Cruising on Allure for my 20th wedding anniversary at the end of April. Booked through Costco but spent a lot of time picking our room and finally settled on an interior balcony with a view of the aqua theater and ocean beyond (room 9329). Later learned because of retrofit my entire view will be a giant purple tube for the Ultimate Abyss slide. I will literally have people screaming past my room. Costco agent was happy to try to resolve the situation but RC told them if they changed our room, they would have to change everyone’s. Can I do anything? Will I make it worse if I throw a fit?

Did you book more than 1 cabin? Not sure I understand what they mean by "they would have to change everyones"

Right? We only have the one room, but it implied that they would have to change everyone’s room that was impacted by the retrofit. Which sounds like a pretty lame excuse to me.

yeah, the Abyss is a pain that it blocks the view. Royal should offer these rooms at a educed rate cause you can't see the ocean

Boardwalk balconies are usually less than OV balconies... i.e. they are reduced.

Your room is high enough that the slide really wont be an issue, I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the cruise.

Here is a shot that shows where your room is, you may hear the occasional person going down, but you will hear much more noise from the boardwalk itself. Even if the slide wasn't there, you would still have all the backdrop of the ATS there anyway.

In my opinion that is one of the best cabins on the ship.  I have done those end rooms 3 different times.  You get a view of board walk,  you get a view of the ocean, and you get to watch the Aqua show from your balcony.  Here is a video of the same cabin on the 10 floor on the Symphony of the Seas.  If you skip to the 6:30 mark you will see balcony views.

Based on photos in thread.....seems like you may be over reacting a little.

Did you pay for the drink package?  When you board, go to the bar, take a shot or two before you get to your room.  Once inside when you go out on balcony look to the right and everything will be alllllllright.

then look left and down for people watching

Then look straight ahead and realize....the only view blocked is the open door of 9328 (maybe 9330) and think to yourself how great it is that you don't have to worry about that cabin having 85 yr old exhibitionist in it 😉

Part of this post is a joke.....but which parts......

What stateroom did this person want their TA and Royal to change them into seeing that 9329 is the absolute last room on the 9th floor with a boardwalk view?  Did they really think Royal would upgrade them into an actual OV?  When you look at the deck plans for Allure it does make one wonder what type of compensation or new stateroom were they asking/hoping for?

That's the kind of answer from Royal phone reps that requires a second call.

Don't get the answer you want? Try again, the answer might change. WE know that. REAL TAs know that. Costco agent apparently doesn't know that.

Change room and next time…don’t say why. Just say, “I’d like to change my cabin to Cabin XXX “. You don’t have to explain yourself, but also know they don’t owe you anything either. As long as your aren’t past final payment, that isn’t an issue in the least. I agree with the comment above that you just spoke to the wrong agent and they were having a bad day.

This. I used to do this with my GTY's pretty much every time before I used a TA and I've had my TA move cabins several times in the past couple years. A TA can even do it themselves without a phone call.

Long walks to the elevator = an empty glass that HAD a drink in it. 😎

That's what 2 hands are for.

Ironically, as I'm awaiting a neighborhood balcony GTY to be assigned for a Wonder cruise next month, Boardwalk far aft is what I'd LEAST like to be assigned... largely for the long walk and no desire to be near the aqua theater b/c we've seen InTENse numerous times and aren't huge fans.

Good example of why people shouldn't generalize about "good cabin location"... not everyone likes the same locations.

Without question the room could be changed to another boardwalk room.  However it appears as though the individual wanted to view the Aqua theater shows from their balcony and they wanted to see the ocean from a far ways away.

Without knowing what exactly the asked Costco TA to do its had to say for certain they would have gotten a different answer.  They can from that balcony still see the boardwalk they can still see Aqua theater shows but their view of the ocean is gone.  The kicker is they didn't pay for an oceanview room they paid for a boardwalk room and they can still see the boardwalk.  Hopefully the individual will come back and respond and tell us what room they were attempting to move into.  Was it boardwalk, central park view (I would think that would be a easy simple swap) but if they were attempting to move from boardwalk to a oceanview because they lost their distant view of the ocean that is an entirely different thing and of course RC would turn them down because their room isn't a oceanview room.

You are correct, one for yourself and one for she who must be obeyed who is waiting, patiently in your cabin. Then you end up with two empty glasses. 😎
