Let me get my disqualifications out there first.  I'm a lowly Platinum member with RCL and we've only been regularly cruising for about 10 years.  Part of the reason our club status isn't higher is because we have cruised on other lines.  I still feel like Royal's loyalty program is very good.  Compared to other programs like frequent flyer for an airline it is not time limited.  You simply continue to accrue points as you cruise even if it takes you years to get to the next level.  There are shortcuts to the top if you want to spend the money to get there.  Nobody guarantees that benefits won't change but I think their system is pretty straightforward as to what you can expect at each level.  Maybe because we're still newby's we don't have as high of expectations.  We enjoy the little "welcome back" statements from the staff when we join the line to board or the loyalty reception that we now get to attend.  Ok the drinks are watered down at the event but we're still pinching ourselves that we're on a cruise.  As far as food and service 20 years ago that isn't in our minds as we felt that the cost of a cruise was beyond our reach back then.  While we have cruised others so technically we have loyalty points with them we continue to look at Royal first because we think their ships are newer and better, price is fair compared to other vacations we might take and generally we love the people on a cruise.  I think this is a little like reading after cruise reviews. You read about someone's terrible experience on a cruise you were just on and had the time of your life.  Any you wonder were we really on the same ship?

We just started sailing with Royal and I also noticed they don't offer all that much to the repeat customers, even at diamond ++++ level.  You just another in the crowd.  I feel Norwegian offers better benefits to their repeat cruisers.  I thought it was just me.

That is true, NCL’s benefits for the equal loyalty level are really a great deal better in my opinion. Hubby and I recently been having an ongoing conversation about whether we should stick with our decision to remain primarily with RCCL. And loyalty rewards are definitely a part of the calculation (as are associated lines, typical cruise perks, variety of routes, etc.).  And honestly this Key issue is becoming a part of the calculation since we like the suites (but why is long-winded and another issue). We have two cruises currently booked with RCCL for 2019 and we really like rccl, but our conversation on this issue continues.

@Razerbkfan  check our my hometown airline, Delta - they have one of the few airline loyalty programs where the miles earned never expire. 👍🏼

@princevaliantus  so, where do I get one of these “little orphan annie decoder ring”? Does it come in a Captain Crunch box? 😬

@BB1  I have to say that I am not quite sure why you seem so very angry and dismissive of the opinion of others. The OP didn’t say something terrible, just their own opinion. I like this RCL blog board very much, but it is not to my knowledge a cheering section or a fan club for rccl but is rather a place for discussion (including ones that are at times negative about some aspect of rccl).  It is for real conversation with real opinions of new and veteran rccl customers. If that is not true, someone please correct me!  I see you had virtually no posts before the 4 out of the 5 you have made in this one thread rather condemning of posters for having any non-glowing opinions; but please note that those posters you are criticizing include people who have been around here a while and have made genuine and consistent efforts at helping others.

Your interpretation of my posts was incorrect.  I was not angry nor dismissive and everyone is entitled to their opinion.  If you look all the way back to the beginning of this thread you will see the original posts were angry and basically temper tantrums because the poster was  not let on the ship early and the first two posters definitively proclaimed they would go elsewhere. I guess when people say that, I assume they mean it.  I guess they don't. My question was, and I repeat, if someone is so unhappy with the cruise line, why do they keep coming back? In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, many of these perks will be taken away as the upper tier levels swell. People will keep complaining and maybe eventually go elsewhere but it's not going to be any different elsewhere because they're all on the same playing field. I just signed up for this blog so I don't have a long history but I have been cruising for years and I see these people with bad attitudes affecting other guests trips and I don't think that's fair. One last point.  I really don't see how anything I say can be construed as cheerleading.  I just think people refuse to face reality

I am a cruise nerd.. I am Diamond Plus with 326 points.. Here is what I am excited for.. at 340 points I get a meal with an officer.. I am praying I get this meal.. I want to pick that officer's brain like no other. So im just hoping they don't take that perk away before I get to 340 which I will be getting by Jan for my birthday cruise. Other than that I have no complaints.. I like that I get my nightly diamond drinks and I like getting 2 days of free internet. I don't really care about boarding quicker as I cant always make it to the port before 12 anyways due to work issues. I mean would I love it if they threw in a free meal at chops like how NCL does with Cagney's sure that would be great but because they don't that doesn't make me want to stop sailing with Royal. I think people are getting way to upset with this whole loyalty program. I cruise on Royal because I like their product. I love how innovative their ships are. I love the shows/entertainment on Royal, I love the casino, I love the Unlimited dining package, I love the solariums, and now I also love Coco Cay lol so I absolutely don't keep cruising with them because of their loyalty program to me thats just so silly. But hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if the OP is done with Royal because they cant get on the boat fast enough ok no problem more room for the rest of us.

As someone newer to cruising and still only Gold, the thought of loyalty perks is pretty foreign to me.

Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line I’ve personally sailed with, but at the end of the day after having heard hundreds of reviews and talking with friends and family who have sailed other cruise lines, Royal is the only one I’d want to give my money. Disney is too expensive and RC has an excellent experience-versus-cost ratio that fits perfectly for my family.

I’d never consider leaving one company over another due to loyalty rewards, my money and time is better spent seeking out the best bang for my buck and sticking with it for that reason.

I remember being one of the lucky ones who got invited to the Captain's table for dinner. Boy did I pick his brain with a thousand and one questions! Those were the days !!! You will love the meal with an officer. Just don't scare them away with all the questions like I did !!! 😂😂😂😂😂

This was one of our greatest disappointments after looking forward to it for so long.  Our meal was AWFUL and the officer (on our end of the table, anyway) was a very low ranking operations officer who knew little about anything except for the engine room.  We have not been back to another one since. If I were you, Stephanie, I would temper my expectations.

On the Symphony sailing I was the only 340+ point holder that signed up. Due to the lack of sign ups it was cancelled. The Loyalty Ambassador did offer lunch at any specialty restaurant instead.

Aww man this is unfortunate news. Ok well then I will have to lower my expectations greatly. Its too bad because I honestly it was the only "perk" I really was looking forward too. But it doesn't make me want to not cruise with Royal. Now the Casino program on the other hand that makes me pull my hair out sometimes lol.

Aww man. Well like you I always buy the Unlimited dining package so a free lunch doesn't help me. I really want to pick an officers brain lol.

So far the only one I've done, on Adventure, we had the Environmental Officer at our table. Was held in the MDR at a few tables for 12 or so. Each table an Officer or equivalent, example another table had the Music Director.

Still a perk, had one on Ovation last week.  This was an top elite heavy cruise with many D+ and P so the meal was in the MDR away from everyone else.  There were 10 tables each with 6-8 guests at them.  Choice of red or white wine that they kept pouring when my glass was 1/2 empty.  Our table had a Hotel Director.  Understand it's not a one-on-one lunch with an officer but shared with other 340+ guests which is usually kind of cool because they ask questions I haven't thought of.

Opposite my experience.  I've quite enjoyed them.  I've had meals from Chops, Jamie's or special items from the galley.  You may not always get the Captain at your table but every officer has something unique to contribute.

I've don't recall being asked to sign up.  I just get the card in my cabin stating the time and venue.

Sometimes you get lucky and sit right next to the Captain, sometimes you are at the other end of the table and it's a lower level officer but generally speaking most officers have been around a little while and there is always something I get out of them, if nothing else than a meal and as much wine as i can drink (in the middle of the day).

I also enjoy the free bridge tour, galley tour and entertainment tours.  You learn something different every time.

I've sailed a number of times now since The Key program has been available.  Only once have I purchased it when I did the review on the initial Key cruise on Oasis in November.

I've cruised six times without buying The Key as a D+ with the Key available for purchase.

I've experienced zero impact to my D+ benefits.

As far as I am concerned I am glad Royal has a developed a new source of revenue that doesn't require me to buy into it or have any impact to me.  This means they can keep the cost of cruising low for the rest of us without cutting service levels.  I have no problem with that.

The most impact was one sailing when Key guest were called to board after suites but before D+.  This "delayed" the D+ call by 47 seconds.  Yep, I boarded 47 seconds later that I would have otherwise.  No big deal.  No impact.

I agree with Matt!  I have looked up other cruise line's loyalty programs and found that Royal Caribbean's Diamond Lounge benefits with a social gathering and  free drinks each night is way better than what other cruise line's loyalty programs offer.

Also, why are people concerned if they have to wait for a while on a table at dinner? It's just like or usually much better than restaurants on land. My suggestion: relax,  you're on vacation,  have fun!!!

I agree with Twangster with regard to the "Meal with an Officer" as we have always had good food and good conversations, although, on a couple of occasions, we had an officer who obviously considered he/she had drawn the short straw.

Mostly we have found that just listening to the officer describe their duties and responsibilities was very instructive. Sometimes they also managed to enlighten us with useful insights into RCCL's plans and intentions (but not often).

In all cases we were asked to tick boxes on a card left in our stateroom as to which perks we wished to take advantage of - bridge tour, galley tour, entertainment tour, meal with an officer - and return the card to the loyalty ambassador by a certain day and time.

This is a great benefit and one I would miss if it were to be withdrawn in the future.

As others have said, I have seen no material impact on my C&A benefits since the introduction of The Key. Perhaps I have been fortunate so far. I will take particular note when we board Explorer next week of any meaningful delays to embarkation.

I know what you mean I am so unhappy with the new upgrade discounts on comps.

I know they have become really bad. It's such a frustrating system. I still like Royal but I have started to cruise on other lines as well just because I am not totally satisfied with the casino program.

