  1. The discounts are off the "onboard" price which they play with and don't tell you what it is. In wither words, it's royal Caribbean math and it won't make sense! Just buy early, check often, and if the price goes down cancel and rebook. There is no penalty to do this! Enjoy your first cruise! You will have a great time! Jane

  2. We just came back from the show , it is different , the stage is always down during the show which mean zero dancing sequence and more acrobatics and high jump acts. The show was around 35 minutes , I think it still a very nice show.

  3. I'm right there with you, Galveston is my only "Drivable" port and it is still a 9 hour drive, plan is to take Grandson #2 on Liberty in 2021 assuming she is still home ported in Galveston, Grandson #1 warned me Grandson #2 couldn't go on Oasis because Grandson #1 "only" got to go on Liberty in 2018, sibling rivalry, got to love it.

  9. Another trip... My first one as Platinum. No I will never make diamond and I don't really get anything for Platinum other than requesting the cool robe which I will do on the next cruise lol..... The Basics: First time on Majesty of the seas. The Crew: Myself, my 22 year old daughter Morgan and my 16 year old Madison. Dad stays home to work and pay for the girls trip! The Itinerary: Fly into fort Lauderdale 2 days early, relax, eat and drink, get in ship and go to key West (first time), sea day (relax and drink), nassau and then fort Lauderdale for 3 days (relax, eat and drink.. sense a pattern lol?) We booked this cruise as a total yolo. I was home in April feeling very guilty about not going to my daughter's last mom's weekend at University of Illinois. I started thinking, ok, we'd have spent a bit, let's travel instead after she graduates for a little 3 day weekend. Which turned into, hey let's travel 4 or 5 days. Which turned into hey, we can take a cruise!!! The 16 year old was all over the itinerary (let's go to Europe etc) but the 22 year old was exhausted finishing her final design project in material science engineering and said she would go anywhere if she could get the drink pkg and sleep! I was looking at 5-7 day cruises and an amazingly long cheap celebrity cruise (which now I wished I'd booked but I will get there!!!) and then happened on Cuba! We could go to Cuba!!!!!! My husband was such a good sport (history teacher who would be teaching summer school and not going) and said go! So we booked it in April. I've never YOLO booked a cruise like that. Within 2 days we had airfare and a hotel and airbnbs and were ready to go as long as Morgan passed all her classes lol. 2 days later the announcement came about the change in Cuban policy. Worried but cautiously optimistic we continued to get excited. The May escalation day came and went. Our biggest worry was if they would ever assign us our guarantee cabin! And then June came. First of all, I sprain my ankle. Badly. It's not broken but can I walk in Havana? Doesn't matter...we have an all day fun classic car tour! But it didn't matter. We were devastated when it was announced that travel would be banned to Cuba. We were cautiously hopefully that we would be grandfathered in but that was not to be. So now what? We had booked majesty only because of Cuba. I obviously like smaller and older ships ok...our first cruise was on vision in 2015 and we will be sailing it again after trips on other classes... But I'd have done a 7 day on a bigger ship. So I looked at our options. None. We would pay double to cruise another ship at the same time. We do have cancel at any cost insurance but my last dealings with Allianz and insurance were heartbreaking at best and we lost 10000. I just couldn't face that again even if we could find other dates in the future that could work (which we couldn't... The college grad has to get a real job sometime lol). So we were optimistic again... Maybe we would finally get to see cococay (since we couldn't tender on our trip in 2016). Nope....Nassau. The lemons keep flying. But we are making lemonade! Girls were just happy to be going on a trip, I'm happy that I will finally finish school next week, maybe it won't rain in Florida, this trip is gonna rock!!!! Any cruise is an amazing cruise! So we booked a specialty make your own sushi class, get an excursion in Nassau and think about packing!! So we leave in 6 days! I will update as we go. Unlike @TheHobbys if I lay out my suitcases, my Schnauzer will eat everything in the suitcase so I will have to pack and close. That will be today and tomorrow's project since I work all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday! We will get hair cuts and pedicures and look forward to our first kraken lava flow on the ship!!! I'm looking forward to an amazing 8 days with my girls, wondering if we can all go 4 days without voom...we are gonna try!... and for the first time getting on a cruise less than 6 months after the last one! 11. OK, so we made it to port of Miami before noon. Porter right there to get luggage though a lot of people around. He directed us to wheelchairs across the street but when asked he called for one to come get us. That was great the pusher knew exactly where to take us, checked in our documents, took us through security then turned us over to a royal caribbean pusher. Left before I could tip. Obviously need to tip immediately if I want to make sure they get them. The royal caribbean pusher, whose name I didn't catch asked where we wanted to stay and wait for room to open at 1. We picked Windjammer so he took us up, a little bit of elevator waiting. He knew all the backways to get us there quickly and wasn't afraid to shave people out of the way. He got us to a table, said we could put wheelchair in hall when we got to stateroom and went on. I was able to tip him. Windjammer is OK to get around in with wheelchair as long as you pay attention. The tile floor is significantly easier than the carpet, though. Quit a few places on ship where you need to go backwards to clear thresholds. Met my friends, waited around and then went to stateroom a few minutes early on chance it was ready. I think we freaked steward out a little but he was just bringing in chocolate covered strawberries for us. Nice accessible room which ill take and post pictures of. Voom instructions in room, easy to setup. Special needs at sea had already delivered rented wheelchair and 2 oxygen concentrators, not sure why 2.there is also a small fridge for medication and a sharps container though I did not request those, and a gallon of distilled water which I did request. The TV is playing the safety drill spy adventure. Have cruise compass and shore excursion book to post when I get home. So all in all it went pretty well. Dave is significantly more tired and weak today so that complicated things a bit. In real life we never plan back to back activities I'll post some pictures later.

