What would you want to see on a new MDR menu?

Recommended Posts

I would really enjoy the return of the small nugget seeded rolls and the regular pumpkin seeded rolls.  Also, the nightly offering of the cold soup option.  Why these were eliminated,  I don't know.   I cruise often, many of the old time cruisers consistently request these.

Something local to the region you're sailing! I still feel sad that there was no key lime pie when we stopped at Key West! Or meatballs when in Sweden....

I would like to see more Asian dishes added (like Pad Thai, curry, etc).  I know some of it can be requested on the side, but it would be nice to have it formally on the menu.  This can also cover lot

Y'know what I'd actually love to see added? Cajun / Creole dishes! What I wouldn't give for a good bowl of shrimp / crawfish etoufée and dirty rice!

Breakfast items besides eggs or pancakes/French toast.

I've always enjoyed many of the non-traditional items on the WJ breakfast buffet, like curries and such. We've never eaten breakfast in the MDR for the simple reason that the menu has the usual breakfast items and is pretty boring in my opinion. Since the MDR isn't nearly as busy during breakfast as dinner, maybe they would have the time to change things up and do more made to order items. You can add a variety of benedicts and omelets to the menu. You have a million ingredients in the galley, why not use more than 4 or 5 of them?

I USED to enjoy those, but on our last two cruises such food was nowhere to be found. The closest thing to "variety" was when they changed up what they added to some of the scrambled eggs (mushrooms today, onions tomorrow).

Which is exactly why the breakfast is so disappointing in recent years.

They should bring bake Baked Alaska! I want to pretend it's 1979 and I'm on an episode of The Love Boat!

This is where I took my moniker from, not the fact that they legalized weed (in Alaska).

We had Baked Alaska on our SS Norway sailing at the Captain's table. Very memorable.

Either way, that would be better than naming yourself after the internet personality of the same name!

I would love to see a "sampler" size or 1/2 portion option - you know for when you want to try 3 or 4 entrees, but you've been hanging out at the Windjammer all afternoon.

YES!  I am never able to finish my meal.  I just can't eat that much without feeling bloated and sick!  I love trying all the new foods though.  Sampler portions would be great!

I just hope they keep the French Onion soup.  I ate that everyday on our last cruise.  Loved that stuff!

See, now last time I had it, I found it awful -- and I love French Onion Soup!  I really like the mushroom soup, though, and count me in as someone who would love the chilled soups back

My kids love the French Onion soup, but alot of times the temperature of the soup is way too hot and they end up adding an ice cube to cool is off. The other soups are never  that hot. Also, the chilled soups were my favorite, they usually remind me of melted ice cream or a smoothie. The strawberry was my favorite.

I also miss the 3 salad dressings the assistant waiter came to your table with each night, so you could have as little or as much as liked on your salad. Each night was 3 new dressings

I really wish they would go back to rotating the bread options nightly.  You used to get a whole new option of warm (I won’t say they were hot...they rarely were) breads to select from every night.  Then they went to the same few standards every night and then finally, you were stuck with whatever selection of bread they put on your table every night.  That was about the time we stopped eating in the MDR - ever.

Omlettes are eggs, but you can get them made anyway you want.  Waffles, cereals (hot n cold)  and pastries are also options.  In my opinion, I would agree that a "brunch" menu isn't available, but that's addressed in the Windjammer.   There are times I have the feeling the lines would like to further reduce the MDR sit-down options (but now with health safety protocols, the MDR may end up with expanded service because it can be better controlled)
