Cruises are getting more expensive to spend FCC

Hi everyone,

It's my first post here, I'm just looking where to spend my FCC valid until Dec.2021, on a Caribbean Sea cruise, including flights from/to London UK and looks like we/costumers are going to pay their current business non sailing.

Me and my family were about to go on a Vision of the Seas, departing from San Juan  on 21st March  for a 7 day cruise calling 5 different ports, when this Covid19 developments forced us unfortunately to take advantage of the FCC the day before non-sailling order. Now we have to find another cruise WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO THE SAME TRIP COSTING SAME MONEY, to show some kind of commitment and respect for the clients.

The offers at the present are disappointing for me, not even the future cruises are looking so interesting due to low port calling, more days at the sea and the most of them going to the non interesting only Royal Caribbean CocoCay business, but also now are MORE EXPENSIVE.

For the most inattentive people, boring days at sea means you going to spend much more money inside the ship and you are not going to visit nice different places, CocoCay again is only good for their profits, because you are not going to spend your money elsewhere, this is 100% Royal Caribbean.

Does anyone knows about sales?

Cheers

We booked our next cruise through an agency that had group rates for 2021 secured pre-covid 19 and it was comparable to our current rate. There are deals out there you have to seek them out.

Also, airline rates are the same way. Much much higher for next year. Flights for the cruise we booked are astronomical right now so we’re waiting it out.

We all have to remember how unprecedented of a time this is, these companies are trying to stay afloat.  Many among us have lost their jobs and are facing uncertainty. Cruising is a luxury. I for one am looking forward to embarking again next year.  I am also very aware of how lucky we are to be in a situation that booking our future trips (even at an increased cost) is a concern right now.

The current sale just saved me $327 on my October Symphony that I just booked 3 weeks ago to replace my May Symphony that was cancelled. $2600 for an ocean view with large balcony is pretty darn good.

I took the 125% FCC. We had a JS on Symphony and I’m now looking at a FCC of about $6500! That FCC will now pay for my next Symphony AND almost 95% of my October 2021 Odyssey Italy/Greece. I’m super happy!

My advice is to wait it out. I think prices for next year are still rooted in a pricing model based on pre-coronavirus.

I think once cruises resume, there will be a break in price when demand is significantly less.

And to further what Matt said, most of the time (some casino rates which have to be paid in full not withstanding) cruises can be repriced when they come down. If you are worried about getting a different ship or sail date be sure to do a refundable deposit. It will cost more but comes with more flexibility.

Thanks everyone for the opinions so far and yes looks like it's better to wait until further reductions on packages Flight and Cruise, we hope to travel next March.

As I said before we were excited to be travelling on Vision of the Seas-Southern Caribbean but the future cruise options at the moment are few.

And about Royal Caribbean add new destinations on sailings for that time?

Totally correct. The cruise industry out of all the travel industries has taken the worst beating. Confidence is at rock bottom and higher prices will not encourage people back onto the ships.

I fear they are in for a tough couple of years and hope they can ride out the storm.

Most of my non cruising friends are shocked when I say I will cruise again next year.

Hey you ?. I have never understood why non-cruisers are often so negative about cruising. The comments I saw online in various places like YouTube vlogs you would have thought cruise lines were possibly spies for N. Korea and everyone who worked for one should be hung. It was truly ridiculous. I am just not sure about it’s origin.

We had an April 2020, 11 day cruise on Serenade of Seas booked in an Owner Suite. We had booked two years prior when the date first became available. We paid our cruise off 6 months before sailing with lots of add on’s.

Needless to say we were very disappointed when our cruise was cancelled. I looked to find a replacement cruise. Unfortunately in late 2020 early 2021 Serenade was moved and a Vision class ship has been moved in to do this itinerary. We much prefer Radiance class over Vision. We had booked our April cruise based on itinerary/cabin/ship/date so we were down to 3 out 4.  Unfortunately we found only 1 date that still had 1 owner suite still available. The price for that cruise would have have been $5k more even with a 125% FCC. If we had booked it then we’d have had to put cash down until FCC came though (heard that’s changed) I was not laying out any more money out and honestly OS on Vision class seemed very unimpressive. Even with 125% FCC we weren’t made whole so we requested our cash back. It’s been 30 days and still have not received.

I have November cruise On Rhaspody booked that I hope goes as planned. Final payment is in August which I won’t make until we are sure cruises are happening.

As one of the original suite snobs on this site, I cannot agree with you more.  It's not the rooms themselves that are the problem, it is the location.  I HATE being shoved all the way forward, directly beneath the Windjammer. We did this once (Grandeur) but never again.  I MUCH prefer to get a JS on a Vision class ship as they can be located midships and are much more convenient (and quiet).

I'm very sorry to hear that your Serenade cruise was cancelled.  I love the full suites on the Radiance class ships.  It's always disappointing to have your cruise cancelled, but made even worse when you cannot replace it for a reasonable cost and cabin.  The good news (since there is almost always SOME) is that your credit card will be smiling !!
