  2. I think it's definitely positive news. I think we've all learned at this point not to assume anything in terms of forecasting the future, but it's a step in the right direction for bringing COVID down from a public health emergency.

  8. DT said the Covid talk would go away after Nov 4th.....he's been right...I haven't see much at all about Covid deaths and cases in the US since, even though its record setting and will continue to be I am sure with all the celebrations for Biden that the news wont criticize or call super spreader events....? As for a vaccine..I'll take any news we can get that gives us any hope or good news!!!...this seems the most promising so far out of all of them....Here in Canada, our prime minister is hopeful that first quarter of 2021 we will have vaccines rolling out...at least in limited #'s.

  10. At least 350 new accounts just to "volunteer" and most are probably wondering why they haven't heard back from Royal Caribbean about their offer to volunteer. "I posted my information. Why haven't they contacted me yet? Do they even check the website?"

  11. As a glass half-full kind of guy, I think @Matt may have accidentally provided RCG an invaluable service: a database of individuals who should ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT be involved on a test cruise due to an inability to process information and/or follow directions. I'd think Dr. Johnson, Dr. Gottlieb and the rest of the Healthy Sail Panel would appreciate dodging this entire magazine worth of bullets.

  14. Not sure what channels you have down there..we only have MSNBC, FOX, NBC, CBS, CNN, HLN, ABC, CBC, CTV....and I haven't seen those diagrams on the screens on any of them that count the cases and deaths like they were before....but I can only speak of what I see on my tv, not yours. The four seasons yard care...nothing to do with Covid or cruising so I wont even go there, that's just a political dig at Trump...

  15. It might not be a slam dunk (it could still be), but it's definitely points on the board. In all likelihood, it is higher than 90% effacious and we were given a lower limit due to the power of the analysis at n=94 cases. It is possible that out of all of those cases, none were in the group that received the vaccine and the correct read-out would still be "greater than 90%" and not the "apparent 100%" that you might think. What is standing out to me is that 94 is much higher than the original 32 that we were told would be the benchmark for the first interim analysis. When I researched why that was the case, I read that Pfizer was negotiating with the FDA about moving the number to 64 but by the time the negotiation was finished they ended up with 94 cases. Changing a study's design like that is concerning, so I would expect to hear more details about that soon. It would be interesting if the FDA wanted to move the case count higher to lend more credibility to the analysis in the face of so much political pressure... That would be preferable to the alternative, which could indicate a systemic flaw in the trial design. Also editing to address the comment that this is the efficacy of the first shot: it's not. Pfizer's efficacy clock starts one week after the second shot is administered. Meaning anyone who enrolled in the trial, and caught COVID before the second shot would not be included in this data-set. They also wouldn't be included if they caught it within 7 days of the second shot.

    Price drops

Yes...our Freedom August cruise is the one where we've received many price drops. In fact, I have a total of 20 invoices ? For this cruise, we started out in an interior, and then upgraded a few times . Now we have a spacious balcony, which is around what we originally paid for the interior. (KSF helps). This is our only cruise though that has had that many changes in price. Not sure why, but I'll take any price drop.

  23. This thread just gets funnier and funnier. Best one in a long time. I too would like to volunteer. However, I think the best way to trial all of these protocols is to test them under the most severe conditions. I volunteer to captain which ever ship is chosen. The largest ship I have been at the helm is a 17.5 ft Norseboat. I have never tipped it (although I have come vey close). I honestly say I would be, by far, the worst captain in the fleet. Still, we need to have the worst conditions at sea to really stress the systems. I will be bringing along some help: Chief Medical Officer: Major Frank Burns (all you young people can look it up). Master Lookout: Mister Magoo Anti-Piracy Watch: Jack Sparrow Navigator: My Mom (I loved her dearly, but she never took the same route home for our trips from Plattsburgh). ? CAPTAIN CURT FROM CANADA

  27. speciality coffee first thing in the AM, with a bottle of water. then colada's by the pool, or whatever the drink is around the pool that day, several! I'll try anything more specialty iced coffee, and water around lunch time I like to go to a couple bars and ask them to make me whatever they like to make- whether it's their speciality drink or just some fun new drink they enjoy or whatever, it's a "surprise me" moment and they seem happy to comply. more iced coffee and water on the rocks drinks with dinner; again either specialty frozen or anything on the rocks my drinks are all virgin, and i have a blast trying new things!

