Second most annoying cruisers….

Recommended Posts

I think we all agree that chair hogs are the most annoying cruisers but following a close second are those who wander to the front of the theatre at all times during a show. This is a huge pet peeve of everyone I talk to, never mind how distracting it must be to performers. I don’t understand why they don’t close doors 15 minutes after showtime and just deny access to latecomers.

I just got off the Celebrity Beyond and had those kinds of troubles all cruise long.  I would get to show 30 to 40 minutes early to get the seats I wanted and at show time people would show up and ask if I would move to make room for them.  Some of the show in open floors they would come in at showtime and stand in front of our seats.  Drives me crazy.

The most annoying cruiser is the one who has no concept of space and think they're the only people around. Walking down the middle of a busy promenade and they just stop randomly.

Probably the same people that take their good ole time stowing their bags while boarding a plane.

Even worse, go thru a door or come to some stairways and stop.

Was present, first in line, for a show.  Got the front row center seats I wanted, along with a friend and their spouse and the rest of the front row filled.  Once seated spouses went to use the bathroom or get drinks.  I knew to throw a sweater over the seat back of my husbands seat  so those entering would know the seat was taken.  I told my friend to hold a cruise planner over her husbands seat back. 10 minutes before the show a woman comes through the front row demanding the seats because they are vacant and “you can’t hold seats”.  We all held our ground and she moved on.  The theater was PACKED, last I saw she was heading to the back, still carrying on about any vacant seat.  Well we had stood in line over an hour for seats! She shows up 20 minutes prior and thinks she’s getting front row?!
anyhow, loved my seats for We Will Rock You.  I’m going to miss Anthem but I have 3 more sailings on her, God willing, before she leaves Bayonne for good. You’ll find me in the front row of WWRY.

There is a solution to the suddenly stopping people. Overtake them and do it to them too. Like everybody else they will hate it. 😇

Like a brake check...pull in front then hit your brakes.  I like it.

The chair hogs are out in full force this week on Symphony. It’s really bad. I don’t bother with the formalities any longer, if I see unoccupied chairs with towels and there are no other available options then they are mine. I haven’t had any issues because these are hog chairs. It is important to note the staff does not have the resources to police this issue so this is the way I am handling it for my family.

If I really want a chair that’s obviously been ‘hogged’, I take my inspiration from a scene in The Godfather…”Leave the towel, take the chair”.
I’ll move the chair and leave the towel on the floor where the chair was (as long as it’s not a tripping hazard). When the hog eventually comes back to claim ‘their’ chair…there’s no one for them to argue with.

Other annoyances…people who stop and have meetings in choke points, especially as crowds are attempting to move along. Like after the show is over, or in elevator vestibules, or venue doorways, or the Windjammer, or the pool deck, or the casino floor, etc.

People who not only stop to talk in the middle of walkways…but those who also have the habit of ‘spreading their wings’. That’s when they put their hands on their waist and their elbows stick out, doubling their size!

People who come late to the show and slowly walk down the aisle and stop…scanning the crowd for a seat they deem acceptable…blocking the view while chattering back and forth. I really love when the entertainer, especially the comedians, shame them…”Can I get you anything? How about a watch?” or “I don’t come into your cabin at night and interrupt your performance!”

Those that have no conception of elevator etiquette.

But, these are just little annoyances when weighed against being on a cruise.

Happy sailing!😎

I was watching a YouTube video on Odyssey. The vlogger had a wired hand held microphone and was blocking off most of the ship corridor. Someone across from her was holding the camera. Everytime passengers would inevitably walk by, she would pause, and give them an annoyed look.

People paid thousands to be on that ship and should be able to walk wherever they want. The vlogger actually expected people to wait or find a detour during this lengthy video.🙄

I’ve wanted to do this several times but I hate confrontation and would worry that the family will come back and start screaming or something

or stop in the middle of, or right at the end a grocery store aisle, therefore blocking traffic in both directions.

Holding seat for a spouse is ok... holding a row of 7-8 seats 30 min prior is not acceptable. I will sit where I please. If you have a problem call a crew member.

