Royal loft suite ballers! Makes my GS look pedestrian

It kind of is… even I’ve been in one on Wonder before. 🤣

Being right by the SL/CK & under the suite sun deck were the highlights for me. Nothing against the nice room with its tub shower & fancy TV that comes out of the ceiling but it was having free drinks, coffee machine, & snacks literally steps from my cabin door that did it for me.

@AGSLC5, where have you been ????

I am always here lol. I just read more than comment BUT I have loved La Bamba since childhood and I had to help her out lol.  I have been doing a lot more cruising on Celebrity than Royal lately. Last march I went on Harmony and I know it was spring break but it was just not the best. The food really has declined and I just really like Edge class and solstice class ships better. I hope you're doing well. I saw you made pinnacle that's awesome. Oh and one more thing I really love that the Casinos on Celebrity are fully non smoking that is a game changer for me lol.

Were you on HM on the March 11th, 2023 sailing? We were on that one. I agree. HM used to be my favourite ship. I loved that sailing, the cabin and being with my sister and parents. We have such treasured memories from that trip, but the food definitely was not as good as on other ships.

Thank you for the Pinn congrats.  Now that we finally made it, the door is slightly open to trying other lines.

It would be great to see you, Steph.  I hope it happens.

We are in the same cabin with the same itinerary in April, so I am really looking forward to this one!  To help with child going to college . . . We took our first cruise in 2002 when oldest was 12.  Our April cruise is with oldest, DIL, and two awesome grandkids (1 and 3).  Our middle son and his wife are in the adjoining CLS.  Youngest, sadly, is still in college and cannot come, but he and I will go together on a mom/son cruise between last day of class and first day of summer internship.   Our family grew as the kids aged, and sharing the cruise experience with kids and grandkids is amazing!

I'm late to this one, but congrats on the room!! Looking forward to that picture tour!!  Always love a good Oasis blog,  and I gotta say, your families packing game is WAY ahead of schedule.  I'm lucky if we have the suitcase out 3 days before the cruise, and it's not zipped up until about midnight the night before we leave!

Edited: had to fix my incorrect spelling of "Your"!!

Yup that’s my jam. Being close to SL and sun deck is awesome on Wonder. I’ll send you some pics.  🤪 Hahaha

Gee thanks. Unless the pics come with free drinks, that's OK, lol.

Do let me know who the CK manager and supervisor are if you don't mind. The staff we had in June was the best we've ever come across but I know several have moved to other ships (one of the concierges is on Icon for example). Keep an eye out for Vinay (wrong spelling I'm sure) from India.

Thank you for the encouragement. We definitely plan to keep cruising into our retirement years, with the girls and a growing family in the future, as long as our health allows. I have already informed the kids that they know my cruising style. So when it's their turn to treat me to one......😁

It's the Home Genie/teacher running the show, otherwise they would be worse than they already are. We don't zip until the morning of either. We always have last minute stuff that goes in and Hubby has this thing where he says there is no need to put any more stress on the zippers than necessary so they don't break as easily.

I agree. That whole Deck 17/18 area on Wonder is gorgeous. I love the decor style of the suites on Deck 17/18.

So it's the day before we leave.....

The packing situation has improved slightly. I only have last minute toiletries items left. Hubby was up until midnight last night packing. I have no idea what his status is. D17 has made her list but has not packed a thing.

Off to run some last minute errands shortly.

And of course, most importantly before a cruise, getting a mani/pedi with the girls once they get home from school.🙂

Cruising with family is awesome. My granddaughter is graduating from college next year with a double major. She is a straight A student. She just informed me she is going to law school. Grandmother will be teaching a couple more years. Where did the time go? Have a joyful cruise with your girls. Granddaughter asked for a cruise next year.