    Price drops

We L&S'd our Allure cruise from this September to the exact same cruise, same week, on Harmony in September 2021. At the time we did that, the going rate on Harmony was almost $1,000 more than our price. Since then, it has definitely come down a good bit in price, varying roughly between $250 and $350 more than our rate depending on whatever "sale" is happening at the time. I have to say we got an absolutely cracking price when we made our original booking literally two days before the whole C-mess kicked off in Italy so I doubt we will see it go lower, but I check hopefully at least once every couple of days. You never know...??

    Price drops

If anytime after you book the cruise and final payment date there could be price drops and if you make a mock booking for the exact same ship, sail date, length of cruise, amount of people on the reservation (kids+adults) room category (interior, oceanview, balcony, or suite) then select the type of room you want from the category you choose & then in the upper right corner (if using a computer) or if you tab on the 3 lines in the upper left corner (if using a smartphone), but if you use a computer or smart phone you will see what the current price of the cruise is just by creating a mock booking just by using the exact same ship name, length of cruise, number of people on the reservation (kids+adults), room category & room type, & if the cruise has a price drop that is lower that when you booked you can either tell your travel agent (if you used one) that you want the cheaper price and they will get you the lower price or you can call royal Caribbean (if you booked directly with them) and provide them with your booking number and then tell them that you would like the lower price.

  35. Try Quantum class for sure. Anthem is based out of Cape Liberty. Like stated above, Odyssey will be based out of Florida. We booked Odyssey for FEB 2022 out of Ft. Lauderdale and can't wait! It will be our first Quantum class experience.

  37. For me, my days are pretty consistent: Breakfast - Fresh-squeezed OJ and a grande cappuccino from the cafe One or two days of the trip I'll follow that up with a jalapeño bacon Bloody Mary Another cappuccino around mid-day On embarkation day and port days I always get a reposado or añejo margarita for sail-away On sea days I might get one beer around lunch time, if the ship has a decent import option; if not, I'll get a lighter drink like "She's a Geisha" (sold only at Izumi) On port days I always get two bottles of water when I leave the ship At dinner - 2 glasses of wine (either bottles I brought with me, or if I bought the DBP then slightly more-expensive options that are mostly covered it) After dinner - A glass of Bailey's on the rocks with a shot of espresso mixed in; kind of a reverse Irish coffee And then I'll be drinking bottled or ship's tap water around all of that through the day.

  41. While I don’t use any of those platforms, there are millions who would disagree with you. There are a lot of things out there that I don’t like or don’t understand the attraction to, so I just don’t use them. Ultimately, it’s up to the owner of this site whether it gets locked or not. I think all the “I volunteer” posts in spite of the multiple disclaimers makes quite a statement about society

  42. Something just dawned on me about all these individuals who are volunteering, especially the "newbies". I hope EVERYONE realizes you are volunteering to test protocols out AND THAT YOU STILL WILL BE PAYING FOR THE CRUISE!! IT'S NOT A FREE CRUISE!!

  44. What gets me are the people who think Key West is some sleepy little town that without cruise ships will go back to being Hemingway-esque. You have an international airport, spring breakers up the wazoo, and enough tourists from the Southeast US to make it one of the top tourist destinations in the USA. Every city has its set of problems, cruise ships were not one of them for Key West.

  45. You will have NO problem then. Let the Genie know ahead of time that your sisters-in-law will be along but don't ask for or expect any acknowledgement up front. They will be included...I'm sure of it.

  46. I'm hearing alot of volunteering going on but lets set the record straight here. As a volunteer, you will be required to do a lot of tasks. It will NOT be a total vacation. For those who have done the Carnival Fathom, like me, that it gave travelers who were interested in doing charitable work on vacation a place to call home. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Gave me such a good feeling. I also volunteered to do mock 911 training which was another thrilling experience. This will be the same thing. There will be alot of testing, drills and mock situations and what RCG will be monitoring and improving upon OUR response to the given situation. You have to make sure you know what you are volunteering for as you will be signing a contract/agreement to do them. I, for one, will have no issues whatsoever as I've done many of them and it's a great learning experience.
