  1. We were on Explorer last month, and i agree the suite lounge was pretty sad (interior, no windows) BUT since it was right down the stairs from our cabin it came in handy all week!!! I loved running over there for coffee and a pastry early morning, then stopping in for a drink and snack on our way back to the cabin late afternoon! I did use it more than usual just because it was so convenient!
  2. It's difficult to give advise on this subject because everybody is different and their idea of a great day is different!! Having kids with you adds another factor to your decision, obviously, because you don't want tired, cranky kids with you!! My opinion is this: a Med cruise is always port intensive and often exhausting. But, you have a chance to explore several places that you've never been before and who knows when you'll be back?? So, for me, i try to do something at every port, then spend the sea days exploring the ship. To really see some of these ports it does require a long day as the sights can be far away from the port. We just returned from a Greece/Croatia cruise and took our 2 adult sons and their wives (who had never cruised AND never been to Europe!) My hubby and I were in charge of making all the plans, so after a lot of research we chose different types of activities in each port so nobody would get bored or tired of too much of the same thing. With that in mind, in Split we chose a 1/2 day private speed boat tour out to the Blue lagoon for swimming and snorkling. That was the right decision for this group! They all loved having a "beach day" and it broke up the other history-intense tour days. If my husband and I had been travelling alone we probably wouldn't have done this, but it really was a great day and i'm glad we did! We have never stayed on a ship while in port, a couple of times we got off and walked around, had lunch and got back on. But i know people do it and some love the empty ship! I just hate to pass thru somewhere and not at least get off! Also, i almost always book a private excursion or a DIY day, we rarely book cruise excursions (because they're more expensive, more crowded, and often don't maximize all the time you have in port). But that's just us. Have fun planning and enjoy your cruise!
  3. We've been really lucky with our RU bids! We start with a "free" cruise offer from the casino usually a balcony or jr. suite. Then we submit offers to several suites, and so far i think we've won every time. I say "won" because of course this makes our free cabin not free at all?!? But, we're very happy to pay a little to cruise in a beautiful suite. So far, we've won RU bids for a crown loft (twice), and royal crown loft (once), an owners suite (once) and grand suites (twice). I think our bids are usually in the mid'range.....
  4. Yes, this is true, although this is the definition of drug smuggling, isn't it....?!? So LOTS of people try it, and some get caught!
  5. My experience with CK so far has been Symphony and Odyssey. We loved it on Symphony, ate several meals there and most breakfasts, and it was always busy so we did have to make dinner reservations. On our recent Odyssey cruise, CK was empty?! I think it's not in a great location (outside of Windjammer) behind solid doors, so it's just not inviting to walk up to, imo. Whereas on Symphony, it's light and bright, and on the same deck as many of the suites, and includes the Diamond Lounge space. It was just much more inviting. We'll be on Allure next week in a crown loft suite, so i'm sure we'll be dining at CK several times and i'm assuming i'll like it as much as i did on Symphony!
  6. We're 3 for 3 on our last 3 cruises!!! We usually are booked in either a junior or grand suite comped from the casino (i know, i know), then turn in bids for most of the suite categories that we like. usually at minimum or slightly higher than minimum. We just got RU for the Allure in 2 weeks, from a grand suite to a crown loft suite! Super excited! Our first time on Allure, 3rd time in a CLS. On Odyssey, our RU got us in the Grand Loft Suite (i think that's what it's called?!?) which was our first Star Class experience. Loved that as well!!!
  7. There are several threads about this if you look thru for them. RC has buses to shuttle passengers from the airport to the port, OR from the city center in Venice to the port. It's impossible to find this info on the website, but if you call RC you can book it that way. Or, if you used a travel agent you'll have to have them book it for you. I believe it's about $70 per person one way
  8. well, i was confused....i think you're correct. I would still choose the crown loft suite over the grand!
  9. Absolutely book the Crown loft suite every time! 2 bathrooms plus it's Sky Class, so access to CK, suite lounge, etc. The grand suite is basically a larger cabin than the regular balcony; it's nice, but it doesn't include Sky class amenities. FYI, i assume that's correct on Wonder (which i haven't sailed on) but this is the case on Symphony, Odyssey and Allure....
  10. We are sailing on Explorer in September, flying in to Venice and out of Bologna. We were able to book RC transport (bus) from Venice train station to the port, then from the port to Bologna airport. I think it's about $70 per person per leg....Seems pretty reasonably priced!
  11. I can speak from experience on this subject as on a recent cruise (Symphony out of Miami) i somehow FORGOT our passports?!? I still shake my head at that but i did. 20 cruises under my belt but brain farts can and do happen to us all i guess?!? Didn't realize it until we were literally stepping out of the Uber car in front of the terminal. Of course, i panicked but thought surely we'd get on since we had copies of passports in our phones, plus global entry cards, plus valid drivers licenses. Nope was the firm answer. You either have to have the ORIGINAL passport OR a copy of your official birth certificate. Well.....we didn't have copies of our birth certificates....but thankfully were able to contact someone near home who went in to our house, located our bc's, took photos of them and sent those to us. And RC accepted those so onboard we went! I think you'll be fine, just be sure you have those birth certificates!
  12. Is Zone Zero the virtual reality experience? We did this on our Odyssey cruise in January and had a blast! No problems for me and hubby with our equipment....but i can see how it might be problematic for RCCL as far as a profitable venue. It took a long time for the 4 of us to go thru, so at that rate they can't handle many people a day....
  13. DH and I did a 9 (or 10?) night southern caribbean cruise last year on Vision and really loved the ship. We had a great cruise (but we always do!) and thought the staff and service were great. Have a wonderful time!
  14. Thanks to everybody for this helpful info! We just booked a September cruise out of Ravenna so i'm busy looking into details and couldn't figure out how to get info on the bus shuttle, here it is!!
