone is different but I'd love to get some feedback here. We like to sit out on our balcony a fair bit and relax so don't want to risk any view spoilers. Thank you so much. This site is so good! I asked screeds of questions before our first cruise in 2019 and can honestly say that the tips and advice I received on this blog was invaluable.

  23. I would urge caution with booking Blacklane, especially where finding last minute replacements would be pricey. I've booked three rides with Blacklane. One of them was an amazingly wonderful experience in Chicago with one of the most professional drivers I have ever met. Once they cancelled my ride about 12 hours before pickup, and once they cancelled about 60 minutes out while I was in the air.

I guess the guy responsible for email updates is asleep. click on the health button in the Royal app and be guided by that. It should be current, I know it is current gif my cruise To Canada in 2 weeks.

    Next Cruise

Next Cruise OBC is protected during a reprice. Promotional OBC is not. I've booked cruises on board during a promotion when all guests received some OBC like $75. If I had booked this cruise on land I would have received $75 because that was the promotion running that week. I received Next Cruise OBC like $100 and I received promotional OBC like $75 for a total of $175 in OBC. During a reprice later on the Next Cruise OBC was protected - the $100. The promotional OBC is lost during a reprice unless there is some other promotional OBC offered while repricing.

  32. Day 5 (Cozumel): Day 4 pics will be uploaded with day 5 since I forgot to do that earlier! Today was amazing! It was mom's birthday celebration today and she was treated like the queen she is! We started the day off getting ready for our excursion and then all heading to Coastal Kitchen (the suite restaurant) for breakfast where Jay had our coffee order delivered and waiting for us right when we walked in the door. Star class is so nice!!! The girls followed shortly after because their excursion was about 30 minutes after ours. Gede (our server that we've had each time we've been to Coastal) was on it and we had breakfast in about 7 minutes. The girls arrived and their breakfast was just as quick. It was perfect! Jay came up to get us in Coastal and escorted us off the ship and to the excursion meeting area. He got us settled and then got Kenzie and Kayla set up for their fun day. Smooth sailing! Mom and Cindy were doing a dolphin encounter today, Kenzie and Kayla were doing a beach day, and Tim and I were accompanying Mom and Cindy...Tim to be paparazzi and I was down by the encounter area to assist with mom if needed. I didn't want a repeat of the plane, and she's about as light as a feather in water that was a little choppy. I was glad Cindy was in there holding onto her. Others around her also assisted with Mom, holding onto her to keep her steady, then offering a hat when I got worried she had been in the sun too long (they wouldn't let anyone wear sunscreen in the dolphin enclosure). We got hundreds of pics, and then purchased the package of all the digital pics and two prints. The pics made Cindy tear up every time she saw them because this was something she had always wanted to do and never thought it would happen. I love that this made her that happy!!! When we were waiting on the pics, they offered lunch and drinks, and we declined both. We asked about water, wanting bottled, and they said no, it was filtered tap - um, can someone say NO WAY!!! I think she was offended, oh well! I'm not going to let Mom end up with tummy problems because we let our guard down. We ate at Coastal Kitchen as soon as we were back on the ship. Waaaaaaay better than any free lunch at a dolphin encounter place!!! After lunch, we put our suits on and went to the Solarium. It was nice - busy in there, but nice. There was only one server in there trying to manage drinks for everyone - holy cow!! Kudos to Wei! We got our first drink round and ordered another one. In the two(ish) hours we were there, we got 2 drinks each and were waiting on a water for Tim, and finally gave up. We came back to the room to another star class snack (I mean feast) and hung out on our balcony for a bit. It was so windy, and we realized there was no way we could eat on the balcony tonight. We messaged Jay and found out that our meal was about to leave the kitchen and head our way. We tried to figure it out but Jay ended up setting us up in Coastal Kitchen and had our food rerouted. Gede was our server once again and he got us all square away. He delivered the food that had been traveling all over the ship, and the kitchen did everything they could to revive it. By this time in the cruise, we've eaten so much food that we really could have skipped this meal entirely, and we wouldn't have felt it, so the steaks that were very overcooked because of the reheat, didn't really bother us. Everyone ate what they wanted of the dinner, and it was great because this was Mom's birthday celebration night. We made a big deal about it and she felt special! We had originally forgotten them, so Kayla ran back to the room to get the birthday queen tiara and sash. She wore them both proudly and got happy birthday wishes from so many people all evening! She loved the attention!!! Cindy snuck back to the room just as we were leaving port so she could take some cool pics leaving the port in the sunset. We asked Gede to send mom's cake up to our room and we met Cindy along the way to the comedy show. While waiting for Jay outside of the show, everyone leaving the ice show saw mom in her tiara and were telling her happy birthday. Cindy and I were about to break out in song for her just to see if the group would join us, and that's when Jay showed up. I'm pretty sure they all would have started singing had we started it. The comedy show was great! The first guy was really good, and the second guy was good, but not as good as the first. It is not a clean show, so set your expectations! If you like comedy, we would recommend this show. There was one gal in our audience that had this loud, high-pitched cackle and the first comedian called it out saying it was a great laugh. OMG! She got so loud after that and super annoying. Aunt Cindy wanted to strangle her by the end of the night!! The second comedian wasn't as amused by her, and it pretty much shut down the laugh - thank God!! We came back to the room and found Kenzie and Kayla passed out from the long day in the sun, so we called it a night. Tomorrow - no coffee delivery and no breakfast order! We're sleeping in as long as we want and taking it easy! Pics tomorrow.

  34. I got all my pins up to Diamond, making D+ in Jan, but they are still in the thing they came in. I am indifferent either way, wear them or don't. My issue is the people who throw their status around: i.e. "I am diamond do this, give me that, pledge your soul.......etc." My last cruise had about 5 pins, they were are pretty nice and they all wore their pins. People would indeed come up to them.......but people would also come up to me and ask questions. Lots of newbies would ask what "diamond prime" means when they read my seapass card.

  35. Have up through D+ pins. I don't wear them. They are collecting dust on a shelf at home with some photo albums and other trip knickknacks we have collected over the years, including our crystal blocks and my little Delft House collection from KLM Business class I don't think they're pretentious, per se. They just aren't something I would affix to my wardrobe while cruising. I'd rather Royal color-code the room keys by loyalty tier to subversively flaunt one's status. lol.

  37. Up until high school we took our daughter out of school to travel. School should never get in the way of learning! She met people from all over the world, experienced different cultures and foods, learned about sea creatures and Mayan civilization. She (and we) remember all those trips fondly. PS. She did just fine with missing school, got her undergrad in 3 years and was dean's list every semester in graduate school.

  41. On a recent cruise we witnessed a couple who were pinnacle wearing their pins, they made comments about how other cruisers did not know what they were doing and the whole week we saw them with their pins on everywhere they went. I think sometimes if you have to wear a pin for importance you have lost the reason to cruise. Being Diamond almost diamond plus does not make me better than a first time cruiser it just makes me better acclimated to the ship so I can move around easier. I believe pins and other awards are for those who feel the need to show off. When I cruise I just want to relax. I will never forget that couple as when we left the ship they were on our shuttle bus to the Park n Go and were still making comments about how new cruisers just did not know what they were doing. Bad Look for them but it takes all kinds in this world.

  47. They're back to normal for both programs. AO Babies is the nursery (6-36 months kids) and that's operating like it did pre-2020. AO Junior is the new name of the 3-5 year old group and that's also back to normal. Not sure what questions you have specifically, but you can expect both to be available on your cruise.
