Diamond drinks question

This will be my first cruise as Diamond. My mom and I typically have one or two drinks per day each. Do I get four drinks per day as Diamond, or is it four for the cruise? Can I use them on someone else, just order two drinks?

Thanks!

@WAYNO is not completely correct. You will have 4 drinks a day on your card as a diamond member. If others are diamond they will have the same. Anything you order with your card will use your vouchers. If you order 6 drinks, 4 will be free and the others will get charged. You can order drinks on your card for your mother but if only you are diamond, its 4 total.

I agree with Ampur85.  The drink vouchers are assigned to the Diamond member, if you are each Diamond you each get 4 drinks.  With that said, your 4 free drinks can be used for you, you can use them for your mother (on top of her free drinks if she is Diamond) or you can use them for complete strangers.
Mon a recent sailing with my hubby (both of us are D+) and  my MIL-Who is Emerald, I’d “buy” her a drink at dinner and  I’d ask the waitstaff to use one of my Diamond drinks for her.   At another bar they told my husband he had no drinks left and  asked if I wanted to use one of my drinks for him since I was drinking as well.

I'll agree to disagree.  My Wife does not drink at all.  I order drinks and they are just combined against our room total. There are times where servers don't use the card at all, and just bill the drinks to the room number.

I said not completely correct as your scenario applies to your situation. If op is in different room with none diamond folks your scenario won't apply.

I get that too.  I assumed, same room, only how it has applied to us.  I have further edited my original post, as my example was unfairly confusing.

Does anyone know how much drinks cost? I generally order wine or prosecco, but my mom loves the fruity, frozen drinks. Do those typically fall in to the free drink category?

Unless you're ordering some premium liquor, just about everything is $13 or less, which is the threshold for the voucher.

Yes the fruity frozen drinks are covered. Our last sailing I used my vouchers for my husband everyday. We were in a suite so I had water and soda and a glass of wine with dinner (maybe) I challenge myself to debark with normal ankles each sailing. If something is high in sodium (almost everything, but I'm talking to you onion soup) I just drink water. I was always allowed to use my vouchers for him, it was easy to do. The drinks were crazy watered down....but that's another topic. Just order and ask for them to use your voucher and hand over your sea pass card, no one blinked an eye. Very easy, I love the vouchers!

Have you tried taking water pills? A while back my legs swelled up so badly by the end of the cruise I had no idea what was going on til I googled it. Now I take OTC water pills (Diurex) during every cruise and they take care of 90% of the swelling.

Food & drink is one of the main reasons I enjoy cruising so I refuse to limit myself. I actually diet before cruises to make up for the weight I know I will gain, lol.

Great advice, thank you so much! I will try that!

As a diamond the "other" drinks will be discounted.  If you want more drinks free then head down to the casino.

Another thing to remember. You cannot accumulate your drinks as Diamond or Diamond Plus.  If you do not use them each day you lose them.   So my wife and I can order 10 drinks a day. If I dont use them by nightfall, I use the remaining for either water bottles, cans, of beer, soda etc., and stock up in my fridge . Even on disembarkation day you can order 4 x2 drinks ( as Diamond status)   So wake up early, and stock up on water etc for your trip home.

honestly, if they had evian bottles still on the ships, i would spare myself the grief of buying a water package and just get a fresh bottle of evian each day with my voucher -- or even 2, on the days i was not drinking as much, since i typically have one drink at dinner and maybe once at the pool during the day.

kind of kills me a little to have to use a diamond voucher on a small 12 oz bottle of water, though.

Great ideas, especially on the stocking up. We are very light drinkers so it'll come in handy to know how to use the leftover each day.

On my last cruise I asked my stateroom attendant her preferred soft drink-it was Coke and Fanta.  My unused drinks went to that….the attendant was very happy.

Drinks that exceed your free Diamond drinks are not all discounted  there’s a “diamond benefits” sheet in the cabin in day one that lists some benefits such as 50% off a wine or beer-good for 1 drink (or 2-depending on your C&A level)…that’s per cruise-not daily.

casino drinks are free if you earned Prime or better as your Casino status.

@Pattycruise beat me to it involving casino drinks. Lots of people think the casino on ships are like on land and that they can just get free drinks.  Not the case.

@Bowen most mix drinks will be $13. However beer and wine will be cheaper. I drink prosecco and it's about $9-10 a glass.

