Club Royal certificates ...worthless

Recommended Posts

I am a premier member of Club Royale. Many of my cruises have been heavily discounted due to the amount I have spent on board at the casino.

My hubby and I love the Translantic and back to back. Both can get quite costly. The way we have seem much if the world has been with the help of these certificates. Two of our cruises have been cancelled. Both of these cruises had money off due to these earned certificates. $1300 in all.  I asked to move the credits to other cruises we already have booked next year. The answer was no exceptions they are expired. Well of course they are ,you cxd the cruises they could be used on.  Im sorry ...I so love cruising with Royal but this is not taking care of those who are good repeat customers, anyone else have this issue.  What can we do about it.

To start on the positive side, I hope they make some modification for you do to the situation we all are in!  Good Luck!

On the flip side, many who post here aren't fond of the negative words spoke about our beloved RCCL.   I on the other hand feel it's OK.

I like transatlantic sailings as well but because they tend much cheaper per night compared to regular season cruises.  They are a bargain really.  I wish i could jump on more but that will have to wait until retirement.

I guess as the company struggles just to survive and deal with refunds and such they can't go the extra mile, above and beyond the call.

While the cruises were cancelled, they were cancelled because they legally had to cancel them, it wasn't their choice to cancel the cruises, they weren't allowed to sail.  I am sure they would have preferred to sail but that was not an option they could choose to do.

At some point the company needs to stop bleeding cash with zero revenue.  As it looks to restart the first two years after restart will be critical to keeping the company viable and floating at all.  There is a long list of people using up FCC through 2022 meaning it's going to be a while before any cruise after restart actually operates in the black.

Unfortunately it appears that means they need to stick to the original terms of some discount programs like the casino certificates.  I think they should halt stocker holder OBC as well.

Just out of curiosity and not meant to be snarky at all.....if you did not gamble at all, could that money spent in the casino be used towards the cruises you want to take? I have no idea how much money people gamble with since I’m a “$20 in the slots once on a cruise” kind of girl.

It could but one of the reasons I like cruising is because I like gambling and I assume most serious gamblers who are in Club Royale feel the way I do.. We feel since we spend thousands in the casino we deserve to be comped accordingly.. For me personally the main reason I cruise is so I can gamble I would never go on a cruise without a casino.. So I wouldn't want to take the 1300 and put it down on a cruise then I would be bored on the cruise because I couldn't gamble..

I will admit I am one of those people who tell the harsh truth in situations. I cannot understand blaming a company for being a company...especially in times like these. It is never about being a diehard fan but pointing out first world problems. That being said, I don't agree with not honoring Casino comps. I am not a gambler but if you have a program design to reward those who frequent the casino, it should be honored. If RCCI is willing to give refunds and 25% extra FCC for cancelled cruises, it should have at least extended a percentage of the casino certificates. Maybe work with that department to offer something in exchange. It takes a lot of time and money to earn those comps, they didn't expire.

I feel the same way. Royal is not being loyal to patrons. But I will tell you I was attacked for saying the same in another topic

I don't think they aren't being loyal at all. I think they are being realistic given the company is hemorrhaging money on a daily basis.

The freebies you got were given away in a vastly different economic situation, and I believe once cruising begins again, the casino will be more than open to welcoming you back with new offers. But I think expecting them to continue to mortgage their future to offer free cruises on sailings that may or may not happen right now is a reach.

I respect your opinion Matt but the thing is the Casino IS giving away freebees now on cruises that might not happen.. They send me offers weekly right now to book cruises Sept-Dec any cruise I want except Christmas or New Years.. Then they send offers for Jan and Feb totally Free.. Now I am grateful and I have booked a few of these offers But your point doesn't make sense because you said you can't expect them to offer freebees in this time and yet they are. So if they are willing to send out free ones why cant the honor the ones people lost.. I totally would agree with you if they weren't sending any offers right now and said you know what we are hemorrhaging money we will wait and see but they aren't I got like 5 offers to choose from and that's because they want my taxes and fees money and any upgrade money I am willing to give which is fine I like having cruises on the books but I still think if they can offer free ones now they can honor the other ones..

One thought is that by offering new deals on future cruises they can manage the number of discounts or freebies going forward.

The past discounts offered were targeted, offered or allowed to manage the effect spread across the fleet in a controlled fashion.   Ships operate as autonomous business units each responsible for revenue goals.   By negating past offers it avoids having several hundred past discounts all land on a few specific choice or desirable future sailings thereby making those particular sailings operate outside of norms while other ships have little or no effect from them.

By managing and offering new discounts they can manage and spread the load in a more controlled fashion to suit current needs.

The good news is that they are offering new casino discounts so not all is lost.

I think there are 2 different branches to this discussion.  The OP was disappointed that discount certificates earned onboard couldn't be transferred after their expiration. Other benefits, such as the annual free cruise for Club Royale status, are being reinstated and extended through March 2022.  I believe the original concern was more in line with not being able to transfer a cruise planner purchase that was secured at a great price.

Because they were just that: freebies. Unlike a cruise you paid for, these specific sailings were listed as available for no cost. That's not to say there wont be others in the future, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect a free sailing to be transferable. If it were the case, the casino would offer any sailing for free, instead of specific sailings.

With you 100% on this! For me (not my wife) there is not a chance I am taking a cruise without a casino. Certainly you could apply the logic of “if you just took the $ you were going to gamble and applied it to your cruise you would get your discount” but that’s no fun to me. Personally I enjoy the casino action (not so much the smoke) with a comped Red Stripe in hand at night. My wife & kids like to sit by the pool but I like to gamble. If you factor in the Casino Royale comps and the chance to win a significant amount of money in the casino IMHO I will always roll the dice. I understand it’s a difficult concept for most to basically set your money on fire but I also enjoy getting a Loft Suite for the price of what many non casino players get for a balcony cabin!

A few points, yes you can take unused yearly certificates and they are extended.  Just booked one of my daughter's today.

Also, the limit the number of casino offers on a specific cruise so they keep the percent of "free casino" cabins down to a certain number.  So giving back the certificates will not overwhelm any certain cruise.

Not all of these offers are free cruises.  Some people simply get money off or a $ amount you can apply to any cruise.  Why shouldn't we be able to lift and shift for these?  In our case there are usually two to three cabins involved and we pay money towards the cruise because we have munchkins that love to cruise.

We did manage to get things worked out with our casino host so that the kids get to do a their summer cruise vacation in August with dad but I will staying home for it.  And they better sail in August so I get my 9 night alone, lol.  We shifted our couples cruise to late August and I look forward to that.

Also, when you can go and the flexibility they give goes up with your casino status.  Now that hubby is master they rarely say no to him when booking something.  His host really tries to make it work for our family.  That said we have 3 gambler out of 5 people, hubby master and daughter and I signature.

I’m in no way looking for a freebie. I’m only asking that they allow me to use the base gates that I paid for for myself or other family members who are still willing to cruise, instead of “sticking to their rules” when those two fares were for two women over 70 who have been advised by their doctors that they will not clear them to ever cruise again.  No freebies here for anyone except RCCL
