Arrival:

It's about a 1.5 hour drive for us to get to Port Everglades from our home.  I was somewhat concerned about our morning commute as it was Monday morning but my worries were unwarranted.  Some traffic, but still arrived at PE before 9:30.

Port Everglades, Terminal 18.

Since pax were still disembarking, the parking lot which we normally use (Lot A) was closed.  We were directed to Parking Lot B which was a bit confusing but after a couple of loops around the terminal we finally found it.....and of course, the gates were still closed on it, too....so we just parked in front of the closed gates and patiently waited for one of the attendants to notice us.  Maybe 5 minutes later one of the attendants opened the gates and let us in.  We were able to park very close to the terminal so our return should be very easy.

At PE you get a ticket when you enter the parking lot and pay when you leave.

We waited outside of the terminal for just a few minutes.  We were first in the Suites/Pinn line and very quickly we were let in to go through security and up the escalators to the Suites/Pinns waiting area.  Very comfortable and convenient. The wait to begin boarding was short.  All-in, we were onboard by 10:45.

We were able to complete our safety drill info prior to boarding so all that was left was the muster station check-in.

On Board Day 1

The muster station check-in process was a bit disappointing.  On all of the other ships we have boarded since the restart, they had the muster bubbas ready and waiting to do the check-in from the time they started boarding.  On LIB they didn't start the muster station check-in until noon.  UGH. This really messed with our Day 1 process.

Dan and I are both Engineers so our mantra is to strongly adhere to the "3 P's".  Process, Process, Process.  🤪

Our process is:

1.  Arrive early.  We like to be at the port between 9-9:30

2.  Complete the safety info at the terminal, prior to boarding

3.  Get on the ship as soon as possible

4.  Complete the muster check-in

5.  Confirm/finalize whatever dining reservations are still pending

6.  Get a drink 🤩

7.  Sneak into our hallway and grab the room keys off the wall

8.  Go to the Suites Lounge (or Crown Lounge, if we are barred from the SL....(which hasn't happened yet, BTW)) and relax until time for lunch

9.  Go to lunch at whichever specialty restaurant we have pre-arranged

10.  Go to our room and begin to settle in

Random chaos begins at this point.

Having been thrown a fast ball with the muster check-in,  we had to modify the process...not an easy thing for us.  We skipped #4 and randomly wove that one in somewhere around 8 and 9.

The Ship

A couple of things jumped out at us about the ship.  Obviously LIB has not yet undergone any form of amplification.

The Windjammer does not have any washy-washy sinks.  I had forgotten what the entrance to the WJ used to look like. All that dark wood will eventually (presumably) be replaced with sinks, drains and trash cans. For now, only a poor server trying to squirt everyone's hands as they enter.

Also, the sign leading into the WJ is still advertising Jade, which I have not seen in a VERY long time.  Since we did not proceed into the actual WJ I have no idea if there actually IS a Jade still there, but the name/sign is still on the wall.

I heard someone say that LIB does not have any soda machines (forget what they are called).  Of course, those with beverage packages can still get drinks with no problem, but the auto dispensers are apparently not on this ship.

Despite the fact that LIB has not undergone an amplification, she ship is in very good condition, IMO.  The furniture is dated, of course, but that goes for all of the "older" ships so it's nothing particularly concerning.  Our room (JS on the "hump") is very comfortable and convenient.

Everything seems to be working well.  Elevators are in good condition.  She looks good

My boarding day JOY !!!

YIPPEE !!!!  I scored a Royal Flush on Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em on the first night !  This is only the second time I have ever had one.  Dan has NEVER had one.   According to the internet (must be true, then) the odds of getting a RF on UTH is 649,739-to-1.  Here's the truly interesting part.  The LAST time I had a RF in UTH was ALSO on LIB a few years back !  I guess this must be my lucky ship !

The payout on this baby was ~$5500.  I was playing minimum bets.

I have a photo which I will try and upload.  I am having trouble toggling between browser windows so I will try later.  Yippee !!  Here it is.