  12. Day 1 Barcelona , As always on a cruise day I got up around 6 am just to realize that I am going to loose this time the endless battle of “should we go to the port early as possible or not”. My spouse was so tired , the fact she just came back from a business trip to the US did not helped. Know to recognize a lost battle I also went back to sleep (hey if you can not beat then join them and if you can not join them then run but I do not have this option anymore ? ) @Matt any good advice how to handle it ? . Around 9:30 PM we went down to eat breakfast , took our time there and checked out around 10:45. 15 minutes after and 23 Euros we arrived the port , no traffic at all even inside the port. There were some lines to drop the luggage as many people missed to add the tags , but it was not more than 5 minutes. Only two lines for security were established , Diamond and above and all the rest , but no queues at all. Check in was separated to regular , gold , Platinum and above + the key . Check in took 5 minutes , 4 of them as I wanted to switch my CC I used for online check in with another. All in all it took us around 10 minutes to complete all the process and get onto the ship , Love Barcelona port , everything simple. They offer some “champagne” on deck 5, we took our internet password and went to seat at park café for a light snack, the next station was the WJ as no boarding day can complete without visit to the WJ, interesting , it was quite empty for 12:30 PM , maybe since many people are coming from Europe they were flying the same day (very bad advice) the WJ food was the same old lunch food. We went to visit the diamond club , first time for us as we just got our diamond status, we tried the coffee and took some pictures which I shared yesterday , but that time the rooms were ready so we could drop our carryon. Our luggage arrive 5 minutes after, guess the tip helped (or at least I want to think like that so I can tell some people “told you so” ? ). It took me some time searching for the walking in closet to drop the suitcase just to realize I am not in a JS this time ☹ we are in a boardwalk balcony room ,very near the back of the ship with wonderful view of the aqua theater , the plus is the Soda package that comes with the room (yes also free meal at JR but have not decided yet if it is a plus or not) After we finish unpacking we went to do the usual tour at the different neighborhoods , although the ship is few month before its refurb it really good maintained and not showing her age (well I am sure if I will look very hard I will find something to complain about but hey , its not that site ?) It already 5 PM so we said we will go and check the diamond club happy hour , the club was not full at all , the second floor was empty and there were many available tables including the ones adjusting to the big window. We took some drinks and tip whenever we got them which made the drink stronger after the second time , or at least that’s what we felt. The club continued to be empty , that’s the advantage in a non US cruises (yap , the biggest one , not the ports right ?) here is the list of the drinks , not sure it changed or not but I will put it here anyway. The next station was the casino were I went to get my sticker for the free drinks , for some reason its not printed on the card automatically , well it was expensive sticker . Between the diamond drinks, the casino “free” drinks and the port intensive itinerary we thought we done good not to take the drinking package. As we booked the cruise only few weeks ago the only available seating was 8:30 PM which mean we can not use the diamond drinks there (by the way in the letter we got it says you can use them in the MDR during happy hour) so we went to one of the bars at 8:25 took glasses of wine and went to eat. The food was Ok , some better some less , we took the onion tart (too eggy for me), the BBQ ribs (very good) and the Salmon, oh we took also the Waldorf salad which was mehhh (there was one tiny piece of apple in it) , I guess first day MDR stuff. I am missing the CK , maybe if I will go up and tell them I am a follower of @Lovetocruise2002blogs they will give us to enter for one night ? As the dinner was late we missed cats , although I am a cat person (ask my neighbors they will tell you ) I was not that sad for missing it. We went up to rest for a while and continued to the balloon drop party which was as always nice , Tomorrow early day at Mallorca .

