I’ve never really cared what other people think anyway. ? As far as cruising, people who ask me about it get an explanation of why we enjoy it so much. I’ve actually been able to educate some people who knew nothing about cruising but had all kinds of opinions. We will have no concerns going on our next cruises (first is in November). I’m considered “essential” since I’m a butcher/meat cutter for a large regional grocery chain. Our reality is that I’m risking exposure to all kinds of things daily. I’m probably safer on a ship. ?

Royal has often posted high package prices on distant cruises. Its been discussed here many time long before the virus. In the end the market dictates the price. If package prices are too high people won't buy them, then they lower prices until the desired sales volume is reached.

Q: every fall (for those of us in the north) the geese fly south for the winter. For a few weeks, you can look to the sky and see large formations of geese flying in a giant "V". One curious aspect of the formation is that it is not balanced, one leg of the "V" is always longer. After years of research, they now know why. What do you think causes the phenomenon? Odyssey Nov. 2020 deluxe beverage package is 61 $USD which is actually a good price for a 4 night cruise. It's long been noted that cruise planner package pricing 12 - 24 months out is high. Simple response is don't buy it that far out. In the aftermath of the $18 drink package mistake any occurance of a high price 18 months away was incorrectly blamed on attempting to correct for the $18 mistake. It's no surprise to me that once again people are seeing high package prices 12 - 18 months away and now incorrectly claiming that COVID is to blame. If COVID was the reason then all cruises for the rest of 2020 would have high package prices - they don't. Wait until your cruise is 6 months away and start looking again.

Not sure if this has been posted about, but remember when cancelling cruises that you may have purchased travel insurance. Some places are allowing you to cancel the insurance and get a refund providing you can prove that RC cancelled the cruise and you have not made any claims on the policy.

What an unreal turn of events over the past 4 months. FWIW - I loved Australia and was looking forward to returning. That might be delayed a few years but I'll be back.

The Zaandam had passengers that were on both a 14 day sailing (to disembark in Santiago ) and passengers that were on a 17 day sailing (Santiago to Fort Lauderdale) and passengers that were on 31 day sailing (to disembark in Fort Lauderdale). So there were passengers on the ship whose end points were actually Fort Lauderdale. Rotterdam also had Fort Lauderdale as their planned disembarkation point.

I am glad you got to enjoy your time down in this part of the world. We were only on a cruise 5 weeks ago, that seems like a lifetime ago. The virus was just something on the news in the background. Now we are locked down in our homes for the next 4 weeks trying to break the chain of infection. i am working from home but really look forward to the day when I can return to the office. We were also due to get married next month but have had to postpone the wedding until next year. Stay healthy twangster and everyone else in our online community.

I was waiting for my Jan 2021 Cruise Planner options to open, and they finally have. I am seeing the same $72 for the Deluxe Bev. and $34 for the Refreshment pkg. The 3 device Surf and Stream is also $53.97 which is a huge jump up from what I paid for the same 3 device S&S just in February. Interestingly, if you add 25% to the normal-ish $58 DBP price, you get $72.50. Maybe this makes up for the 125% Cruise Planner deal on cancelled cruises? #RoyalMathWillGoOn

I guess you are either happy to be a cruise lover or not. I can´t wait to get back on board. Hopefully they will have some deals as soon as they get an idea when it will be clear. Hopefully it will get sorted out by summer.

I can just about guarantee most Illness that breaks out on ships (norovirus) comes from people being exposed on the airplanes they flew in on. Most norovirus on ships seems to occur during the winter season. Airplanes IMO are absolutely filthy.

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. I have a back-to-back scheduled June 12 and 15. I went ahead and paid them off. If they keep to the current schedule and things are returning to normal, then great! If the cruise lines push another 30 days, that should be June 11... so maybe? If they push another 60 days, I'm hoping for the 125% FCC to still be in effect. I weighed all of that against wanting to be one of the first to cruise again (if they push to June 11). I figured the ships are going to sparkle with all the cleaning and sanitizing. I am so looking forward to the cruise, that I'm heartbroken at the thought of it cancelling. So much so that I jumped at the Lava Flows on the blog yesterday... Oh, yummy (and thanks for the suggestion!).

Very unfortunate. If only China had been more open about this virus early, the impact to the cruise industry might have been greatly diminished. Glad I made it down under and to New Zealand on a cruise when I did, right as this was beginning to explode.