This brings me to an argument I'm currently having on Facebook:

Windjammer: you walk in with your family, maybe 2-3 total... you throw a towel or a cell phone down on the table and you all go get your food.  Someone said they will move stuff off a table if they see it, no matter how long it's been there. I say you can save a table at the buffet, especially if you use something of value or personal because you KNOW they are coming back very soon, and not just holding it to go get the family from their rooms.  I like to walk around with my kid to see what he wants, but most likely I'll end up holding his plate or at least an additional plate for us to share, I don't want to wander around the room with plates of food trying to find a table.  Get in, grab a table, go get food- I think that's more than acceptable.

Or when a group of 3-5 people walk side by side going in one direction taking up the entire walkway with no consideration of people walking the other way. (This is a personal pet peeve of mine everywhere, not just on cruise ships)

I would have circled that deck and gone through the same hallway repeatedly. Gotta get those steps in somehow, so why not have fun messing with an entitled individual.

I have been on cruises where they close the doors at showtime and if you are late you do not get in. You can leave once it starts but no reentry. I think that would be fine by me if they all instituted that rule.

Do you remember which ship this was on? I have never seen it happen and I have been on many cruises across many lines.

I feel the WJ is a totally different situation. Someone is not going to hog a table for the day (I hope). I think it makes sense to claim a table there while you go get food.

No doubt there are all kinds of pet peeves ....

Kids handling various food items in the buffet line without putting it on their plate.

People trying to get on the elevator before letting anyone off.

Littering, anywhere, including onboard a ship.

The list is long and the patience short.

Another one…… People who decide to take a photo across a very busy walkway. Like the sun deck during sail away, or an elevator vestibule, or half a promenade. Expecting people to wait. Many do because it’s courteous and usually only takes a second or two.
But the annoying ones are those that don’t snap a quick photo…but actually take so much time posing their photo that it would be quicker if they just did a painting!🤪🎨

Had this on my last cruise.  As a solo who can’t have someone babysit a seat for me I usually fill my Yeti and place it down along with my silverware and forage for the 3 things I eat.  This one cruise I grabbed food first…what was I thinking? Placed the food at a high top shared table and put down my silverware. Unfortunately the coffee dispenser near my seat was empty so I had to cross the dining room to the other side to fill my Yeti. By the time I returned my food  plate was pushed away and a father/ daughter were seated there.  He asked if he should move….boy did I want to say yes but who kicks out an 8 year old?! Then he proceeds to point out an empty chair at a table for 4 that had 2 people seated.  I walked elsewhere, placed my yeti and silverware and got fresh food.  I wonder what he told the kid when they sat down?

So here's my most recent annoyance.  Wife is not feeling totally well, so we decide to order room service that evening.  While watching TV, we decide we'd like drinks.  I go to the Trellis Bar and use the stairs to carry two of them back to the cabin.  Teens (pre-teens?) are playing "who can get there first?", the ones on the elevator or the ones running full-speed-ahead down the stairs.  I came close to tossing a drink on anyone who caused me to lose those things before I got to the room.  It very nearly happened.  There is a reason we avoid the kid zone on a ship and I really don't care to see the out-of-control ones in the evening either.

Probably something like "there's just one person here, it's fine they can share" basically deciding for you that you wanted strangers next to you or had no other companions (children, friends joining later etc).

And then probably doubled down after you walked away with something like "well see now we get the whole thing anyway" OR some shade to you like "even you [to 8-yr old] know it's nice to share. That person is just angry" because people like that always think they've made the right choice and others are being unfair to be angered by their decisions.

They took the 2 seats that were at the high tabletop, one of which had my plate and silverware.    Then the father directed me to a table of 4 that held 2 people.    Either the kid sat down not knowing what a plate of fresh food and wrapped utensils signified-or the dad felt it was ok to push it aside.  Even if the kid made a mistake dad should have realized the error.  Definitely not worth a confrontation.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Yes, parents should maintain a watch over their kids. A lot of parents do let their kids run free too much and those people irritate me as well. However, if you don't want to be around kids being kids, and you're going to get upset every time a child is remotely mischievous or wild, Royal Caribbean is not the cruise line for you.

Celebrity and Virgin have fantastic brand new ships where you can enjoy your cruise without kids.
