Star Class Hostility?

Recommended Posts

I saw some comments in another thread that leads me to believe that some may have experienced some Star Class hostility when they were taking advantage of some Star perks such as jumping to the front of the line for certain events or getting seated in the front row for shows etc.  Just wondering if anyone had actually experienced some comments from other passengers on board.

I have never experienced anything like that but then again, I do not look for it, either.

I would not let it bother you. You paid for, and certainly deserve, those perks when you booked your Star class cabin.

We had similar responses every now and then even with the Key back in May 2019 (reserved seating at shows, early disembarking the ship on port days, etc.). People just had no idea what the Key was, but that was back in 2019. No hostility, but many confused faces...

While not hostility, I know my inlaws have been frustrated by being bumped as pinnacle members (over 700 nights on board)  from prime seating by Star class. While I (or they) do not have a problem with people paying for prime perks that kind of loyalty should not be dismissed.

Star class with no C&A or other discounts is usually $10k+ so who cares about hostility. When I went to Egypt, we had private everything and we definitely got comments and looks. I was young when I flew 1st class for the first time and I had people be outright rude to me in the lounge. Some one is going to always be a hater. I do agree that loyalty should be taken into consideration but don't let anyone stop you from enjoying something you paid for.

We have....seems to come out the most when you use star class perks for high demand activities that involve kids like bumper cars and roller skating on Anthem.

Yeah, it was always the line cutting that seemed awkward.

Might overhear a comment or two about the reserved seating. More so when large swaths of seats have been reserved and remain unoccupied until the drapes are removed just before the show starts. I hear more balking over the Suites/Top Tier Crown and Society reserved section.

Only other spot I've heard some hostility with has been the FlowRider. Maybe if jumping the line getting escorted off the ship when first arriving at a port of call.

Next would be disembarking the ship the final morning. However, I feel the Suite guest group getting escorted off cause more of a rumbling due to the numbers. Small group a Genie escorts off, maybe a few looks. Large group the concierge escorts off, defiantly will hear a few choice words.

Embarking, maybe if the Genie has to cut in front of a group for the elevators. Don't recall on either of my Star sailings the Genie kicking anyone off the elevator, they just made a comment to them about enjoying the express ride.

understand, have heard it while in line for something and I always make a point to also make a comment just to be generally overheard, like if we would have have paid 10 or 15 thousand for our cruise that could have been us also.  sometime people just have to be reminded that money is privilege, that's just a fact.

Don't let it bother you!! just enjoy that privilege.

Can the Genie lockout the elevator car from stopping at other decks? This only happened we we did the galley tour, the host could lock out the car from stopping on other decks as the car was already full. What about galley, back stage show tours? Do I have to purchase them in the planner or can this be requested to my genie and receive a complimentary tour?

Yes, the Genie does have the magic card that overrides the elevator car from making additional stops for pickups. Card can also be used to summon an elevator car.

They can arrange a backstage, galley, bridge tours. However, right now I think bridge and galley tours have been halted for health concerns.

Cool, thanks for the info. Do you normally pay for the tours (as seen in the cruise planner) or is it complementary? The galley and bridge tour is available for my August 2021 sailing in the cruise planner. Not SC this cruise though.

Star class, complementary. If you're looking at the All Access Tour, that is completely different and you'll have to pay for it.

There’s always going to be envy at every level of life.  I’m probably too old to say this, but Haters are gonna hate.

Hell, I have two trucks (they’re a want, not a need) and hear sarcastic things like “It must nice” all the time.   We hear it about our remote cabin and land too…..and it is nice.   We work hard and have made sometimes difficult  choices throughout our lives to get to the point we’re at financially.

One thing we really like about cruising Royal Caribbean is that even though we usually cruise in inside cabins and get no other add-ons besides internet, we’ve never felt like we were 2nd class.

I say more power to those who choose to cruise Star Class.  I’m glad you are able to cruise the way you want.

I've seen a couple instances where people ignore the red seat covers with "RESERVED" in large letters at a show.  Then the Genie comes along and tells they have to move.  At this point they freak out and claim all sorts of things.  Some slink away quietly knowing they got busted, some have a full Karen moment even in the pre-Karen days.

Naturally they rant about Star Class but it's their own stupidity on display.

Lots of people do the same with the reserved rows for Sky Class.  They see empty prime seating and decide to go for it only to be blocked by a crew member.  Then the whining begins.  I feel bad for the crew who have to police it, they've heard the same old rant every show, every cruise.

When I had the Key one time there were two us at the Flowrider during the hour reserved for Key members.  We just went again and again after each other.  Other non-Key guests were giving us the stink eye.  Too. Friggin. Bad.

Don't like it?  Buy it.

Their ship, their rules.  Don't ever feel bad using the perks you paid for.

Not a member of star class personally so it's probably jealousy.  All I know is I'll be enjoying my "Vax-Class" perks when I'm sailing in Aug. ?

Hopefully the only perks that come with the vax are those that relegate others who you should not be afraid of to a different level of service.

We will have The Key for our Symphony cruise next year. I guess we should be prepared for "the look" as well. Knowing me I'm actually going to like getting the look. Lol.

Until you mentioned this I had forgotten about the encounter we had a number of years ago in the Aqua Theater.  A man had sat in one of the seats that Reyno had reserved for us and there was a very very bad encounter.  In the end, security was called and the gentleman who was sitting in the reserved seat (his wife was in a regular seat) finally, begrudgingly, moved but made her stay put.  It was an awkward show.  Other than that one time, I don't think we've had any problems.

We experienced the elevator thing on the first day.  Our Genie got the elevator doors opened and everyone jumped on.  The Genie politely said I'm sorry you have to get off.  Once empty the four of us plus the Genie got on.  I heard who the He... are they as the doors closed.

I come at this from a different angle, every penny I have I earn from painstakingly hard work and then careful decision making. I never consider having my finances in check/order as a privilege;  I carefully choose how I spend what I have, for example I never cruised until in my 50's because I had other commitments at the time.

When I see Star Class people I look at them with admiration, knowing one day I will either Royal Up win or book a Star Class when that experience is the most important thing to make me part with my monies. I look at their joy and I am so happy for that family and strive to be in that place someday.

For example right now I have contracted an in ground pool Oasis in my backyard and the price tag is north of 100,000. No Star Class for me until that bill is firmly behind me, when I was young I saw what others had achieved and worked like crazy to get there, nowadays it seems this type of thinking has given way to a bit of the opposite.

So when you are in Star Class & I am not but I smile & wave at you...I'm not being creepy I just think you are so cool & want that for myself in the future.

Signed,

@WAAAYTOOOfan club president!

I would have asked for your autograph, figuring you were a TV/Movie star I didn't recognize, or at least somebodies Senator or maybe a federal judge. ?
