UPDATE.

our captain just got on again.

“the wind is still very rough… so far the latest forecast is that it MIGHT turn within the next three hours… maybe around midnight or even 2am for conditions to get better.”

but no worries!!! it apparently will not affect our arrival to labadee 😅

did i mention we had our first ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA today?

deck 7, and they named a cabin.

🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

J went to sleep at 8:30 and woke up briefly when the captain came on around 8:50.

i have set a personal goal to finish another book (bringing me up to three completed today) before i even consider sleeping.

our neighbors have their balcony light on, otherwise we would be able to see the lights more clearly.

i’ll try to get a night shot of cococay for y’all.

thanks for coming along this wild ride 😅🤪🫡💚

Surely they will refund your Beach Club money…

Why? They will charge extra for the adventure. Everyone can go to CocoCay, sit at the beach and enjoy the sun.

But the stuff they organised for you is rare (I guess) they don't offer that to everyone to be escorted by life guards and have the rain from all sides plus the wind.

i am pretty sure we set sail around 3am because the rocking shifted from an up and down to a more intense side to side.

all the cabinets in our cabin are creaking/opening closing. it is fairly intense.

i’ve been awake since 3am so i’m going to head down to guest services since it’s probably a quieter time for it (i hope) and i have been bracing not to fall out of bed for the past three hours 😅🙃

still dressed in my pajamas and sweatshirt (i will not be winning any fashion awards), i made my way to guest services.

there was an officer i recognized from the last sailing who had helped us and walked by, via cafe promenade, so i did not feel compelled to ring the bell. but a fellow passenger in line behind me was very impatient and i stepped aside to let him ring it.

him: you have to ring that bell for them to know you’re here, you know.

me: well, an officer just walked by, so i think they know. …but if you’d like to ring it, please [gesturing broadly]

and ring that bell he did 😂

i waited patiently for the second officer to come out while the guy requested cruise compasses.

meanwhile, all is well; the guest services officer was very kind and helpful. (he was also very cute 😅)

we talked about the fateful sailing from december and his eyes got big, “you were on then?!” and he clarified that the man who fell into the water stepped off his scooter and lost his balance.

i had to get our OBC split, and requested a refund for our beach club “excursion” since we did not even get to eat lunch before the call to return to the ship had come.

i also addressed the creaking from the closet doors but he said its like this all over the ship. he told me had moved several folks already and it is the same everywhere. (this was when we commiserated about the december sailing.)

knowing that moving would likely be futile, i asked if he might please make a note on our account. hopefully we will get a future cruise credit that we can apply to our symphony sailing in december 💚

from guest services, i decided to walk to deck 4.

now i am at the crown lounge and it is peaceful (if rolling).

IMG_8101.thumb.jpeg.fb97ef98c1dc8bb89b381fa31229bc92.jpeg

when i walked in, there were two crew members setting up the breakfast offerings. the coffee machine is broken, so i asked if there was anywhere i could get hot water for mint tea and one of them was able to grab for me. 💚

i grabbed a muesli and raspberry danish. the mint tea is also nice since i had a bit of a sore throat this morning - i think from J’s fan blowing 😂

IMG_8102.thumb.jpeg.28fdb58a918d44f7f34008b0597fb6f1.jpegIMG_8103.thumb.jpeg.06bd51eda69b595f5d8a9c59f45310ae.jpeg

so far about four or five folks have walked in and bemoaned the broken coffee machine. i feel slightly guilty as i sit here with my cold brew mug and mint tea 😂

now i will quietly read my book and sip this tea. 💚 it’s so nice down here.

Glad you seem to be making the best of it. I really do love the ship early in the mornings.

Pre-breakfast! Yay! I'm not sure I even knew what muesli was until I tried it in the WJ years ago... good stuff.

Now that your pics have made me hungry, I'll go back to my store brand coffee and coffee-mate vanilla creamer, lol. At least my Mr. Coffee isn't broken.

Glad everything seemed to go smoothly... I read on facebook that they were offering partial refunds on the waterpark and cabanas, but I'm guessing that didn't go over well and assume everyone is getting full OBC back for everything on PDCC. I'm the early riser in my family, I work at 3-4am daily, so it's hard to break that habit. I LOVED walking around the ship at 4-5am when NO one was around..and getting my early breakfast before the rest of the crew was even awake.

Same! I am an early riser because I like to exercise before it gets crowded, and I too love the ship at about 5:00 a.m..

@asquared17 here's hoping your day gets better! ❤️

thank you!!

i had such a nice conversation with one of the crew this morning in the crown lounge; she and i were talking about icon. she starts on icon in june.

we were talking about the sailing and the roughness right now. somehow we started talking about sailing out of bayonne and i said how i would find it difficult due to the rougher seas.

she agreed and said there is lots of vomiting. 🙃🤮😷 and i was glad i had not taken @SweetPea’s advice to sail out of NJ 🤣🤣🤣

I too love the ships early in the morning before it "wakes up." I tend to be an early riser too and enjoy walking around, and nice cup of coffee and as @OCSC Mike says....pre-breakfast.

