atseau Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 Now that RCCL has confirmed a return to Labadee I just wanted to get some thoughts, opinions on this subject. I would love to return but I have mixed feelings Is it safer now than when the shut down started? Quote
Matt Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 Royal Caribbean hasn't confirmed a return to Labadee. The reports you're seeing online are based on a social media post by Royal, but I believe that's the social media team reporting they've only cancelled visits to Labadee through September. Quote
smokeybandit Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 Labadee was never unsafe. As has been the case for years in Haiti, Port Au Prince is a mess, but is very far away from Labadee. Now you have Kenyan and Jamaican police forces helping out and the US is trying to get a UN task force sent there, too. RCIfan1912, ScottD, Srp431 and 1 other 4 Quote
jarestel Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 We are scheduled to visit Labadee on Independence of the Seas in October. Though I'm looking forward to visiting Labadee (watched Matt's tour on youTube), I'd be less than truthful if I said I had no second thoughts. But at the end of the day, I trust Royal Caribbean wouldn't put guests in an unsafe situation, so if Independence of the Seas Labadee stop doesn't get cancelled we'll be there! Quote
Zacharius Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 I can't imagine Royal Caribbean's insurers are anywhere close to letting them send a ship and thousands of people back to Labadee. I imagine that will be the biggest guiding factor in any decision. Quote
atseau Posted September 13 Author Report Posted September 13 Ah Thank you, I read on another site that October 8 Royal confirmed a return to Labadee. I guess it was to good to be true. Quote

Please note that itineraries do change as the company monitors and assess the security situation in Haiti and work on restoring operations. Don't be surprised if this itinerary is altered. Quote
Biaggio Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 If they stop there, I’ll pass and stay on the ship. Same with Mexico, although many of the bad operators might be here in The US. Pooch and LTR 2 Quote
Srp431 Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 We're scheduled to visiting in December to Labadee, we also stay on board, the food isn't worth the effort and the vendors (don't want to deal with). Give me another sea day or CocoCay. Biaggio 1 Quote

Southern Dan Posted September 13 Report Posted September 13 I'm going to opt for a free beach day at Labadee instead of paying for an excursion in Nassau. Between Coco Cay and Labadee I will get my beach fix in on our seven night sailing. I will be staying on the boat when we stop at Falmouth most likely. atseau and LTR 2 Quote

Floski Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 Labadee is one of the best beaches in the Caribbean where you can just relax and enjoy the (relative) quiet. I love it there. WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote

I would say the biggest safety concern at Labadee is cutting a foot on those small shells at the beach. Labadee is safe, the food is still going to be sub par and the beach bar service is going to be slow. Nothing will change. Quote

TXcruiser33 Posted September 14 Report Posted September 14 We're scheduled to be there Oct 9th on Freedom (2nd ship to port, another ship is stopping there on the 8th). I honestly have zero concern. I'm sure RC won't stop if they have any concerns, just like many ports we all go every year..... I'm very happy for the locals who live in the little village across from Labadee who count on us for employment, food, etc. I remember talking to someone who lives over there (you can see it from our beautiful beach!) and he said many of work at Labadee, some times whole families. And, they are very isolated - i think the only way they can access their town is via boat (i think that's what i remember?!) so without the tourists they are out of work. I bet they're excited to see us return! Quote
cruisellama Posted September 15 Report Posted September 15 IMO - that should be the Celebrity stop and leave PDCC to RCL ships. Quote

I've shared PDCC with X several times now, arriving to PDCC on both brands several times now. Way better than Bimini. I don't understand why one or the other has to be exclusive to a brand. By sharing there are more ports of call for both lines to offer. What am I missing? WAAAYTOOO, PPPJJ-GCVAB, Snotarni and 1 other 4 Quote

I was looking at it from a O,I +X class visit to keep numbers reasonable. Pretty clear, overall corporation is trying to grow kid (family numbers) on X , then SS becomes stays adult only line. I've enjoyed both stops, always thought Labadee was a more quiet option. Didn't realize that an "opinion" would be so objectionable. Quote

I know some X cruisers who were upset when X announced they would visit CocoCay. How dare they send us to that place. That was a sentiment i didn't understand, like X was luxury in their mind when it's clearly not. It seemed kinda snooty to me. SilverSea I could understand, but X isn't luxury at all, merely upscale. bobroo Posted September 16 Report Posted September 16 Until we hear that the per passenger tax has dramatically increased for stops to Labadee and therefore booked passengers gotta cough up more money; that's when I will know that travel to Labadee will resume. Until then, I just have my fingers crossed that Royal somehow/someway retains the property. Quote

JoeW1957 Posted October 4 Report Posted October 4 Im booked on the the Adventure Oct 5th first ship returning to Labadee. The US State Dept has issued a 4th level warning DO NOT TRAVEL Renewed on Sept 26th. I am begging RCL to revise their itinerary and skip Labadee. This is ridiculous. How can a couple of no armed security guards protect against a riotous armed insurgency that overthrew their government and that HATES tourists??? Kidnapping and theft are the 2 major threats as well as murder. RCL stay away from Haiti! Its not safe. I do not plan on leaving the ship. Carlos A. 1 Quote
