Ok, I’m back!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Winter in Illinois with no hope of cruising soon and waiting to get a vaccine so I can go to Disney was MAJORLY getting me down!  It was time to come back home lol.  I have missed thinking about cruising and we have begun to consider a New Year’s Eve cruise with the kids, since spring break is impossible for the next few years (husband and I both teach, and our spring breaks are off until my district shifts again).  Anyway, just wanted to say hi again and I hope everyone is well and planning for cruising with a vengeance (and a prayer that things open up soon)!  Jane

Don't think we've ever interacted but welcome back! We are booked for September which is basically a coin flip at this point.

If that's cancelled but other things are a go in Q3 or Q4 as some are predicting, might book last minute-ish, just need a little heads up for wife's job (nurse so cannot just take off last minute).

Fingers crossed!

We hope to travel to Clearwater or something in late March. Wife will have vaccine by then, I probably will not but worth the risk (we both survived COVID already, she got it volunteering as an EMT day after Xmas and passed it to me, minor-ish symptoms)... Wife needs a trip, she's been working through all this, whether volunteering as an EMT or her day job as an RN, scare after scare after scare after outbreak after outbreak ... You get the idea ... She needs a few days in the sun... STAT.

We might do a NJ Shore or Ocean City MD over the summer. Also a trip to NY Adirondacks where wife and her family own a few small cabins...

Gotta make some sorta back up plans ... And I'm grateful to have the means to do so.

I will cross my fingers for you! I totally feel your wife’s need for sun and warm.  Please tell her thank you for her service!  My husband and I are in the current group to get vaccinated (educators) but the roll out is very slow...hoping it speeds up..and my husband has some health issues.  If I get vaccinated, we have agreed I will take my almost 18 year old to Disney for spring break.  She’s had a miserable senior year and this was the plan before all our lives changed.  We will chance it, be as safe as possible and quarantine her when we get back.  However, if I don’t get my first shot in the next 3 weeks, then we scrap it and go in June.  Maybe we can do an Airbnb on Lake Michigan low key for a few days.  Our last cruise was an amazing 12 day med/Greek isles  summer 2019 and we cancelled our 2020 cruise so I’m anxious to try...looking like Christmas 2022 might be the time though I’d love to try 2021.  I just don’t think I could take another cancelation!  Jane

Everyone has to make their own decisions on risk profile and what is or is not acceptable but I will share that I have been over to Disney at least a dozen times since spring break 2020 started and have been very impressed with the efforts made to control spacing, enforce mask wearing, etc.

Welcome back!.....haven't missed much...no cruises still!.....

I am hoping I can leave my city sometime this year as we are severely locked down here and have been pretty much for close to a year now......

Cruising is a distant fading memory and hope at this point...you'll tend to see that my posts here have been quite realistic (or negative as some like to think ) about cruising starting soon.....lol

Hi Jane! As a Chicagoan I totally feel you on winter making you think about a vacation!

I'm already sick of the snow and the cold and just want to be in sun and sand and ship! I've got my fingers crossed my 8-night in September goes ahead in some fashion (I'm imagining it being shortened) just to shake off the shadows of 2020!

Good to hear!  We have been super cautious and will continue to mask and distance but the vaccine is a game changer for me.  Jane

We have had a pretty mild winter until the last couple weeks and it still is bad...so so done!  Jane

Spent a day at Magic Kingdom mid-week last week, and I agree - Disney is very good with doing all they can to keep people safe.  Airports, on the other hand... Ugh...

Jane, welcome back!

If it helps any we went to Disney November 28-December 7th

Disney is doing an excellent job with making you feel safe.

They are very strict on wearing your mask.

They are cleaning everything all the time, you see CM cleaning.

They stop the rides to clean them on a schedule.

They have sanitizer all over the place and hand washing stations too.

You do mobile ordering for counter service, loved it.  Was so organized and way less hectic!

We stayed onsite and used Disney buses, very organized and safe.

When we got back a week later I got COVID.  Only me, not husband/daughter/daughter's boyfriend.

After they did contact tracing, it was concluded I got it from work, go figure.

So, in other words, no different than a cruise ship.

It's so frustrating that these places are allowed to remain open but we aren't allowed to sail.

One factor may be that it's much easier to escort a non-compliant guest off of Disney property than it is to remove a non-compliant passenger from a ship at sea.

Easier on a boat than a plane, I read today that someone died of Covid while on a flight, unbelievable that you'd get on a plane while unwell with Covid symptoms. I feel for the other passengers and those who tried to save him while the flight diverted
