codyh21
We really enjoy Playmakers. On our last Navigator sailing we had UDP so used that instead of somewhere like WJ upon boarding. Fair amount getting a drink there but very few ordering food so service was very quick. I think many either assumed it was just a bar or didn't realize they could get food right away. I think they just couldn't handle the crowd of both the Key people (who dine in the MDR) and a restaurant full of UDP people. They just don't have the staff. We had to eat at Giovanni's when we were on Oasis in December. Vacation Crazy, Thecatlady and Ogilthorpe 2

For the past year or more (I think this basically started when they changed the "Ultimate Dining Plan to the "Unlimited Dining Plan"), there has always been at least 1 specialty restaurant open on embarkation day here in the US. I have never been turned away from using my UDP on embarkation day. It is easier when you are in a suite, as the Suites Concierge can make your reservation for you, but even when not in a suite I have been able to get in. If you are sailing from the US, I think you can assume that you will be able to eat in a specialty restaurant on embarkation day if you have the UDP. The first time we stopped by it was very busy, but I caught the eye of one of the servers and smiled and he found our waiter immediately. After that, we were generally recognized and always had someone at our table within a few minutes, and meals and beverages came out at a very reasonable rate with very good, friendly, service. Maybe they just have it together on Symphony. I really enjoyed Playmakers. Can I just go now? CrimsonCruiser
Room service! I know this probably sounds crazy given the embarkation day hecticness, but (and maybe it's cuz we get a suite) the food comes fairly quick and is always yummy. Plus we can unpack while waiting for the food to arrive (if luggage has made it to us) or just chill after the adventure of getting on the ship without bumping into the EVERYBODY. lol. In fact, in all 3 past cruises, we rarely left our room before muster because the boarding process just crowded all the halls.
