During our current cruise technicians added motion sensor lights that go on in low light/no light situations when motion is detected near them in the cabins.  They are located just outside the bathroom. It’s quite bright and stays on 20 seconds-longer if you are constantly moving near it.

pic of it off when the overhead light is on and on when overhead is off and you move near it

Is there a way to shut it off? It seems like it could either be very helpful or really annoying.

Nope

some reported to use the round magnet that’s on the doors day one  but idk how they did that as those magnets were removed on day one (the ones about staterooms and luggage or whatever it says)

i did try the rectangular “sleeping off the adventure” magnet but it would not stay on.

I agree it could be annoying!

Had this on Jewel in August/ September and it wasn’t that bad. Yes it goes on but it isn’t full cabin bright and it is better than stumbling in darkness to the bathroom on the ships that don’t have a nightlight in the bathroom

I'm on Radiance and they just installed it. Overall I don't like it, but it would be nice of you're in the room alone, but not so great if there are 2 in the room.

I'm going to experiment with bringing magnets to cover it.

Please post the "turn off" hack once someone comes up with one.  I hate lights at night so when hubby goes to the bathroom at night it would drive me crazy!  We are going to be on Jewel in December.

this might be a bit out of the box, but i have a weighted eye mask that i use and no light gets through 💚 highly recommend!

Why would they do that?  I don't even like when the bathroom light switch is on the outside of the door.  There is no reason my wife needs to wake up when I need to go to the bathroom in the night.

When I see changes like this I usually think “lawsuit”  or to mitigate injuries.  I don’t recall seeing outrage or discussion over a lack of motion sensor lights like we saw when there was a threat of “pay for pizza”.

Oh boy, not sure if I'm going to like that. On Symphony wenhad the night light included in the bathroom light, it was great no wakey wakey for Trisha when I get up early or in the middle of the night.

I'm thinking 4 magnet hooks and a cruise compass might cure that as long its LED, not incandescent 🔥 lol

We had it on Enchantment and it was great! As a drink package user I am often up throughout the night to go to the washroom, and it was a nice soft warm glow, not very bright, and helped me find my way without having to turn on the bright over heads or take my phone with me. I doubt it will wake anyone up, I mean maybe, but it was so dim in my room it just provided enough light so you could safely make your way. And it shuts off so quickly as well.

But for those who really need no windows and absolute darkness to sleep, maybe the cabin attend can assist, or like others are suggesting I'm sure someone will post a good way to cover the sensor.

My cabin on Jewel this week has one under the closet door. Pretty nice

Ditto.
But the ones I had on Grandeur and Navigator previously were like the one pictured and they were extremely annoying.  They really either need to be less bright like the ones on the Quantum and some Oasis class ships or have a way to turn them completely off.

As a PSA see below … I hope I was able to download the picture attached properly.
This “hack” worked perfectly on our current cruise. (We use the magnetic night lights which are PERFECT … 2-3 are more than enough).

Now you have no light, but no room service either.

Over the past few days, we have had:

1). No annoying “ball of fire” nightlight pulsating outside our bathroom door.
2). 3 linked WYZE nightlights creating a safe pathway to the bathroom and a discreet nightlight in the bathroom.  (The magnetic feature is one of its best ones).
3). A brilliant statement attendant who keeps our room clean, intact and safe without creating extra work for them or us.

Perfect harmony … and we are not even on that ship.

I hope this helps …
