Without it, like you no spiked coffee, and overall, will just get a drink with dinner and sometimes an after dinner and mid day drink. After all a drink is really a drink so simplicity is all that matters. Water is free and good. So is tea and coffee. And with any kind of start up I am thinking it may be best to start with free options for now. Just being down to earth of course and my personal thoughts. Zacharius
Hitting this thread late, but I'm gonna hit it hard...like a cruise. Food and beverage are huge parts of my vacation, so I generally won't cruise without a drink package since we try to get cruises that are a good mix of ports and sea days. I like to wake up in the morning, grab a coffee, and go up top to enjoy the fresh air. That's port days or sea days. Port days - depending on what we're doing, may or may not have drinks during the day. Sea days - usually wait until after lunch and then start hitting it. Nothing crazy - maybe a few drinks before dinner if I am sitting by the pool. Drink or two with dinner. Couple of drinks after dinner, either at a bar or (ideally) back on my balcony. Or up top watching a movie on the big screen. My drinks are usually either wine or something like a martini/G&T. I'll do a sweet drink here or there like a pina colada or tropical old fashioned, but not too often because it just gets too sweet. Never really do beer because the choices are always horrible, and it gets too filling - only time I have used my drink package on a beer is when I sprained my thumb getting in to the pool and used a Coors Light metal bottle as an ice pack (and, well, might as well drink your ice pack!) I almost always get a bottle of water with each drink, because hydration is key...glass of water for every drink = no hangover, and if nothing else, we stock some bottles for port excursions. Jill
Typical Caribbean cruise with drink package: mimosa with breakfast. If it’s a sea day, first pool drink around 11. Multiple throughout the day. Drink before dinner, 1 or 2 at dinner, 1 or 2 after dinner/during show. Minimum 5 bottles of water. We get our money’s worth! If I want to do the "active" stuff like Sky Pad, Flow Rider, Zip Line, etc (I may be a grandma, but age is just a number!), then I don't have my first beverage until I'm done with those things (an injury would definitely put a damper on the vacation!). Typically, something like this: 8:00...escape the snoring log of a husband and stumble down to the Cafe Promenade for a specialty hot tea (life is tough for those of us who don't drink coffee). Get a bottle of water or 2 for good measure 8:30...first breakfast...maybe with a mimosa and another bottle of water 9:00...morning run (gotta burn off all the dessert and drinks!) followed by another bottle of water 10:00...second breakfast when my husband finally emerges. Definitely a mimosa here The rest of the day depends on what I'm doing...if we're hitting up the trivia (don't challenge me at 80s music trivia...I'll win), then it's time to start looking at the specialty drink menus in whatever venue we're in. Fallback drink is a Dark & Stormy. On Mariner, we loved to camp out in the Bamboo Room and try the different rums! 12:30~ish...time for lunch and more water After lunch...pool deck and whatever tiki drinks the very sweet cabana boy will bring me. Along with water. All the water We do late seating dinner, and I usually have a glass or 2 of wine with that. After dinner...time to hit whatever entertainment and a nightcap. We do first and second breakfast too! First breakfast is coffee, juice and bagels delivered to cabin. We spike the juice with champagne. Second breakfast is either at Johnny Rockets or MDR. We like a cooked to order. Mimosa there too! Ogilthorpe, krhardy and WannaCruise 2

dr martini
Great topic for times like these! I'm a proud German/Irish catholic, I've always gotten DBP and hey, I'm not driving the ship. Day 1-3ish are a lot boozier than days after but here we go- 8-9AM -order a few orange juices with the bagels/danishes and coffee room service. Mix the champagne I brought onboard (as my two bottles of wine) with the OJ and enjoy on the balcony 10-11am- Bloody mary from pool bar or the new bar by the windjammer (great addition) Noon-3p Sea day couple beers by the pool, maybe a fun cocktail like mai tai or mojito, if on diving/snorkeling excursion most of them provide a local beer like Carib or good old cheap and easy rum punch Then either back to the room and nap or in a good shady deck chair spot, then get ready for dinner. 5-6pm - After cleaning up for dinner grab a bourbon old fashioned or some other classy cocktail at Schooner or somewhere else on the lower decks/around promenade type area Red wine with dinner, Regular coffee with dessert, after dinner Jameson/ginger or another mojito somewhere with live music. Later in the cruise....it's just the beers around the pool in the afternoon and maybe the wine with dinner or the cleaned up cocktail. The speed and quantity of consumption definitely taper off as the week goes on. Man I miss cruising. WannaCruise and Ogilthorpe

rjac
For me, on cruise days bloodies by the pool before lunch; depending on what and where we are having lunch beer or water; afternoon by the pool drink of the day and/or beer; wine at dinner; bourbon (Buffalo Trace or Basil Hayden) straight or with one ice cube after dinner. On port days I always take four bottles of water in my small backpack (not my idea, but this is something she who must be obeyed demands.....and you know how that goes, a happy wife a happy life. My planner says that both adults adults sharing a stateroom must purchase the DBP...but my husband doesn't drink and I cannot drink enough for both of us to justify the DBP. I like the idea of not having to count my drinks to stay on budget without the DBP but also don't want to spend the money for him to not use it at all. It is a catch 22 - and is there a work around?? This is correct. I've done this multiple times when purchasing the DBP for myself, as my wife doesn't drink. Just call the number listed at the bottom of any Cruise Planner page, tell them the situation, and they'll let you buy the DBP at the current rate while your husband buys the Refreshment Package. Do note this is the only option they will offer in this case. If your husband doesn't even want that and he's content with whatever is free on board, then you'll have to just buy your drinks a la carte. But in this case, you can buy a Refreshment Package just for yourself, so that it's only the alcoholic beverages that will be bought a la carte and not everything you drink on board. At $2 a pop, bottled water adds up fast. TriToCruise

Yes, we do this every time. I get the Deluxe and Hubby gets the Refreshment. But you have to call them. You cannot do this online. Or if you have kids with you, then you can separate you and your husband and book connecting cabins like @ericfromripp suggested.
