Oh my, it’s going to be a tough ride for all of us to get to Galveston.  Son number two, from Milwaukee, decided to fly out last night,  after getting a warning from his apartment complex that their heating system may not handle the upcoming temperatures and wind factor. Son number one, from Indiana, is on the list for possible delays or cancellations.  Not sure his game plan. South Carolina group seems to be fine. Coming from Kentucky it’s all about the wind.

Main problem is we are not going to really know until flying day tomorrow on just how bad the wind will be. Trying to think of back up plans. I think there’s going to be a lot of people that are not going to make this trip, pray we are not in that group!

jump in that car right now and get to driving!!!!

How long before you can get your luggage after flight is cancelled?

Canceled for weather? Could be up to several hours, unfortunately. Because half the people don’t want their bags, or are trying to reroute them to another flight or airline. Source: my 14 years as a ground baggage handler in a prior life 😉

@LandstromCruiseThat’s what I’m leaning towards, but “credit card” hubby and Indiana son preferred to wait till the last moment to do that. Last moment is going to going to leave our luggage on a cancelled plane. How long before you can get your luggage after flight is cancelled?

I probably when generally lean toward them, but not if it comes to possibly missing my cruise....no way!!

That is exactly what lead to our lost luggage in the March 2022 fiasco! Luggage was checked, plane got cancelled. Luggage got stuck. They wouldn't give it back us. Said it was on route to our final destination via whatever we rescheduled for. Only that one got cancelled too and we had to drive to Pittsburgh to take another airline to MIA the next day. Our luggage took another vacation and we did not get it back until we were returning home.

@Lovetocruise2002That’s what I’m afraid of too. Plan is if lots of delays and cancellations tomorrow then we are driving to Nashville and take a direct flight.  Never check our bags.

Wishing you lots of good travel vibes! Coming from Michigan, I know how stressful this weather can be!

We made it to Atlanta, where our plane to Houston has been delayed 30 minutes.  Indiana son’s flight was delayed but now back to original time. SC family is in the air to Dallas, TX. By gosh, it’s looking like we are all gonna make it.
Sitting in capital lounge where hubby is watching basketball, and I’m pretty much talking to myself!  🙂

The whole group made it to Houston, staying at the Marriott. Now folks, the hotel is nice but the whole area is a bit sketchy.  Good idea to leave everything in your hotel but one credit card to use to get dinner.
We tried to go to Spanish Mass at 8:30pm, as their web site listed.  Lights off.  Mass was listed at 6:00 pm on their door, but never updated on their web page. Hubby said, well we tried, and that’s all Jesus wants from each of us.  Hubby is a daily Mass attendee, so if he says we are alright with Jesus, then there’s. a good chance we will be fine going on a ship out in the ocean.
Our genie, MJ, gave us his WhatsApp number tonight.  We started a group chat. Galveston limo and shuttle picks us up at nine in the morning to head to the ship. Fun times!

We got to port at 9:55, and a lady outside at suite/star class called for a porter, and a terminal person to escort us in the terminal.  Two porters handled our 14 pieces of luggage. They just opened the terminal, and only allowed star class to enter. Went thru a quick security then to suite lounge. Two ladies quickly checked us all. MJ was there (gave me a hug) then took us immediately to our room. In the room he explained all the benefits and answered all our questions.  We soon went to our muster station then MJ met us at  Jamie’s and had a nice table waiting. Lunch was really good. I’ll end here but soon tell you a couple of things that MJ too care of for us. He is amazing.

Quick update, hopefully more later today.  New rule on ship:  You have to cancel your dinner reservations by the evening (can get stretch it to the morning of) dinner reservations, or be charged $15 a person, even for star class. We are fine with that, but gone for dinners is the “flying by your pants”.
We are now stopped in the middle of the ocean, waiting for rescuers for a disabled boat. Perfect location to see all the action from our balcony.  We can’t leave until someone comes to pick them up.  More later.

