Guy Lebrun Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 My wife and I recently completed a cruise on the Odyssey of the Seas. We have done over 20 cruises with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess, Norwegian and Disney in the last 20 years. Before our last cruise, I read the rules published by Royal Caribbean. While the cruise rules prohibit confrontation with other passengers, I wish it would include a code of conduit for passengers about annoying behaviour. For examples many passengers don’t know or care how their behaviour affect other passengers. Here is a list of annoying behaviour: - Talking and laughing loud in restaurants, in the elevators and on buses during excursions - Blocking the hall ways as a group - cutting into lines waiting for restaurants or a show - talking loud on cell phone in public areas or on buses - talking loud during a show in The Royal theatre - Dropping food on the floor in a restaurant and not letting staff know about it - screaming in the library in a card game while the Capitaine corner presentation was on near by The music played during shows at the Royal theatre was way too loud. As a senior person I resent loud music and music such as rap played for teenagers and young adults. As the majority of people on this cruise were not teenagers or young adults, the music should have been more to our tastes. Quote
happy cruisers 2 Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 Annoying behavior can be found almost anywhere. I learned many years ago, though, that my standards may not be other people's standards. If I choose to be, I could be annoyed almost every day by someone -- on the road, in the grocery store, in my neighborhood, wherever.... When I see annoying behavior I try my best to not let it adversely affect my day. If necessary, I will tactfully say something though. It's unfortunate, but I doubt that a Code of Conduct would change the kind of individual behavior you've described. I hope that in the grand scope of things you found your recent cruise to be enjoyable. PPPJJ-GCVAB, Lighthouse 30, Neesa and 4 others 6 1 Quote
RockerDom31 Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 If anyone is interested, there is a Code of Conduct and here is the link to it - https://www.royalcaribbean.com/guest-terms/guest-health-safety-and-conduct-policy/english/ If something is truly a nuisance or presents a danger, you have every right to inform a crew member. Me? Policing other people or caring what they do is literally the last thing I want to do on a cruise (unless of course, they are a danger to themselves or others. Then, yes, I will speak up). tjcruisers Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 Definitely seems like ChatGPT or something like that (somebody stirring the pot). Sorry but I'm in my 50's and don't like rap either, but I don't think I've ever heard rap on any ship I've been on yet. The music by the pool is geared towards the younger crowd, but throughout the ship the vast majority seems to music that came out when I was in elementary school. They literally have a 70 disco night party and a 80's night. Same goes with talking on a cell phone, not sure I've ever seen anybody talk on their phone on a ship (you'd have one heck of a phonebill) KJ777 1 Quote

fireclan Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 Sometimes people just want to vent about their negative cruise or travel experience. Those issues mentioned may not bother me, but it annoyed the OP enough to find an outlet for his disappointment with his recent cruise. I really don't believe he was looking for suggestions, answers, or a discussion, just somewhere to let someone know how he/she was feeling. And maybe thinking, as many have previously, that these posts somehow get read by Royal Caribbean. teddy and ChessE4 2 Quote

Don't need to use the cell service. I was getting election spam calls during the week in airplane mode. Thankfully, I don't think many people know this yet. Next time you get or make a call when connected to WiFi look at the call status, most likely the call is going over wifi even if you are not in airplane mode (if WiFi calling is enabled, which I believe by default it is). tonyfsu21 Posted November 6, 2023 Report Posted November 6, 2023 The OP code of “conduit” does not take into consideration that this is the United States of America and we are as free of a country as you can possibly be. I believe the OP is mistaking a Royal Caribbean cruise vacation for a penal colony. Ryan79 1 Quote

happy cruisers 2 Posted November 7, 2023 Report Posted November 7, 2023 On our recent cruise on Allure a man and lady seemed to always have breakfast at Coastal Kitchen and he spent LOTS of time on his cell phone, even while eating, while his wife or partner sat there with him. I thought to myself, WOW, he must be someone important or have very important business to conduct while on their cruise. Maybe he's doing deals with his broker? Maybe he's running a business? Whatever. We found it odd that this had to be done while he ate breakfast, but I sure didn't let it affect my enjoyment of our cruise. At least he wasn't loud, and we were not close enough to hear the conversations. Not something I would have done or wanted multiple people doing though. KJ777 and ScottD 2 Quote

Some people apparently need to be connected at all times. That’s not to say that this person enjoyed it, but if you are on vacation and talking business during breakfast then I have to imagine it needed to be done. My wife is on call 24/7/365 and her clients don’t care if she’s on a vacation or eating breakfast in the suite dining venue on Allure. Having owned a couple of businesses and being in a leadership role for others, I have learned that "vacation" at times just means "working from exotic locations". While I am able to mostly disconnect from the day-to-day, I still find myself having to handle administrative tasks while on vacation. Some of these are impactful to my employees, must happen on a fixed calendar schedule, and must be done on a specific date, such as communicating results from performance reviews, approvals of time off, etc. I just bake in time each morning to check and handle these tasks while on vacation. I do have to put on my blinders though and keep reminding myself I can put aside a lot of things and not everything is "urgent". Some of my favorite calls for work are around Christmas time where I spend a few hours calling each of my reports and telling them happy holidays and here is your Christmas bonus. I made these calls from Adventure of the Seas last year and was happy to take the time away from my vacation to spread some holiday cheer. ScottD, jbrinkm, HeWhoWaits and 2 others 5 Quote
Ampurp85 Posted November 7, 2023 Report Posted November 7, 2023 I work on cruise ships, but I am never disrespectful to my fellow passengers. I have seen people having full Facetime calls in the most inappropriate places, like while navigating the WJ. As well as filming on the ship, filming themselves doing X, Y, and Z and filming their wins in the casino. Many people fail realize that just like it is your vacation, it is the same for 2K+. I say do you as long as it doesn't infringe upon others. Also, I knew it was a one and one/bot because of the spelling mistakes. ScottD 1 Quote
