Non-smoking Ship

Recommended Posts

I am sorry to disagree, I can't see your point, I really think you are being a little bit extremist with this. Lots of RCL passengers enjoy smoking, and there is a lot of spaces smoke free.....this radicalism of non-smokers is really a kind of annoying and short minded. Sorry to say it!

I stopped smoking in the 70s but it doesnt bother me enough to quit what I m doing and leave.  If we can put a man on the moon why cant we develop a state of the art filtration system that would take care of this problem?

Just of Indy - Smoking was banned in the casino

Yea I noticed that too. Wasn't sure it that was just Indy, just UK cruises, or if its been rolled out across the fleet

I'm sure this will be on a ship by ship case, depending on where the ship is home docked. A non-smoking ship and/or casino would never fly in the Asia markets.

When we were on the Radiance in NZ/Australia Jan 2018, the Casino seemed to be smoke free.  I can't swear it was, but I don't remember there being much  cigarette smoke.

I was thinking more like China and Singapore and such.

Agree - I was  only commenting that we saw little smoking on our ship at that time - less than on the Harmony in May.

All RC ships leaving from Southampton have smoke free casinos as it is illegal to allow smoking inside a public venue in the UK.

it was like this for my two Indy sailings in 2017 and 2018 and my explorer sailing in May this year.

I was so disappointed to learn that smoking and it's effects will be allowed on Harmony for my trip this August.

Don't worry.....unless you like to gamble, it really wont affect you or the other 5000 ppl on board who don't smoke..same as your cruises that you enjoyed so much on Indy and Explorer!. (as the casino is the ONLY place on the whole ship that you can smoke inside)

And even if you do like to gamble, I have heard that on Harmony the casino seems to be very well vented....this coming from non-smokers.'

If this is not good enough for you..then you know you have options to totally avoid smoking...cruise on Indy and Explorer out of Southampton.

Same. Thankfully I couldn't smell it near Cafe Promenade or else i probably wouldn't be able to eat there.

I think I need to pay more attention.....lol.....I don't ever remember smelling smoke on any cruise ship...except right outside the casino...but on another level or down the hall??!..cant say I ever have....

Stinky people...stinky perfume....stinky food for sure but that's about it from my dozen cruises or so.

Except maybe Brilliance..the pub's right next to the casino entrance and if ppl stood right there you could smell it.(pretty sure that was Brilliance) .but I would expect that if someone was smoking about 10 ft away from me no matter where I was..

Meh. I remember not thinking that. I also don't enjoy being in closed areas with smoke. There was a smoking area on one of the decks, can't remember which one but we went up almost every night for cigars. It was outside so it wasn't bad but sometimes you could smell it near the pool.

I wish there'd be more smoker friendly areas that dont intrude on the nonsmokers.  Like installing better filtration areas in the casino as well as doors so that nonsmokers dont have to be inundated by the smoke cloud.  A cigar bar would be just heaven to me.   Same with the outdoor smoking areas.  I dont want nonsmokers needing to walk through my cloud just to get to where they need to go. But I also dont want smoking to be made so inconvenient for me that I need to crawl inside of the funnel, do a handstand, while carrying the hope diamond just to be able to smoke.  I try, I really REALLY do try to be considerate of the non smokers.  I dont blow my smoke in their direction, I dont hold my cigarette out into their path of travel, and I move my cigarette so a child doesnt see and think that I must be a really cool person and thus smoking must be cool.  But some of the hysterics I've seen from nonsmokers, entering into the small smoker friendly areas is a bit much.  The wild waving of hands, the exaggerated coughing, the need to "inform" me that its a horrible habit, etc.  Hey I get it, its a gross habit.  It'll likely kill me some day.  But until a cruise is made smoke free, we both need to inhabit the same space, lets try to get along.  I'll try not to inconvenience you with my smoke, you try not to go into my dark smoky corner waving hands.

Royal had indoor smoking lounges on some ships, the "Connoisseur's Club". They've been removing them and converting for other uses.

I think they cited "changing attitudes in society" or something to that effect as a factor.

I think, unfortunately for smokers, societal norms are changing and smoking is becoming more and more unacceptable.

I am a former smoker and I am with ThyriC on this one.  I just roll my eyes when I see people running through the casino with their shirts covering their whole face and gesturing wildly, as if that’s going to help.  Find another way to get to where you’re going, for God’s sake !  It may be out of your way, but you CAN get to where you’re going without trapesing through the casino where you KNOW there’s going to be smoke !

No one hates having a smoldering cigarette in their face more than me but if it ever gets THAT bad, I will just quit going in there.  It’s my choice.

In Australia the casinos on rccl are all non smoking, as smoking in Australia is becoming fround apon so hence the restriction.

Also on my recent cruise on ovation they cut the smoking area down on the pool deck from half to a quarter! Standing room only!

However as a non-smoker I don't believe a ship should be smoke-free.

I see it as a freedom issue!

If you want to fill your lungs with that crap so be it!, your choice.

The only suggestion I might have would be to have a nice smokers area "not a dungeon", also away from kids and overzealous non-smokers....jokes 😂

Yeah...what bothers me the most are companies and society trampling your rights and freedoms for whatever is the "cause" of the day....whether its smoking or straws......you cant please everyone all of the time....we have to get along...it cant be My way or no way.....as that doesn't work with 6000 ppl on a ship or anywherwe.

I agree....it would be nice if they would have a smoking lounge or bar..it would prob help a lot..but on a ship with 16 decks and the size of a small city.....ONE area next to ONE pool(aren't there like 10 pools?!) for smokers seems like a fair compromise imho.

You can try and contain the smoke, but it's smoke. A separate pool or lounge area seems fair.

I always thought it was funny back in the day when they had "smoking sections" on airplanes, separated by a row of seats. YOU ARE IN A TUBE!

I'm with @monctonguyabout peoples individual rights. I'm a cruise libertarian. You do your thing and I'll do mine, as long as those things do not fringe on the rights of each other.
