  1. 18, 15 on Royal. 14 out of the 15 out of Galveston.
  2. Hopefully I'll still be alive at age 79 for this one. My house was in the path of totality for 4/8/24, but it was completely overcast.
  3. Your 1.75 number corresponds to a payout of about 88.6%. If the programmed payout is 85%, you're doing well!
  4. I looked at a list of trademarks here. Intrigue of the Seas: Will Royal Caribbean’s Next Ship Name Come From This List? | Cruzely.com My favorite for Oasis-class is Haven of the Seas.
  5. Royal Caribbean Group Reports Strong 2023 Results and Forecasts Record Earnings for 2024 (yahoo.com) They need to pay off some more debt first. In the meantime, you can get onboard credit every time you cruise if you own 100 or more shares. That's sort of like a dividend.
  6. The timeline fits, anyway. 2024 Utopia 2025 Star 2026 Icon 3 2027 Oasis 7 2028 Discovery 1
  7. Interesting email, thanks for posting. I've never sailed on Celebrity, but I would be more likely to if it would earn Crown and Anchor points on Royal. The status match between Royal and X is nice, but it would be nicer to earn points that counted on both. I would be all over a 2% cash back Visa card with extra benefits, otherwise pass.
  8. My date was just a guess based on how long it took to build Icon. It'll be done "when it's done".
  9. Me too, since Icon 3 probably won't be ready until that summer or fall. They would need a stopgap ship (Allure).
  10. Please post more about the food! Going on a world cruise is number one on my bucket list and I'd love to know more about the food and entertainment.
  11. It has to do with width. A widened Panama Canal will accommodate bigger cruise ships: Travel Weekly
  12. The maximum weight of a Panamax ship is only 52,500 "deadweight" tons. I think Discovery-class will be a Neo-Panamax ship, which can fit into the new locks. To get to the canal, ships must pass under three bridges, which will constrain height. The design should include providing for sailing to and from Tampa, Baltimore, and other ports that have low bridges. They will also take the width of the ship into account. The lifeboats on the Discovery can't obstruct the ship from getting into the lock. Discovery should be, therefore, a little smaller than Voyager-class and shaped a little differently. Panamax - Wikipedia
  13. Who wrote that? Bayley or Scott's TA? Seems like they should put a LNG-powered ship in Galveston, either an Icon-class or Utopia, not Wonder. I would take that hint with many grains of salt. Edit: Elizabeth Wright's blog post: Did Royal Caribbean's CEO hint Wonder of the Seas could be deployed to Galveston? | Royal Caribbean Blog
  14. The first steel was cut today for Icon 3 (1-12-24). The first steel was cut for Star of the Seas on 2-14-23, her first voyage was announced on 12-6-23, and her first voyage is set for 8-17-25, 2 years and six months after steel cutting. So, if the same amount of time was taken to build Icon 3, her first voyage would not be until July of '26. I think we'll know more when the schedule for Summer '26 comes out. I think 2026 will be a good time to check out MSC. Their prices are competitive.
  15. It could happen. Carnival has their newest ship in Galveston, and NCL and Princess have a presence. Plus, MSC is likely going to start sailing out of Galveston around that time. Maybe Royal will see a need to put one of their big guns in Galveston to compete. Time will tell.
  16. I would guess that Discovery-class ships will run on LNG. There's plenty of time to finalize the plans, since they need to build Star, Utopia, and Icon 3 first. The article suggested that they could order the first ship this year. From ordering to delivery, the first Oasis-class ship took almost four years, and the first Icon-class ship took more than seven. Subtracting time for the global pandemic, if the first Discovery-class ship was ordered this year, then it might be 2028 before it was delivered. This fits well with the delivery of Icon 3.
  17. A Royal Caribbean world cruise is definitely #1 on my bucket list. On a Discovery-class ship, not one of the older rust buckets. Seven cruises in a year would be great, but I cannot afford the vacation time or money right now. Someday......
  18. I held, but since I only have shares to get OBC, I'm not ever selling unless they stop the benefit. Honestly, I don't even watch the stock market since I only own three stocks: 100 shares of RCL and CCL, plus my employer. My cost basis is $76.31, pretty high compared to some, but again I don't care.
  19. Also, someone mentioned that drink cards have come back. This is a card you buy at the bar good for 10 drinks, and I think they were less than $100. You might go a la carte until they start selling drink cards, then buy one then.
  20. You can also choose longer cruises. Mrs. Cake made Diamond with no suites in 8 cruises by taking two transatlantic cruises and sailing solo once (her friend was in another cabin).
  21. On other class ships, there might even be none. On one cruise I took this year, there was none, either on Radiance or Voyager, I forget which ship.