  13. Final thoughts-maybe The Wifi really does need some improvement. I realize being in the Gulf and relying on the satellite is iffy but this was ridiculous. You're on then you're off. Then you can't get back on. Also the Royal app is equally funky onboard. It kept telling me I had to have wifi to use it and of course, you don't need to. And it was not necessarily accurate. We used it mainly to check the menus. I say it's nice but the good old Compass is the more reliable. Saturday Night Live show really needs to be changed. It is getting old even for this old gal. I've seen it many time in many venues. Let's get a new show! The Two Funny Guys were- two funny guys! Even the teenagers thought they were funny. The food in MTD and our waiter and assistant waiter were outstanding! I saw very few passengers dressed formally for formal night-the majority wore what is sometimes called business casual or country club casual. The men especially have given up the coats and ties. First and last night were very casual with shorts everywhere . Two nights the people before us took long to eat or came late and we had to change tables and wait. Our cabin 9200 was huge and with curtains drawn actually gave us 3 private sleeping areas. Cherton was our cabin steward and he was a dream. The kids were amazed at how the beds were magically made up twice a day and if you left something on the bed it was right there after he made it "to the centimeter." We got our exercise walking to the very front of the ship. If you are looking for a quiet place to read or nap, go to Deck 4 Starboard near the shuffleboards. It is shady, breezy and quiet. Port side had a lot of smokers. The Diamond club was not too crowded and in spite of the "rules" our grandkids and at least one other grandparent- grandkid family group were allowed in. I was surprised to see obviously underage children being served alcohol and one young girl left the club with a 12 ounce glass filled with Irish Creme. Not cool! Debarkation in Galveston was quick and efficient. We were out the door and at our car by 9:30. Honestly it was one of the smoothest, most enjoyable cruises we have taken on a long time.

  14. Day 8- Helsinki The aches and pains of getting up this morning felt a bit like the day after running a marathon..not that I’ve ever ran one, but we had done over 40,000 steps the previous two days in 30 degree heat! Feeling a bit jaded we grabbed a quiet breakfast from the Park Cafe before setting out to enjoy beautiful Helsinki (I’d tried to go for an alliterative adjective but I couldn’t think of a positive word beginning with H...). It was another gloriously sunny day and we’d booked a ship’s excursion, another similar one to Stockholm- an unguided tour where the bus drops you off at three locations. Our main reasons for this were a) the price (£22 in a cruise planer sale, comparable with the shuttle bus!) b) the limited time in Helsinki (all aboard at 3pm) and c) The fact that the three things we wanted to see(main square, Sibelius monument and rock church) are so far apart that reaching them by foot or public transport would have been tricky. This tour was a bit smoother than the Stockholm one and we’re glad we took it. The only slight grumble is that here, as at Stockholm, we got significantly less time at the sites than advertised. I completely understand about traffic times and things, but the fact that it seems to be regular (and that the printed guide on the day was already displaying shorter times than the brochure) makes me think they’d be better advertising for a “typical case scenario” rather than “absolutely best case scenario”. Nonetheless, it was a good tour, of a beautiful city. We were back onboard by 1pm and enjoyed our first lunch in the Windjammer. This was followed by an afternoon in the glorious sun playing Shuffleboard (fast becoming a favourite) and swimming in the pool. For the evening, Mrs. M and I had a date night and used the third night of our 3 night dining package at Giovannis- her choice! I preferred Chops overall, but both were excellent and made a very nice change from the MDR and Windjammer. Theincluded food has been fine, but the Speciality restaurants are a bit like going to a nice restaurant on land. The beauty of being onboard is that you can order as much as you like, so for example we were able to sample octopus, which we probably wouldnt have wanted to risk paying out for! With Henry safely in the care of the outlaws (or rather, the outlaws safely in the care of Henry) we had some drinks, played some Shuffleboard and checked out the 9pm production showtime of Tango Buenos Airies. Dance shows aren’t really my thing, but one can’t help but be impressed by the quality of the music and dancers. Coming away from Helsinki today felt a little bit like we’re on the Home Stretch (probably because we literally are!) but we still have four more days to look forward to aboard the beautiful Brilliance of the Seas.

