PG Cruiser 1,455 Report post Posted October 16 If the unthinkable happened to this woman, her family would hire a lawyer to ask, "Why would there be an unsecured area on a balcony where people can fall off?" Why would you have the danger without any warning, sign, or notice?” (I'm looking at you, Mr Winkleman) Then people who know nothing about cruising would rant all over social media demanding Royal to put up barriers on open decks and balconies! The family would post pictures of her hanging from monkey bars saying how much she loved doing it. 4 4 1 1 CoupleOfCruisers, Fuzzywuzzy, coneyraven and 7 others reacted to this
monctonguy 1,190 Report post Posted October 16 Time to ban balcony's as they are too dangerous...... Seems like a logical next step based on todays mentality....... 1 1 NEbluebird and coneyraven reacted to this
twangster 17,732 Report post Posted October 16 The scale of the picture still seems off to me. The distance between the railing and the next deck above isn't the height of a normal grown adult, male or female. 1 Baked Alaska reacted to this
CruisinUpinLife 98 Report post Posted October 16 I can only wonder why she thought to do this....why put yourself in any potential position to more easily get hurt? I wouldn't even want to attempt this. Unfortunately @PG Cruiser I think you are right....if something bad had happened we'd have people saying that balconies need to be enclosed in some way....which is silliness! whitsmom 258 Report post Posted October 16 Where she is standing there is a ledge and there is none above her or below her. That is a doctored picture!
AshleyDillo 2,909 Report post Posted October 16 5 minutes ago, whitsmom said: Where she is standing there is a ledge and there is none above her or below her. That is a doctored picture! She is on the balcony railing. The white "wall" are just the opaque balcony dividers. The quality of the photo and zooming in makes it appear as though she is standing on a lip on the other of her balcony.

They take advantage of a concept called perspective. That's not the case in the balcony photo. In the balcony photo the person is standing on the railing with another foot of clearance between her head and the ceiling. Seems off to me.
CGTLH 2,455 Report post Posted October 16 Looking at the photo I get the impression she might be standing on a table or maybe a foot rest. Seems what would be her right side at the railing is a person's head/face.

Shari 57 Report post Posted October 16 This is not fake news. The person first posted on FB and was told to report her. He showed the picture to RCCL staff and they figured out which cabin she was in. They confronted her and then she was ordered to stay in her cabin until the next port. She was escorted off of the Allure in Nassau Bahamas this morning and is permanently banned from any RCL (corporate wide) ship. 3 2 carlosalonsor, ChrisK2793, CoupleOfCruisers and 2 others reacted to this
YOLO 249 Report post Posted October 16 There are so many unknowns here: the exact position of the camera taking the photo, the distance and angle to the subject (perspective as @twangster points out), the camera lens magnification, photo date, photo edits, etc. Without knowing these things the photo could in fact be real or not. Without knowing we are all just guessing. The photo could have been taken years ago. Who would ever know...

tonyfsu21 579 Report post Posted October 16 Rear of the ship and one floor above the lifeboat seems like the location based on orientation. The steel formed into a cylinder can be seen in the pic and is not as pronounced anywhere else on the ship as far as I can tell. Something is off with the photo. It's a corner location in those staterooms/balconies that stick out on the side of the ship. The cylinder looking thing below her are actually a row of balcony dividers. EDIT: I contacted the guy who (allegedly) took the picture. He said he was on the Starboard side, taking the picture from the Aft "hump". The woman was on the Forward "hump"

Does that seem right?