@BB1 welcome to the boards. Glad you found us.

I feel the same as you, if people are unhappy with a cruise line, it is time to look elsewhere.

I have never had any quarrel with you and don’t know of any quarrel that you have with me, so I only wish to clarify - are you saying that anyone who has any negative comment or opinion about anything related to Royal should go elsewhere (cruise line and board wise)? I had really thought all honest, genuine opinions of those who sail once or often on RCCL were allowed and welcomed here. I do so hope that is the case, after all there are complaints in this thread and many others and often from very loyal Royal cruisers -  either way, I definitely want to know if it’s not.

I believe that if only certain people are allowed to make negative comments or if the entire point of a board is to amass kiss-up points then it ends up being of little value in the end. That would be a bad thing as RC Blog is a great resource. I am not much for doing things in a passive aggressive way or even trying to read between the lines; it is easier to just be honest and forthright. And also to be very clear I also welcome @bb1 here, but my comment was that It made sense to wonder why someone with almost no posts was so very worked up and critical of others (in the same way many long-term members have many times made comments on a poster’s low number of posts in response to their post without it being viewed negatively).

Everyone - We head out soon on the Grandeur and I am more than ready to get a respite from the madness my work has been in the last months. I am off to pack now! Happy Memorial Day to those who celebrate it. My father was in DDay and fought for the liberation of Europe, my sister served in Iraq twice as a battle field doctor, and my husband served for 30 years in the US Marine Corps. Needless to say our family has too often witnessed the many sacrifices made for freedom and we will never forget those who lost their lies and families who never quit missing them.

@2Beeze I simply meant that if OP or anyone else is unhappy with a cruise line, RCCL or any other line, they should consider looking at another cruise line.

As far as this thread goes, OP seems to have posted once and not come back and we have encountered posts like this before.  I will just leave it at that.

It is OK to re-evaluate your options.  Your priorities and preferences for an enjoyable vacation may change over time.  One should search for that cruise line that can accommodate your needs and wants.

My wife and I have sampled a few mass market cruise lines before becoming "loyal to Royal".  I know mega ships are not for everyone but the Oasis class blew us away.  Since then we have sailed Freedom class, Voyager class and even the "tiny" Empress.  We love them all.  We also like how Celebrity will status match your C&A tier when we choose to have a different type of cruise experience.

At the end of the day, it is impossible to make everyone happy.

Most of this thread is about perspective and where you have been and where you want to go. My wife and I came over from Carnival and have a whopping 5 points on RC. For the value RC has a better business model than Carnival but they do have drawbacks too. They are a for-profit-organization and that drives their many faceted decisions. They balance that with their business model to make shareholders happy as well as consumers; not an easy task.

I have noticed that if you have been around for many points you have seen things come and go and your perspective can be very different than a newbie like me. Cruising is still a very good way to spend vacation dollars as it has about everything you would want and don't have to do a lot of planning once you board the ship.  Some of my friends say they will never step foot on a cruise ship but they are also the ones that always ask me how it went when I come back.

You guys and gals spend a lot of money on annual cruises and at some point you want to have some perks for all your efforts - I get it as well as does RC, but in the end, their decisions will always be based on profit margins and that is something that can make some people upset and threaten to go cruise somewhere else.

As a newbie I will keep cruising for awhile until I get bored with it, if ever, and I will stick with RC until it doesn't make sense.  I'm 57 so all these perks won't matter too me much since I started so late and only take 1 cruise a year ☹️.

I have learned a lot from the members on RCBLOG and have saved myself countless time and research just based off of the groups discussions. For example - I just did a 5 day cruise on Indy out of Fort Lauderdale and the place I stayed the night before and where I went to eat (La Bamba), beaches at Costa Maya and Cozumel (Nachi Cocom) all came from conversations I have read on this Blog. Good stuff on this board!

I will try to clarify my point. There is nothing wrong with complaining.  There is nothing wrong with having different opinions. That is not what I'm talking about. Read the first post. It's someone ranting and carrying on like a child having a temper tantrum. Maybe others find this constructive and helpful but I don't see how it is. I see the irony in that if I address this, I am in a way just complaining about their complaining so I'm not sure how to handle it. I assume most people here are seasoned cruisers.  It would surprise me if they had not seen people verbally abusing staff and sometimes other cruisers for petty grievances. From what I've seen these tend to be the same people over and over. That's why ask " if you are so unhappy,  why don't you find something you enjoy more". My intention is to go on a cruise and enjoy myself. It's not to see people have melt downs because they weren't the first on the ship. People love to talk about the old days and how everything was so much better. I'm not sure how true that is but people did seem friendlier and nicer to one and other. That to me would improve everyone's cruise. That's just my opinion for whatever it's worth.

One other point. Everyone has grievances and what may seem petty to me might be a very big deal to someone else. I suggest you actually go to someone that can do something about it.