Pre-Cruise thoughts

  •  It’s another relaxing sailing with two beach days (Labadee, PDCC). The girls are excited for a redo of our NYE sailing because they got rained out and it was not that warm the last time. Hubby and the girls have tickets for Thrill Waterpark this time.  As for me, I am not leaving the cabin.
  • Another thing that I am really looking forward to this sailing is not only seeing @recogneyes again, but also finally being able to sail with @A&L_Ont (who many of you know from that other place). Andrew and I have gotten to know each other well over the last few years. Our families were supposed to sail together for #majorstarclasstakeover in March 2022 but Andrew and his family couldn’t make it. Then, we ended up running into each other at DTW when we were stuck there in July 2023. We were trying to get to Wonder, and Andrew and Lisa were on their way to Freedom. Anyway, we all booked this sailing very early on and it’s been a long time coming! Can’t wait! Hubby is equally as excited as this means more company for him on the Flowrider.
  • Once again, in the spirit of a live blog, please do not hesitate to ask any questions.  I will do my best to find out whatever I can for you.
  • When responding to a post with a series of pictures, please do not include the pictures in your reply.  It just makes for easier scrolling.
  • Lastly, I will try to post videos and stories on Instagram.  You can follow me @lovetocruise2002

Looking forward to seeing you again Sabrina - we will likely find Justin at flowrider first and I will look up and wave to you while you enjoy your fabulous balcony.  How wonderful that you can share this with your girls - what a lovely way to create another March Break memory.

There was a thread recently by @Smokey79 recently where booking Chef's Table and Hibachi ahead of time was discussed. This is a topic that has come up frequently in other forums as well. I have mentioned here, and in other places, that I have never booked Hibachi ahead of time when sailing star, and this sailing remains no different. We don't do Chef's Table ever so I cannot comment on that. Not our scene.

Anyway, we have always waited for the Genie to book us into Hibachi, even when we had 10 in the Villa last year on HM. We have always been able to secure a time in our usual dinner slot (around 6:30/7pm). This time was no different. I asked Andrew and Lisa if they wanted to do Hibachi together this time, better than being stuck at a table with strangers. Between our two families we have 7 people and Shane was able to secure a 7pm time for us together without any issues.

Ok, the highlight for me here is .... SHANE! 🥰 You are doubly blessed.  He's been on both our SC sailings. I only met him briefly but he's literally EVERYWHERE on the ship. Both sailings, i felt some days i saw him more than our own Genies. 😃 One day i hope to be lucky enough to enjoy his legendary Genie powers. I did hear he wanted to stay in NY/NJ, so perhaps 3rd time will be the charm for our Symphony cruise in May. One can only hope! ❤️

Absolutely true about kids aging and grandchildren arriving!  Since my own children are in their 40’s (heaven only knows where that time went!)…it means the grandchildren are now aging!  My youngest grandson will be 11 in just 5 more weeks and the oldest granddaughter will be driving in a few more months and turns 17 this year!  I feel so blessed to have 3 beautiful adult children (with 3 wonderful spouses) and 5 growing grandchildren which I get to share my life with!  Not to mention my husband of almost 45 years!  We may not be rich in $$$ but being rich with a loving and close-knit family makes my life fully satisfied!

There are so many of you on this board with growing families…grown families…and just starting off families!  Stay present and enjoy each day…one moment at a time.  None of us know the future, however, we do know today!  Thank you for sharing so much of your lives with all of us!

It would be great to see you too. I have been trying other lines. I signed up with URcomped and they got me on Virgin which I love. The food is really good. The casino is on the smaller side but they have Ultimate Texas holdem and three card which are the two games I play and it is also non smoking. Also I love the Adult only aspect and it's not as wild as people think. It can be if you want it to be but if you just want to see some shows, eat good food, and gamble it's perfect. I am also even going to try princess next year and see what I think. This summer I am going on Beyond to the ABC islands and then over thanksgiving going on Ascent but next year I am trying a princess cruise that is 10 nights that goes to Eastern and Southern Caribbean. I heard getting in their casino program is not too difficult so hopefully that will happen and I will have another option to try.

I believe I was on on the sailing right after you on March 18. I always buy UDP and still the food was not very good. The shows on Oasis class and now Icon class can't be beat and I have been on I believe 56 Royal Caribbean Cruises but I really have moved over to more Celebrity now. Still I like the newer ships I am a new ship snob lol. When both your girls are officially out of the nest maybe you should try an Edge class ship and see if you like it. I saw you are trying Reflection but here is the problem with that. It's now old and wasn't refurbished so I feel like it's not a fair test to see if you like the brand. I don't mind the solstice class ships and I still go on them but I strongly prefer Edge class and you can really tell the difference between the two classes. I still think you will have a great time on Reflection but I would give Celebrity one more chance on an Edge class ship.