  16. The smaller ships have a lot more windows facing outward vs inward. You get a more "traditional feel" when it comes to cruising. Just check out the Schooner Bars on Radiance and Vision Class ships and you see, and feel, the difference immediately.

  20. I prefer the Southern islands but out of Florida I think those are longer than 7, I might be wrong. I've been on the eastern so many times they don't excite me as much. When I sail the Southern islands I go out of San Juan and they are 7 day, I have a B2B in 2020 with 2 different itineraries.

  21. Unlikely they'll change existing home ports. When she returns from Europe in November 2019 she sails to Miami. All December sailings in 2019 through to May 2020 are based in Miami. In May 2020 she leaves for a summer in Bayonne (close to New York city). In October 2020 she leaves Bayonne and sails to Ft. Lauderdale where she spends the 2020/2021 winter. The truth is Ft. Lauderdale and Miami are ~ 25 miles apart. I often fly in Ft. Lauderdale when sailing from Miami for the cheaper domestic airfare. Not that I think they would ever change her home port for booked cruises, but even if they did it would not be an issue.

  30. The easiest way to go about it is to just calculate the total price and decide if that will be a good deal for you. Don't try to wait for a lower price because it's not guaranteed to happen. If you see a lower base price for something you already purchased, recalculate and see if you save money. If so, cancel your previous purchase and repurchase at the lower price. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out Royal's "sale prices" I can tell you that $8.99 for the soda deal is the lowest I've seen it in six months, but the Refreshment and Deluxe Beverage have been lower than your post. Same thing applies for excursions and almost everything else in cruise planner. It's a pain but try to check your cruise planner at least once a week (before midnight on Sundays) because prices constantly change; feel free to check more often if you choose.

  32. More intimate experience. Smaller ships often yield a better service experience with the crew. Embarking and debarking can be easier. Easy to navigate. After sailing mega ships for a number of cruises I was on Vision and was "What am I doing taking the elevator?". It's easy and quick to make it from aft to forward. Smaller ships can visit ports that some big ships can't.

  33. Day 4 - At Sea After dinner, we went and saw The Gift. Ok, so it may be confusing but the music and production was kind cool. Some of the shows we have seen didn't make sense but the music made up for it at times. Not sure we would do it again, but kinda cool for a one time gig. We did sneak out when the cast started their bows. The last time it took us a little to get the crowd to funnel out before we could. Milling about for a little bit, we ended up at the 270 for a virtual concert. Not what we expected but could have been cool if there wasd a different band. We only hung out for about 20 minutes before getting bored and went wandering. The Brass and Bock had some nice looking snacks, cause you know ... it was time to eat again. There was a dude in there playing live music and singing which was better than the virtual concert, at least we thought so. We ordered up some fried pickles and pretzel bites. The guy who took our order didn't understand the SC and brought us a bill for about 10 bucks. He stood the waiting for me to sign it. Told him he got it wrong and we don't have to pay and he might want to grab the manager. He seemed confused but left to go inquire. Few minutes later he came back with a 0 balance bill and apologized. Shortly thereafter, we had our snacks. Pickle spears were good but didn't care for the pretzel sticks. We wandered around some more and found our way back to the casino. Hopefully, this night would be nice to us ... yeah, we were wrong lol. No additional funds for my retirement, sigh. Called it an early night just after 12. Our son was tired and made it home befor us and was watching TV. Our daughter was still out roaming with friends. She showed up about 1, which was her curfew... lucky for her lol. We tried to sleep in but the body aches from the wave beating woke us up. Time to ... guess what .... go eat.

  34. I have also found after all these cruises we've been on so far that often times, you find yourself wearing an item for a very short period of time. If you shower, wear a dress shirt to dinner, then take it off after dinner, hang it back up, I don't see any reason why that shirt can't be worn again later in the week. Yes, I admit, I'm a re-wearer. ?