I' glad you made it safely on board, and was still able to get your funnel cake. It's too bad you didn't get your full beach club lunch. I really like the food there. The people that live on the island probably ate well that night😅

this redeems it for me 😂 i would not want it to go to waste!!!

the ship in the early morning hours is also a favorite of mine, along with pre-breakfast — or, as i call it — “first breakfast” 😆😆😆

we have seats at the pool deck - they have significantly reduced the water in the pools themselves and taken away much of the seating.

i am thinking they’ve done this to reduce the trip/fall hazard areas.

the solarium is blocked off on the starboard side, or else we would have gone there.

a lot of chairs stacked out of the way on deck 16 — we abandoned our usual post for fear we’d get blown away.

the jammer is a WILD time.

with the solarium being roped off, they’ve reduced the number of available breakfast venues and apparently it’s very noticeable. J went in to just scope it out about an hour ago and said the place was a giant hazard. she aborted mission.

i finally changed into sun appropriate clothing and out of my pajamas. on my way back to the seats, i stopped at park cafe for second breakfast. there was no line!!

i got three small vegetarian egg wraps and a ham egg and cheese for J.

fun fact: they’ve replaced the chess pieces on the tables outside 150 central park to heavier, metal pieces.

i’ve never seen that before but the little details are pretty cool.

Good thing because the other ones would probably be rolling around in the promenade by now after the past few days 😅

Intrigued while reading about everyone’s early morning adventures…I decided I will finally check this out myself.  I typically do not wake up before 6:30 (when cruising) but during my May cruise I will definitely grab a few early morning walkabouts.
That’s the beauty of reading the live blog section!  I get so much information which builds my curiosity.  Thanks for the mentions!

I could understand the partial refunds. For most people they had the island from 8/9am to 1pm when the storm rolled in. So they only "lost" 3hrs but we all know how entitled a lot of folks are. They don't care that the weather is not in Royal's hands, they feel their experience has been diminished and they are owed. I bet guest services was a nightmare all day.

Only once have I been out around 3-5am on a Royal ship. It is almost eerie because you can walk for miles and not see a soul.

SO... I just saw someone post on FB  that they got a 30% refund because they didn't have lunch, but still spent time on the island.... they were told take it or leave it.

early 2000s and so on

The 90's gets no love! 😠 They have 70's and 80's events and somehow the 2000's is lumped in with current music.

Some of us previntages are children of the 90's! Glad you're enjoying it though. Anything but the Perfect Day song and I can deal. 🤣

I have XM in my car... all I listen to is the 90s music station, and most of the time it's the 90's rock station (love me some Pearl Jam)

Exactly what I had in mind. I'm not actually a big music guy but that's what I'd be listening to.

Still waiting for the 90's Promenade Parade with the CD in some flannel. Not sure we want to hear the house band attempt to emulate Eddie Vedder or Kurt Cobain but there's plenty of other 90's stuff they could pull off.

Ok…about the 🎶 music 🎵.  Now, I am a pre vintage (according to @asquared17) born in the mid 50’s.  Have always loved 50’s and early 60’s music.  Early 70’s we’re my high school years so 70’s are quite reminiscent for me!  My Sirius XM was always on SoulTown….love that channel!  But a few weeks ago my awesome 12 yr old grandson switched the channel to 70’s on 7.   I am now reliving my disco days lol 😜 💿 dancing 🕺🏼 💃 and bopping to the music in my car!

Hopefully Symphony will have me dancing down the promenade and pool areas 😆

also idk who is in charge of the music in the common areas/pool sections but i am LIVING for it. it’s all this pop and rock and normal music from the early 2000s and so on.

making my music loving heart so happy.

My husband who grew up by the ocean always says that the day after a hurricane is the most beautiful day imaginable.

I'm also a +1 for the 90's music!! I also love 70s and 80s but, as mentioned, those get a lot of play. There are a lot of GenX-ers/pre-vintage on these ships now!

Years and years ago, my husband and I were assigned to a 10 person table for dinner - 3 other couples and a lady by herself. Over the course of the sailing, it comes out that she is (hush hush) engaged to our head waiter (who could have been fired for fraternizing with the guests). She met him on a cruise - we didn't get details about how their romance developed - she would cruise to see him and then they got engaged.

I was a teenager in the 90s so I live and I do mean live for my grunge music minus nirvana and pearl jam, so when I hear Alice in chains or soundgarden (my absolute 😍) I am happy......which is the opposite of the music I love. But I noticed on Wonder that some 2000s were being played and I just assumed it was because Wonder was newer/better than the other 🤣😂😂🤣.

we definitely checked in but did not make it for lunch 😔 so we will see what happens. i also did not go in, guns blazing, demanding a refund. (have i mentioned the officer was handsome? 😂😅)

not that i would have regardless; there are ways to phrase and request and that was a big part of why i wanted to wait until today to say anything.

i felt like we all needed the space.

our seats are atypical and falling into the shade. i’m wondering about getting lunch and/or trying to go somewhere with more sun. i think the ship is crowded as heck now that the weather has turned, and im thinking our balcony will have sun. but no lounge chairs 😬 alas.

stay tuned….