Pax

There are more children on this cruise than I would have thought, with it being a Mon-Fri sailing....but it isn't a problem for us.  I guess kids just don't go to school anymore.  😔

There are 15 Pinns onboard.  I asked the Suites Concierge (Jayson) so there is no problem with our going into the SL.  As I mentioned above, we have yet to be barred from the SL on any sailing since we made Pinn.  I know that this streak is going to come to a brutal end very soon.  We are sailing on Oasis in March.  Longer sailing - 7 nights - and O class ship, which attracts the Pinns.

We don't have a chance.

I'm excited for this one since Liberty is our next one and I haven't sailed her before. Looking forward to your take on it. Glad to hear she looks good so far.  I love the process, unfortunately we have yet to get to the port before noonish so our process is a little more consolidated.

I went to Guest Services this morning to get a copy of the list of [management] officers currently onboard but they didn't have one handy.  He told me he would have a copy sent to my room so hopefully the next time I am here in the "Royal Caribbean Online" area (Deck 8 right by the aft elevators) I will be able to post that information.

We used to get that paper routinely in our room but recently they have not been delivering that but you can usually get it at GS.

Just an FYI, the Loyalty Ambassador is co-located with the Royal Caribbean Online space so it was convenient for me to saunter over to her desk this morning and see if our name is on the list for a crystal block.  It is !  YIPPEE !  We will get a crystal block (770 points.  We'll actually have 774 when we disembark) on this cruise.  Liberty will be a duplicate for us but we don't care.  Interesting tidbit - we still have not received any of the "new" color crystal blocks.  Maybe this one will be one of the new ones.

We are still due a Grandeur block from several months back (supposed to be coming in the mail.  I'm not holding my breath).  That would make #3 for Grandeur for us.  I have a bad feeling that this block has fallen through the cracks.  Since we already have 2 Grandeur blocks I'm not going to stress over getting it.  If it comes, fine.  If not.  Oh well...  I guess that Grandeur block would actually be #4 for us since we recently traded one of our Grandeur blocks for a Jewel block.  I guess we were on Grandeur more often than I remember when we were still in VA !

Couple of tidbits I missed in earlier posts…

Cunard’s Queen Victoria was in port at Port Everglades the day we boarded.  Not sure I’ve seen a Cunard vessel in port before.  Not overtly impressive ship but very unique for sure.

LIB still has complimentary spa access.  Dan loves to visit the steam room and sauna.  Many ships have removed these spaces OR they have them but they are not complimentary. Enjoy them while you can !

LIB still has the full service Sabor restaurant.  I am fairly confident that once she goes for amplification (whatever that means these days) they will remove this venue, which is a shame IMO.  I know I am in the minority here, but I have always loved THIS Sabor.  The fast food version on Allure truly sucks but this full service version has never disappointed.  We ate there last night (BOGO) and it’s still good !  It’s not a super awesome Mexican restaurant but at least it’s something different.  I left stuffed.  The margaritas were tasty !  I have no use whatsoever for either El Loco Fresh or Playmakers (sorry to the fans of those venues) and I feel sure that Sabor will morph into one or both of those venues upon amplification.  I will mourn.

Shows

We went to the ice show last night.  It was very good.  I’ve never really been to a bad ice show.  They are all pretty similar.  We enjoyed it.

BUT - I was very surprised that they were NOT monitoring the reserved seating area at all.  We got there plenty early so it wasn’t a problem for us, but if you are eligible for reserved seating, I would recommend NOT waiting until the last minute to arrive.  That section filled up very quickly and without any kind of monitoring I’m confident that late-comers would not have found a seat in their reserved area.  It was very disappointing.

I was surprised that LIB had the old Promenade parade.  I assumed that on a 4 night cruise they would not be doing the parade, but I was wrong.  Even more surprising, it was held on day 1 !  So, we missed it.  If you are on LIB and want to see the Promenade parade, be sure you know when it will be held !

We are going to see Saturday Night Fever tonight and there is another show on the last day (forgotten what it’s called).  We always skip the singers, comedians, jugglers, etc.  I’ll let you know how the rest of the shows we attend, go.

I go on Liberty April 15th with a friend. Looking forward to your thoughts. Just got off Indy last week so same set up and loved Sabor.  Glad to see access is allowed.  I have found on non O ships its pretty good access.  I am travelling with a Dplus so wont be inthe lounge but can enjoy it in the morning for a quick bite.

Today is our only sea day.  Really, it's just a barely-moving-going-in-circles day...just waiting for our final day which will be PDCC.