You seriously need to request him.  He makes you feel like he is working with just your room.

I may send an update to my survey. I did forget to say a few things......if those even matter.

Hubby and kids are playing phase ten, waiting to go to Hibachi for dinner. Last  night was chops, and first night CK.  Service was good in both places. We ate at CK for lunch today. Fool sons asked the waiter if they could have something from chops delivered there for lunch. Answer was no.
I did have a “what the heck” moment the first night in CK. I wanted a can coke and was told the “bartenders were sleeping” and only had fountain coke. Next guy asked how things were going, and I told him the coke was flat. He came back with a can coke.

lt was low 50’s when we boarded the ship.  First sea day was nice but windy. Everyone in our group wore pants. The aqua show did take place. Today, the second sea day, was 82 degrees and a bit cloudy, with a short rain shower. Still nice comfortable weather. We ate outside at the Mexican restaurant.

Casino has been really crowded, and I don’t have to mortgage our house yet, so things are good.  I hosted the slot pull for our Facebook group. We had 100 people, which was amazing. We ended up even. I gave out prizes for the high scorers, and one for the tackiest shirt.  It turned out to be the best slot pull ever!  Our genie, MJ, donated two bottle of wine, and the coolest bottle opener. I’ll post a picture of it.

MJ has been so attentive, but still giving us space. He has stopped in a couple of times today to update us on the plan. He showed up at our slot pull (didn’t see him) and sent pictures and a video of it. That was special!  He really “listens” to you. He is outgoing and personable!  So far, it’s been the best genie cruise!

I’ll post more later.

Well shoot, posted a long blog, and it never made it to the page!  Sorry, it turns out this is a repeat.

I hosted a slot pull the first sea day where 100 people showed. Unreal!  We ended up breaking even, but had so much fun. We didn’t realize our genie (MJ) was there taking pictures and a video.  I added prizes, one for the tackiest shirt.

We ate in CK the first night  steak was good.  Service was good, except I asked for a can coke, where I was told I could only get fountain coke, because the bartenders were sleeping.  What the heck.   When another server asked how the meal was I told him my coke was flat.  He appeared with a can coke.

The weather was low 50’s at boarding.  First sea day it was a little chilly.  Second sea day was low 80’’s with occasional showers.  This morning our balcony is flooded after heavy rain thru the night.  Getting that fixed for we can have a late breakfast  out there.  We had breakfast out there yesterday and it was wonderful.
First day two of card’s wouldn’t work.  MJ fixed immediately.  Our safe was broken  MJ fixed immediately.  Love not having to go down to service desk.
(I’ll be right back)

We used Galveston Limo to take the eight of us from the Airport Marriott to the port.  The van was new and really comfortable.

Here’s a surprise. We just git into Honduras, and the casino is open for slots!  Lots of people last night were betting $10 and $20 a pull.  Saw a couple of $2,000 winners, which is pretty sad for the high bets!  I’m doing ok, no big losses yet, but there’s still days to make up for that!  I’ll write more later, and I’m on my cell phone, not proofreading!

I missed the context of all the car and luggage at first and i thought, what, did you take like a 48-hour cruise?! It can't be over already! 😆

Your slot pull looks successful! Lots of happy faces. Well done! 🤑😍

But seriously, are we not talking about the $15 charge for canceling a dinner without 24-hour notice? Isn't that what the Genie is all about, giving flexibility? Ask within reason and you shall receive?

We have never (nor would we ever) not show up for a scheduled dinner, last minute, without notifying our Genie.

That said, this change sux. NCL is happy to cancel you last minute, and they do if you're not there to check in 15 minutes past your reservation time. I guess i would feel better if they had the fee for "no shows" only. I would support that because that's just rude unless someone is dead or dying. But this doesn't seem very star classy to me. Royal was smart to go the nonrefundable deposit route because otherwise I'd cancel Symphony in a heartbeat with the continued deterioration of SC perks while concurrently escalating price points (exponentially so).