Yes! We are so looking forward to catching up with him again. And he does prefer ships based out of NJ so 😉 It's our 3rd time with Shane too lol. But first time with him as our actual Genie. We first met Shane back in 2019 on the Anthem GC and we kept in touch with him ever since. Then we sailed with him on Oasis for #majorstarclasstakeover in March 2022, but there was a mix up and he was supposed to be on vacation, but then he came back early. Anyway, we saw him lots, but he wasn't our Genie. This time he is!

This is what my Mom always says too. She too is in the same chapter of life as you are. 3 grown girls, 3 SIL, and 6 grand kids, the oldest (D17) is graduating high school in a few months. She never stops reminding how blessed we all are. And no truer words, we don't know the future, we only have now. Hence the YOLO, Cruise Big!

We're going in knowing that. There was a reason for trying Reflection other than the timing working out. If I was trying Royal for the first time, I would want to go from smaller to larger. If I tried Icon or Wonder first, and then went to Mariner, I would be really disappointed. I would rather go from Mariner to Wonder/Icon. We will definitely try the Edge class one day. But Hubby has to outgrow the FlowRider first. We have a booking on Beyond that we are going to cancel for July 2025 and move it to SY. Reason? No FlowRider, he thought about it, and can't do it.

We had a table to ourselves last year on HM too. We squeezed all 10 of us at the table. You are right, it was way better. Not that we mind sharing a table with random strangers but it's hit/miss depending on who you end up with.

I am utterly amazed how much people who work full time cruise on here. Y’all have my utmost respect. Especially Canucks who have to travel great distances. I have 3 this year and feel like I must be retired. Y’all are just on another level.  I am not worthy.

+1, especially the travel part. We're only able to swing it schedule-wise b/c I'm flexible for a large portion of the year, my wife has a teacher schedule with the obvious breaks, and it's an hour drive to PC for us. We swing it finance-wise b/c we stay in caves, not fancy-schmancy suites, lol.

He was ok with the Beyond booking up until Icon inaugural. It was actually his idea to book Beyond over the Star inaugural. We had holds on both a few months ago. Looking back, thank goodness we never put the deposit on the Star inaugural. I would not be able to make the new date of 8/31. Goes to show you that things happen for a reason. Anyway, during the Icon sailing, he decided that he would be too bored without it so we will be making a visit to Next Cruise in a few days.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. We did not rent a car this time. We looked into it but the car rental that is close to the hotel does not open on Sundays for returns. It was just going to be too much of a hassle to return the car so we decided it was not worth the cost. So anyway, in answer to your question, sadly, I don't think that we will make it to La Bamba this time around.

On Friday, because we are stuck on that afternoon flight, we don't land until 4pm (assuming it's on time), and then on Saturday, the kids want to go to Sawgrass Mills and that is nowhere near a La Bamba location. However, we, or should I say I, because I am the Home Genie, found an interesting place for us to try for dinner this weekend.

I am counting on you to take over the live blogging on 3/17!

Winner, Winner!

This is why we have to do. Not sure how many more times we can round up all 4 of us that doesn't fall on high season pricing. And even with low season pricing, SC is becoming more and more out of reach these days. Not that we got a bargain at all on this cabin, but we are going to do it now while we still can. Because it might literally not happen again.

There's always gotta be one in the group lol

We don't come across the shenanigans that some of you do lol, only cancelled flights 😬 but thank you, hoping for smooth travels and sailing all the way through!

It's not the ATS this time, but there quite a few ATS in the future. I have to leave room to add on more freeloaders possibly, omg, I cannot believe I am even admitting that.

The best of both worlds, Sawgrass Mills shopping and lunch or dinner at La Bamba Plantation! There are multiple locations.

Hubby and I were talking last night about excited we are for this surprise La Bamba visit and I was telling him how I think I missed it. I have always know they have locations scattered over South Florida. I also knew from before that the 17th St. location is the most southern location, and the rest are North of it. I forgot about the west though and that’s the Plantation location. Anyhow, so thankful it was brought up! Hubby and D17 are so ready for their Queso!