I returned to Guest Services to ask for the list of ship managers - again.  The fella that helped me yesterday (and said the paper would be delivered to my room) apologized and informed me that the list is currently being updated due to new Cap and Hotel Director...but that I WOULD get that paper before the end of the cruise.  So hopefully that info will be forthcoming.

Very confusing info regarding Luggage Valet.  I THOUGHT I had read that LV was back at PE.  Maybe I am confused (not hard to do).

So I asked Jayson (Suites Concierge) if LV was still complimentary for suite guests.  He said that LV was NOT back and that it had never been complimentary for suite guests.  Of course, I know that is wrong...we used to use it (for free) all the time back before the plague.

So I am more confused than ever....but my instinct is telling me that even if LV IS back it will not be complimentary for ANYone anymore.

Stand by for clarification, if I can get any.

Forgot to mention....last night in the main theater (Saturday Night Fever) they WERE monitoring the reserved section.  Happy to see that.  I would estimate that the theater was probably 1/2 to 3/4 full.  They eventually released the reserved area seating (which is standard protocol) about 10 minutes before showtime and eventually it got pretty crowded.

LV was back last month when we sailed OY out of Port Everglades. It was not complimentary for anyone, not suites, not even for Star.

We follow one of the female leads (and apparently does everything else on the ship, as well) from Saturday night fever on Instagram. It's fun to see the occasional rehearsal and see what goes on behind the scenes. Apparently there have been a lot of injuries to the  cast in the past few weeks and a lot of fill ins and understudies have been getting some stage time.

That might explain the lead weakness….thanks for that

Congrats on your Royal Flush! Amazing!

And i get the whole process thing, to a tee! We're in Operations and there is a MOP (Method of Procedure) for everything. Miss one step and the whole thing falls apart. The universe is upside down.

Enjoying your tidbits. Have a great last day aboard tmw!

Couple of shorty comments

The internet has been exceptional on LIB on this cruise.  Having said that, note:

1.  We are midship and not waaay out on any extreme end of the ship

2.  We have not strayed far from the coast of FL

3.  Our weather has been good

Something unique (for us, anyway) happened to us last night at dinner.  It was our first meal in the MDR on this cruise, having utilized our BOGO in specialties the first 2 nights.  We have MTD 7:00 rez.  When we got to the dining room the line was LONG - all the way past the elevators.  Ugh.  We hit the back of the line with everyone else.  It looked like line was starting to ,move - a good sign.  Suddenly a Maitr’d came up to us and asked us to follow him.  He took us around that long line, directly to the check-in kiosk…we probably bypassed at least 50-75 people in front of us.  He told us that we are to never stand in line and to proceed directly to the kiosk for priority seating.  I guess it pays to wear your Pinn planks to dinner.

Now….I would never actually do that on my own.  Being escorted is one thing - heading to the front of the line on my own ?  Negative.

I did notice a sign that I had missed earlier that directed Suite guests to a separate line so it seems like LIB has a unique policy for handling Suites and Pinns.  This used to be the way the ships handled MTD but I haven’t seen it used in a long time.

At any rate, it was a nice surprise.

I saw this on mariner,  was told D+ has priority as well. But I would feel weird using my status like that. If they ask or offer it's a totally different thing.

How has the food been? I was looking at LIB for a sailing in 2025.....but the limited food options worry me.

The food has been ok.   The service seems to be a bit slow but we’re kinda used to that.  As I reported earlier, the dinner at Sabor was some of the best we have had on board a ship in a very long time.  Night #2 was Giovanni’s and it was good.  I almost always have the Chicken Picatta (sp ?) and it was good, as always.  Last  night was Italian night and I had the Chicken Parm.  It was ok but not great.  Dan had some kind of curried lamb.  Ugh.  No thanks but he loved it.  I think tonite is French night.  We have not set foot into the WJ any further than to get to Chops for breakfast in the morning. We aren’t picky eaters so we can always find something.  You’re right though….very limited options.

I was wrong about tonite’s menu.  It’s Caribbean night….one of my least favorite menus.  I was brave and tried the jerk pork chop.  Never again.  I’m not a huge fan of jerk anyway but aside from that, the meat was basically inedible - full of fat and gristle.  <shudde>.