  35. Who: me, age 49+, DH 72, visually and mobility impaired Where: leaving Cincinnati for ft Lauderdale, Port of Miami, Monday morning embarkation on Navigator of the Seas Who else: meeting 4 friends from HS with with either DH or DS of their own Why: Celebrating the big 50. Girls did 40 trip to Vegas 10 yrs ago but wanted to bring others this time. Picked cruise since my hubby is both visually and mobility impaired and hoping cruise will work best What else: I'm afraid of flying and heights. DH usually uses cane but for this adventure to bought a travel walker and arranged wheelchairs and rented on from special needs at sea which is supposed to be in our room. 1305, deck 10, accessible interior room So, I figured people might be interested in hearing our adventures since we are going to overcome challenges. Since hubby is not totally in a wheelchair we may have some new insights into what to expect. Day 1-Saturday. Getting ready to leave Cincinnati. Decided to rent a hotel room near airport where I can leave the car and take shuttle to airport in morning. Managed to stuff everything in 1 carryon backpack, 1 large suitcase, 1 cpap machine duffel, and neck purse, since it's up to me to schlep everything while simultaneously not letting Dave run into anything or fall over something. No wheelchairs at hotel or shuttle so will need to walk slowly and carefully with travel walker (no seat, weight 7 pounds, folds up small small!) first arranged wheelchair at Airport. Flying first class on delta non stop to fll so Dave can be more comfortable. Mobility issues due to: various injuries caused by blind guy doing whatever he wanted while ignoring what could happen. As in, motorcycle rallies, dog showing, crew chief on pro race car, engine building etc. Ended up on front page of USA today years ago as only blind crew chief in drag racing. 5 yrs ago had major back surgery and now has a bunch of titanium pins and wires holding his back together. Other: my best friend and hubby are flying down with us, flying down a day early to stay at hotel in FLL, then taking a car to Port of Miami Monday morning. Against advice of everyone on these boards, traveling with birth certificates and id's since tax season (I'm a CPA) was overwhelming and never managed to get passports. Did buy travel insurance with evac and medical just in case. Will fill in more details as this adventure progresses. Send questions!

  39. Listen to @Matt You do not need to have both in the cabin for Voom. We have never purchased more than 1 device for us. I would say also look into your planner. Sometimes they bundle the DBP with Voom at a lower price than when you buy them separately. If you see it on the planner that way, contact RCL directly. For example, I have seen the bundle for 57 pp. DPB was 49.99 and Voom 11.99 = 62.

At the time I took screen shots of the page on their website showing I had paid in full but it was never an issue. Turned out to be the exchange rate working in my favour. Perhaps that's what's going on with your booking too.

  44. I'm leaning that way myself for our upcoming cruise. I also think Passport Cards are a false economy...unless you are a resident of a Northern or Southern U.S. border town and make frequent crossing by land. It's no better than a Birth Certificate and Driver's License for 'normal' border crossings/cruises...but useless if you need to get back the to US in an emergency from a foreign land.

Another sale on the UK website..up to £1000 off ? So i check dates of my Booking as £1000 off is not to be missed ? Original cost on UK site with free wifi was £2,356.78 , cost today in sale with up to £1000 off is £2,337.64 with no wifi ? So to date US site is still the cheapest ?

  48. So , how can I describe this day, easy going I guess, We started the day very early around 2:30 AM catching a taxi to the airport for our 4:30 am flight, I hate the early morning fights as they kill the night before and most of the day but again that was half price of taken the direct flight the day before. lucky for us the flight was not that full and we had enough space to catch some sleep (although it is flight sleep which is never enough). We arrive around 8:30 AM to Brussels which left us 9:30 hour until the flight to Barcelona . after a quick check we found out it will be too expensive to catch the earlier flight. The weather was quite cold and very windy so we decided no to catch a train to downtown and spend the rest of the time at the lounge. So we went to sleep in one of the private rooms they offered after eaten a quick breakfast . the lounge is very impressive I might say , many places to reset, many wireless charging points and decent food. And yes this car is from chocolate We also found the massage chairs , my spouse kept re starting the massage session (the lounge was empty so no queues to use the chairs) I think she mostly loved the fact it never tried to sell her any products at the end of the massage session nor try to convince her she must sign for another treatment ? . The down side is that now I need to find out how much the chair cost and if it will fit our apartment. Time went by and we went to catch the next flight (not before we bought some chocolates , hey after all we are in Brussels) . Two hour later we landed and went to the hotel (the Hilton this time ) , taxi cost around 30 Euros , the hotel is nice and the rooms are just big enough. To make sure I will have something to report on and to do something else in Barcelona beside sleeping we decide to go to a restaurant , quick check in the app (The fork) ,we found a near by resto bar which looked nice. The restaurant was very good , perfect ambient and just good food (which was also cheap with the app 40%) Two first course (carpaccio and a warm cheese salad) and two main course (Tuna stake and risotto) + two glass of the house wine was around 33 $. Now its time to catch some sleep for the big embarkation day tomorrow
