CannukCruiser
there are load weight systems to bypass hall calls so that they don't pickup more people , maybe one that answered had less people in it .

Traveling Mike
I agree that a designer has some humor: I noticed the lights are Red and Green. Green is going up and Red is going down. Does that have something to do with Heaven and Hell? I do not know about the rest of RCL ships, but I had an issue going the bathroom on the Symphony with an old lady watching me every time. ckruetze
Nothing special for ships. Coming up with a perfect elevator system is something office buildings, hotels and really anything big has struggled with since the invention of elevators. There are a lot of tactics for example penalise short journeys (e.g. if there 18 floors anything above 15 wanting to go up will have to wait) or priorities certain destinations (going to the casino floor takes priority over going to the pool floor) or even distributions of calls per hour or ... From my none scientific observations the ones where you have to choose the destination before you get on the elevator usually works the best. It allows the computer to group target floors and minimise stops. It also helps people think of where they want to go before getting on. ckruetze
I have to correct myself. The best elevators are the ones where you have an overwrite key. Neesa, WAAAYTOOO and Mark_A 1
RCIfan1912
It's why I take the stairs just about 99.9% of the time. The elevators on cruises are annoying number 1, and extra calories burned number 2. The most rude passengers I encounter on a cruise is typically around the elevators. My rule of thumb has always been: Stairs down are always an option, stairs up 2 decks are an option, stairs up 3 decks or more will depend on my mood, destination and time available. Save the elevators for those who need them. Also allows me to indulge more at the bars and restaurants...lol BowTieBrigade, VirtKitty, Neesa and 3 others 5

Really? Those same people will circle the parking lot at the fitness club to find a space close to the door rather than parking at the far side of the lot (even in beautiful weather), then go inside and walk on a treadmill. ckruetze, BrianB, USCG Teacher and 2 others 2
Va4fam
We are also "take the stairs" people and like to book on decks 7-10 so we never have to go up or down more than a few levels. On our Empress trip in 2020, we didn't use the elevators the entire week.
drjohn4
If you push the button every 3 seconds it will come faster. Or maybe we need to bring back elevator operators. Really? I’m by no means healthy but I do try to get to the gym to do my elliptical. I’m lucky if I make it there 3 of 7 days, but pack for 7…so I hope it counts! Lol when I leave the gym I’ll take the elevator in whichever direction I need, as many floors (even 1) in either direction. I’ve a bad knee that gets greatly aggravated by stairs, but not typically by elliptical machines. Please don’t judge/confuse my often disheveled, sweaty appearance for one of those real fitness people who are fully committed and spend more than 30 minutes in the gym and actually enjoy it. The elevator is what stands between me and being laid out at the bottom of a staircase. rjweber3 and BrianB 1

not easy being green
Few years ago we traveled with my dad and he could not do stairs, after observing for a bit we realized that sometimes you might need to go up to go down and down to go up (especially after shows and or when leaving a port). JBC
There is nothing worse than someone cramming on to an already packed elevator, only to then take it for 1 floor. I'm talking a healthy looking person with no visible mobility issues. If you are a truly able bodied person, and you take the elevator up or down 1 or 2 levels, then you deserve the instant karma of being run over by someone in a rogue scooter! ellcee
I hate elevators with all of my being, I’m claustrophobic and when people pack in I get super anxious. I take stairs when I can going down but have a knee issue that isn’t visible so there are times I may take the elevator for a few floors. We have no idea what people are going through. If someone has asthma they may choose an elevator for a floor. Nicci, WAAAYTOOO, LJay0301 and 1 other 3

Completely agree - you can't tell by looking what conditions an individual may have. My wife would love to take the stairs more often than she does, but plantar fasciitis makes it very difficult to do more than one floor via the stairs (and even one as it gets later in the day/week). It's not unusual for us to walk to the elevator/stairs area together, separate (her to the elevator, me to the stairs), and meet at our destination deck.
