Sea-ing Stars - Allure OTS April 23 - 30, 2023

The non-smoking side of the big casino was not bad. We tried our luck for a bit in there and then wandered over to the non-smoking casino. It was pretty packed. Machines are spread out quite a bit. No pics yet  I'm down $30 ish. We won't talk about DH. We were on the wrong side of the ship, so we went up to deck 8 to cross through central Park. While there we found a glass of wine at Vintages. They were pretty empty - one family was in there besides us.

Good news! We got back to the room and there was no new food!

Ummm…what ?  What is it you do, again ?  🤔😵

There's a perfectly good explanation! Cake has never been my favorite dessert. As a kid I would take ice cream over cake any day. When I first started my business, I tested about 15 different vanilla cake recipes to find "the one". Repeat for 14 flavors of cake, and you don't really eat cake anymore. 😆

the pics make the food look underwhelming.

That's probably more due to the skill of the photographer 🙃 It was pretty tasty. We don't really have lunches scheduled anywhere. So we may go back again. With the UDP, I would at least give it a shot for lunch one day.

Partly cloudy and windy today. We definitely feel a bit of rocking.

We had Starbucks delivered this morning,  but they got DD's order wrong. She's a super taster and can easily pick out the bitter flavors in food. We ordered her a pistachio cream Frappuccino, which is not supposed to have any coffee in it. They brought her the version with espresso so she was done after a sip. I tried it, and thought it was delicious, but her taste buds disagreed.

Breakfast at CK - sorry, no photos. I got the frittata, DH got the Baja eggs, kids got eggs and pancakes.

DS has gone to Adventure Ocean, and DD is going to the teen club at 10am. The Search for the Nations kick off is at 10:40, and DS wants to participate after I told him about @jbrinkm's experience, so he's meeting us at the Schooner Bar then.

I think we'll just do Park Cafe and Sorrento's for lunch. Bridge tour this afternoon.

Only after they got rid of my favorite - the french cruller.

They got rid of those? They were a HUGE seller on the Saturday and Sunday mornings i worked there! 🤪 The bakers always made extra of those on the weekends, and we sometimes still sold out of those. Dumb move!

It is a hit and miss.  I used to only find them in New England.  Now I can't find them at all. When I asked, I was told it can be a hit or miss.  Oh well.   I can't blame those donuts for my weight gain.

DS met us at Schooner to get our search the nation's sheet. Smitha tracked us down and signed our sheet. She also told Caleb she would help get signatures at the end of the week if he needed them. #spoiledrotten

We went to Park Cafe and each got a roast beef sandwich. DH had two and I also got the portobello pesto sandwich. The roast beef was just me. The portobello was delicious though. DS didn't care for his, so we did run down to Sorrento's so he could get a couple slices of cheese which is always a winner. Since we were there, we ran across the way to Cafe Promenade to get dessert to eat on the balcony. We got back to the room, and fortunately, no new food had been delivered. We also have our first towel animal. We enjoyed our desserts outside and the Sexiest Man Contest was about to start in the Aqua Theater. I ducked back into the cabin to get drinks for everyone and heard the doorbell ringing...yep, snacks and drinks. We all came inside too full to eat again, but we did anyway.

We had a few minutes to relax before the bridge tour where DS got a few more signatures.

He went back to AO for an hour, and the rest of us are resting and getting ready for formal night. Smitha has really had to shuffle some things around. When they cancelled Mamma Mia, they shifted a couple shows.  Tonight is Oceanaria and Finis Henderson.

I think the ATS balcony is supposed to make up for their subpar bathrooms!😁

I was going to mention the bathrooms earlier but decided not to stir that pot.  Glad that you have no such qualms, @SweetPea !  😂🥰

That is partially what always holds me back....But we booked it for SY in 2025.

With you right there! We knew the bathrooms aren't up to par in the ATS, but after watching 1432.8 stateroom videos, hubs opted for deck 8 ATS on Symphony over Star Loft next year. 😍🥰😆

Remind me, @melmar02 - have you stayed in the ATS before ?  Sorry.  I can’t remember.

No, this is our first O class ship, but we have always stayed in the 2br suite on the other classes we have sailed with the kids, so we knew about the bathroom situation already.

DH and I have only sailed in a JS without the kids, so we don't really know better. 😆

The bathrooms are horrible. My 6 ft 2 son couldn’t, height wise, fit in the master bathroom tub/shower. The furniture is outdated. That all said, we love the 8th floor two bedroom aqua suite. Plenty of room, and the balcony makes up for the silly bathrooms. We would have breakfast out there each morning. Love it so much, we are booked on Harmony next January.

I'm alive and well y'all! We're busy, constantly full, and having a lot of fun, but this live blog has definitely turned into a cruise review. I'll post all the details when we get home.

Current situation...

Can't wait!!

Did you dock in Costa Maya?

We started looking in the stores that had doors open   on both sides and cut through.  That eliminates a bit of the maze.

The maze is purposeful to encourage shopping and incredibly frustrating for those who want to quickly get to Taxi station.

Lately my family has been doing ‘Mahahual on your own’

This excursion starts with a self guided southerly swim from pier to town and avoids all the port shops.

I give it 5 stars, my wife and kids gave it 1.