Aside from my extremely good luck in the casino the first night, my subsequent luck has been abysmal.  I will go home with $4k but I should definitely have just stopped when I won the first time and called it a day.  Frankly, big gambling at this point in the casino year is a complete waste of time and money since the points are going bye-bye at the end of March and there is -0- chance that will reach Signature before then.

so I'm new to the casino royale program and have a question.  I went on a cruise late last year and got about 1900 points on that cruise.  I was given a free cruise certificate which I am using Mar 1.  My expectation is I will get the 600 points needed to reach prime on that cruise.  I know the point reset April 1, so while my points reset to 0 then, will i still be considered prime from the point on the cruise on Mar 1 I reach 2500 and then all of next year as well?  And then how exactly does the free cruise for being prime work?  Can I book that free cruise on any cruise within the year, or is it from a list of select cruises like the one I got for the March cruise?  Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide.

Quick review of the theater production “In The Air”.  It was good.  There were parts of it that were extraordinary - the featured aerialists were really, really good.  The Latin dancers (also featured in Saturday Night Fever) were really good.  The other aerialists, gymnasts and acrobatics were good.  The singing and music was average and the lighting was awful.  Had the performers had adequate lighting and visual effects the show would have been much, much better.  It was really something you would expect to see on an Oasis class ship - probably in the Aqua Theater.  It’s definitely worth the effort to go and see.

Yes.  If you reach 2500 points by 3-31-24 you will be Prime until 3-31-25 and will be eligible for the annual Prime comp cruise.  There are certain restrictions on what you can book for your annual cruise but basically any Caribbean 7 nights or less before 3-31-25.  I may be wrong about it needing to be a Caribbean cruise.  Alaska might be eligible.  I just can’t remember.  Certain holidays and I believe some summer dates are excluded and the ship must have been actively sailing for at least 1 full year for it to be eligible.

Your points reset but you will have status until March 31st of 2025. Your free annual cruise will be available to take from April of 2024 to March of 2025. It can be any sailing up to 7n, you can't pay te difference for a 8n or higher, on a ship that has been sailing over a year. There may be a few other restrictions. But keep on mind you will also get some monthly offers.

6:15 and waiting at the Schooner for Jayson to escort us out. He said he expected us to be departing by 6:30.  That would be awesome. We would be home by 8:00.

Made 1 final stop by Guest Services to pick up the list of ship Officers.  Still hasn’t been updated.  So…I tried.  Sorry.

This has been a good cruise, even if short.  The weather was soooo much better than it has been for our past few cruises.  Nice, smooth seas.  No rain.  Lots of sunshine. Mild temps.

They really seem to be moderating the GenPop disembarkation line.  Sometimes that is a free-for-all.  They’re keeping everyone in a line and directing them to the right place.  Hopefully we will be moving soon. Here we go !

Quick addendum to disembarkation since I had to rush off….which was a good thing !

Today’s disembarkation was, by far, the best we have ever experienced.  At 6:30 on the DOT, Jayson, the Suites Concierge, led us out a side door behind the Schooner Bar - yet another means of exit which we had not seen before.  This was genius.  #1, it entirely avoided the GenPop crowd. #2 We were out and gone before they even allowed the GenPop line to exit to the outside Promenade, where Security scans your Seapass card to get off the ship.  Sooooo many times they try and move us past the already chaotic GenPop “line” (which it rarely is).  This causes nothing but confusion and dissension.  This process, which we LOVED, got us out, unnoticed; we were well on our way to CBP before GenPop even started moving.

The only problem was that the gangway was STEEP going off the ship.  I could barely hold my bags from skiing down the gangway !  I predicted that there would be some falls/slips.  I hope I was wrong.  It was truly unsafe.  I almost threw the Safety flag but I’m retired !  😂 I hope everyone got off without incident.  If that is the means by which folks were going to board, I feel really sorry for them.  Going UP that slope would be just as bad as going down it, was.

We had a misdirection finding Parking Lot B but eventually got there.   My prediction that we would have a short walk to the car from the terminal couldn’t have been more wrong !  We parked as far as you could possible park, from where we entered the parking lot.  I couldn’t have gotten it more wrong if I had tried !  Too funny.

But still home by 8:15.  All unpacked and wash started. Yippee !
