They've secured lines of credit in the billions. Based on past results those won't take long to pay off once things get back to normal. Life will get back to normal. Maybe not in 2020 but by 2025 this will all be a distant memory. RCCL will be fine. Carnival will be fine. Beyond that is anyone's guess.8 points

A pirate walked into a seaside tavern and asked for a drink. The bartender, turned away from the bar when the buccaneer walked in, pours the drink, but nearly drops it when he notices the sailor has a giant ship's wheel stuck to the front of his pants. "Uh, capn'," the bartender says, "I hope you don't mind me askin', but what's with that-thar wheel?" "Arrr...this thing?" The pirate asks. "|t drives me nuts."6 points

Holding to hope that cruising resumes August 2, so I don't miss my sailing. If that happens, I'll very much be looking forward to trying beef wellington for the first time, trying out Celebrity for the first time, and having every port in the itinerary being a first-time visit.5 points

Current CAS policy is D+ and P can be upgraded. That was before RoyalUP but technically CAS policy hasn't changed. I've never benefited from such an upgrade, maybe now I'll have a chance, assuming RoyalUp doesn't scoop up all upgrades. Low bidding RoyalUp may be sound practice going forward.4 points

I've honestly given up arguing with people about it. I'll say my point, to a point, but a lot of those who claim how you're doomed to be in a sardine can with thousands of people and guaranteed to get norovirus either let the media fear them, or aren't big cruise fans anyway. I personally figure my chances of getting sick on a cruise ship or on land is about the same. Either I come in contact with some virus or I don't. Either my body puts up a good fight or it doesn't. I don't judge you and don't care if you judge me. :)4 points -

While I agree that I don't want my tax dollars and future debt of the country inflated to bailout non-US companies, the refusal to offer medical aid to a ship is another matter. For centuries ships of many flags have sailed the seas. Merchant vessels have long sought medical assistance when passengers or crew become ill. The long standing tradition has been to offer medical assistance regardless of the flag on the vessel. It goes to show just how desperate the situation is in America when they have to refuse to offer medical assistance for ship crew or passengers. That is particular eye-opening when there are U.S. citizens involved. At the state level it was blocked to ensure limited resources were reserved for state residents then at the local level when it became apparent that Florida residents were on board, local counties interceded to ensure local resources were reserved for local county residents. Desperate times indeed. The U.S. wasn't alone in refusing medical assistance. Many countries along the ship's route did the same. Right or wrong isn't important. The fact that Florida is so ill prepared is eye opening. Not that Florida is the only state not prepared for this so that isn't important either. The important takeaway during this extreme medical situation is - do not venture far from home. I can't afford to find myself vacationing somewhere where I might be turned away from a hospital in my hour of need because I'm not a resident of that state. Sadly since this won't be over until a vaccine is available I'll have to cancel roughly a dozen Florida based cruises. I can't afford to find myself having a non-virus emergency medical need only to be told that since I am not a Floridian I will be turned away in my hour of need. I don't blame Florida for this, few states are truly prepared for this but the result is the same - don't venture from my home state to ensure access to medical resources. Here's hoping by 2022 or 2023 we can return to a place we can travel beyond state lines. Until then it's looking like staying close to home is the smart play.4 points

I long to go back to CocoCay! And looking forward to enjoying our first ever ocean view balcony on Indy (hopefully in August!) We've only done interior rooms, without a view, so we're excited to enjoy what everyone talks about- coffee on the balcony in the morning, and kraken and coke on the balcony in the eve.3 points

Also keep in mind that Royal offices are closed. Employees are working from home like the rest of us. They aren't used to that and every employee is dealing with children home from school, grocery store or toilet paper challenges and likely family or friends infected with COVID-19 just like the rest of us are dealing with this.3 points

Got to say, I'm not remotely confident that cruise lines will "get back to normal" and return to "past results" any time soon. By 2025? Maybe. But how does RCI fill its *growing* capacity in 2020? 2021? First-time cruisers aren't going to be giving cruising a try any time soon, and even diehards can only afford so many cruises a year. I could see them selling off ships (assuming anyone would buy them).2 points -

All this talk about ships being flagged here or there is important. But there are many facets of this story. Until today there were two ships that still had passengers and crew on them, and they were in need. Thankfully, finally they have docked in Ft. Lauderdale. Here's another part of the story: I read someplace today that RCCL and Carnival have offered idle ships to US cities in this time of need. The ships have been cleaned front to back and top to bottom. In an emergency, we need to help each other. I for one, am glad both of the things mentioned above have happened. We are at our best when we give our last dollar. My life has been such, that I've been on both sides of this equation. We can sort out the need to reflag these ships and place blame after lives are saved. Off topic a bit, but not really: I am reminded of the story of Beck Weathers. He was a very rich very well connected doctor from Dallas, TX. He was high on Mt. Everest on May 10, 1996 when a storm struck. Many people died that day and many more lives hung in the balance including Beck's. He would need to evacuated by helicopter from above the ice fall, an altitude above 20,000 feet. It had never been done before and if anyone ever dared try it there is no way that pilot would temp fate a 2nd time. Word got to his wife in TX and all the right calls were made. Sure enough a pilot was found who dared to try it in his completely stripped down copter. 1 chance and 1 live would be saved of the dozen or so who needed to be saved. But, Beck was connected. Sure enough the pilot landed that copter on the makeshift helipad and just as Beck was prepared to be loaded, word came that a sherpa was sicker than him. Swelling on the brain and would be dead within the hour if he didn't get to lower altitude. Imagine a copter at full throttle but barely able to get 2 or 3 feet off the ground in the thin air and then dropping almost out of control until it finally felt the bite of denser air below. In the end, it was Beck Weathers who made the call. A man he never met would be given the helicopter that was sent for him. If there wasn't enough heroism that day, somehow the pilot, whose name I don't recall, found the courage to come up the icefall a second time to take Beck to safety. I haven't read the book in 10 years, so some of the details may be a little fuzzy. But that is a true story and a lesson for us all.2 points

You do not have the option to pay after the final payment date and then get an FCC. They will not extend the final payment date. You certainly can choose to Cancel With Confidence, in which case an FCC will be awarded for your down payment. To be honest, I’m not sure exactly what would happen if you just fail to make final payment. My guess is that you would receive a full refund of your down payment to your CC but I’m really not sure. If you want an FCC for the full amount of your cruise, you would need to make final payment. If you pay the full balance on time and then Royal cancels the cruise, you would be entitled to either a full refund of all costs or a 125% FCC, whichever you choose.2 points

The term "floating petri dish" can kiss my big butt. I'm so tired of people judging cruising and the cruise industry. I'm pretty dang sure that 90% of these so-called health experts have never even been on a cruise, and if they did, it was probably the tugboat line.2 points