I brought a drink package 1 time and haven't again even before I reached diamond. I drink at most 3 drinks a day but a lot of sparkling water/coke zero. You can do a la carte easily once you become diamond.

I had a different experience recently (August) on Mariner in the dining room. My wife & I are Diamond and we were traveling with her sister who is not. At dinner I asked if we could get three glasses of wine and the answer was "no". The waiter said we could get two (one each for my wife & myself) but not a third for her sister. They said they could "wait a little while" and then put in a request for more wine so we said okay. Later they brought two more glasses of wine which was not really what we wanted.

@Lugnut that's a great example of ymmv.

I had dinner in Jamie's Friday night on Navigator. I purposely saved 2 of my drinks for that dinner. I got 2 glasses of Moscato because their peach based version is my favorite. I realized I was only charged for 1 after I went to karaoke and was going to use my 50% off on a Blue moon. I wasn't charged at all.

Sometimes they like you and bend and other times the newer crew members follows rules to the T.

Can someone please confirm or deny the rumour that you can use your diamond drinks for Ben and Jerry's milkshakes on the LOS?

You cannot use your diamond drinks for Ben and Jerry milkshakes on Liberty OTS. Those are considered separate and extra, just like Starbucks. I did use my Diamond drink for a chocolate milk with whip cream for one of the crew at Cafe Promenade (she was a friend of ours) and they accepted it.

We had dinner at Chops and the very nice waiter said he would "take care of us" with our Diamond drinks.  However I did not order wine, I ordered a mixed drink.  He "took care" of my husband....but I had all of my Diamond drinks finished up.  Oh well.  Yes, sometimes they do take care of us, or forget, or whatever.  Two diferent occassions on Cococay I had no Diamond drink charges at all, whether my order was via a waiter or at the bar....it's a good thing I didn't know that or I might have drank a lot more!

Foo-Foo drinks are ~$13 (think Lava Flow or Miami Vice)
Basic drinks are ~$10-11 ( think Jack and coke, Gin and tonic)
Beer ~ $8-9
Wine is all over the map and depends on your taste; you can easily go over the $13 if your into a specific brand

They charge your first four drinks of the day to the program (up to the limit $13 cap) if you do not speak up.

If you are a regular, they get pretty good about letting you know where you stand, I would often hear something like "you have one more left' or 'that was your last one'

We start the day with a mimosas, and have to remember to tell the server we are paying for this one, that way we have the afternoon's foo-foo drinks comped at full value.

to add to this.  If you order a wine or a drink with some sort of extra charge (rare but happens) you will pay the upcharge difference.  So that $14 or more glass of wine will cost you the $1 or more difference from the usualy alloted drink cost plus the gratuity on that $1

On Oasis, my daughter was able to use her Diamond drinks on Ben and Jerry milkshakes.  Even purchased free shakes for a friend.

Good to know about still having drinks on debarkation day! since we fly home that day it might be good to have water for the airport. Where is best to go for these since so much is closed on debarkation morning?

The WJ bar should be open. I've also gotten bottled water at Cafe Promenade on disembarkation morning.

I would have asked for the head waiter, this is in direct violation of the rules of the program

A question for the more knowledgeable people on this board regarding Diamond drinks. My wife and i just graduated to Diamond status and we usually always book the DBP but won't be doing that anymore. I know about the 4 drink vouchers each per person per day but what I'm not clear on are the discounts over and above the vouchers. Matt had posted the benefits per status tier earlier in the month and it shows for Diamond that in addition to the vouchers there are also available (2 coupons per sailing) 50% off for any glass of wine, beer or soda. Then there's another 20% off any glass of wine, beer or soda (this doesn't mention any limitation). So does all this mean that if on any given day when I've gone through the 4 vouchers and have used up the 2 50% coupons that any glass of wine afterwards is always 20% off?

The %-off coupons are single use.  They are "per cruise" and not refreshed daily like the vouchers are.

Ok...here is a question? If you have not used all your daily drink credits can you ask for a paper voucher to be used on another day?

I don't think so. However, once my wife and I had one drink left, so I swung by the trellis bar and asked for two unopened beers. Put them in the cooler in our room and we drank them on the balcony a few days later.

My lovely wife will also get a shot of Baileys on our way to the room for the night if she has a voucher left.  It goes into the cooler and makes a nice coffee in the morning.
