  1. I recently took an RC cruise on an Oasis class ship. I thought with the new design that the smoking problem would be fixed, but it was not. Every day when entering or exiting the dining room, we had to breathe the smoke that poured out of the casino. It entered the surrounding stairways and elevator areas as well. It was prevalent all the way into the first section of the dining room. The casino functions as the indoor smoking area on the ship and is wide open to many public areas. The smoke does not know it is supposed to stay in the casino. On other cruise lines (Holland American) they do not allow smoking in casinos that are wide open to public areas. It is only allowed on ships were the casino is separated from public areas. Princess only allows smoking in the casino on some nights and then only to active players. On RC it is a 24 hour ever day indoor smoking area that ventilates the smoke to surrounding public areas.
  2. Why can't RC ventilate the casinos? Instead of the smoke pouring out into the promenade or other public areas, exhaust the smoke outdoors. It should be easy to do. If the casinos are going to function as an indoor smoking area, ventilate them as they do all other smoking areas. All other indoor smoking areas are enclosed and ventilated. On ships that have a promenade, the smoke goes there because it is right above, with a stairway leading from the middle of the casino to the middle of the promenade. On ships like the Oasis class, the smoke goes to the adjacent areas, such as the elevators, stairways and entrance to the dining room. I am not a smoker but think they should have areas for people to smoke. But those areas should be provided in a way that doesn't force non smoker to breathe the smoke when in public areas of the ships. RC could do this easily but does not. Close the doors to the casino and ventilate. They could even have a ventilation system that allows the doors to stay open but keep the smoke in the casino. This is an easy engineering fix. I do not understand why RC doesn't address this. RC would be my go to cruise line, but I consider others with better designs and smoking policies.
