    POLL: Airfare purchasing

i organise everything myself, dont really worry about who i fly with, best has been Philippines airlines followed by iceland air, worst trip i had to organise was 20th wedding anniversary, took my wife 2 paris for 2 days on way back flight stopped at heathrow for connection home so planned it so instead of heading home we headed to singapore for 2 days, manila for 2 days then a spa resort in mactan ( Philippines ) for 5 days. had 12 flights in 14 days which was a nightmare trying to schedule, flight from paris to london got cancelled on day we were travelling there, luckily i had wedding certificate to show it was anniversary and airline company got us out of paris on time to catch singapore flight, wife didnt have a clue and was happy to stay in paris an extra night, lets just say she wasnt to happy that i was begging airline to get me home lol

    Sorrento's Pizza

As I complete the "live" blog of my recent Christmas cruise on the Majesty at a glacial pace, there's something I really need to talk with other cruisers about. Let me start by saying that I am FAR from a pizza snob. While I've enjoyed some excellent pizza in my time, and I frequently make my own cast iron pan pizzas from scratch, I still appreciate a slice from a national chain, the mall, Cici's or even Digiorno's and Red Barron. I was a firm believer that there's no such thing as bad pizza. Just good pizza and better pizza. I was wrong. Sorrento's is bad pizza. What in gods name do they DO to it? They appear to be using pre-made crusts with a normal-looking sauce and shredded mozzarella. The toppings are kinda skimpy, but that's not a big deal. The problem is that it's got a texture I can only describe as gluey as all hell. Like Elmer's school glue. The crust crisps up reasonably well on the bottom and edges, the cheese browns on the top, but there's something going terribly wrong at the crust-sauce-cheese interface. The entire mass stuck to the roofs of our mouths and left an unpleasant film on our teeth and tongues. I tried multiple different kinds across different days to see if it was just a particular variety to rule out a bad batch, strange customized recipe or something that's been sitting out too long. It was consistently gluey and terrible. An especially well-done pie, fresh out of the oven was only marginally better. It was still noticeably gluey. Soggy elementary school cafeteria pizza is superior to this. I'm just baffled how the pizza can miss the mark so much. Are they using artificial cheese or some peculiar ingredient? Pizza isn't a complex food and doesn't require any ingredients they don't already carry for their otherwise excellent bakery and galley operations. How can it possibly be this bad?

My luck it will be a computer glitch, as we has seen several of them lately, so when i actually check in on Friday it will be fixed and we'll be downgraded to life boat with no facilities.

Nothing like a piece of pizza after drinking all day (Sea day) and night, best hangover cure on the ship.

    Sorrento's Pizza

I couldn't agree more about how bad Sorrentos is.It amazes me that Royal Caribbean can be so consistently good at everything else but so consistently bad at something as basic as pizza.

  13. That is exactly my strategy these days. Book a JS and monitor especially around the 45-60 day window for drops to upgrade. Keeping my fingers crossed for a drop soon on Anthem for this March. That nice GLS you had is still available. One can dream...

  15. We did a disney cruise with our 18 month old a couple of years back. Was Eating solids so did not have to deal with baby food. We sent diapers through amazon with our stateroom number on it and it was in our room when we got there. Might be able to do that with baby food too. You have the right attitude. GO WITH THE FLOW. We only did one dolphin/waterpark excursion. He does not remember any of it, but he had a great time and we have great pictures of it. Besides the cruise we have taken our kids from a really young age on trips through several island (not cruising) and a 2 week trip to Iceland, France and Spain. We just go with the flow. Obviously have to make flights and certain timed events, but everything else just depended on how the kids are doing that day/moment. We have things we want to do and see but if the kids are having a rough day we dont push it. If you push it, life will be miserable and stress through the roof. People argue that you should not take young kids on big trips because they wont remember any of it. I disagree. They are 3 and 5 now and are starting to remember some of our trips. They travel great. Still have our toddler moments from time to time. The best thing is that we have great FAMILY memories and my wife and I will remember those forever....or until i become senile anyway.

  17. The only firm / unquestionable thing you can bring on board is two bottles of wine per stateroom. You can be traveling solo and still bring two bottles. If you happen to be a family split across two cabins, you can bring four bottles on board (two for each cabin you have booked), even if there are no adults in that second cabin. The rest of your question is more of a gray area, unfortunately. The consensus seems to be that you can put a 12-pack or 24-pack of bottled water in your carry-on, and 99% of the time the security guards who check your carry-on during boarding will not bat an eye. But you need to be prepared to get that one guard who lives by the book and won't allow you to bring it on board. Soda or flavored water seems to be the same as bottled water, as people have reported bringing on 12-packs or even cases of soda with no more issue than bringing water. Again, just be ready to get that one guard who says "the book" is the only thing that matters. The key with any of these is to bring them in your carry-on bag, not any of your checked luggage. If you put it in the checked luggage, it will be confiscated 100% of the time, and you'll have to go to the security area to get your luggage.

  18. In 2013 Amex had a Carnival offer. Simply charge more than a threshold amount and you would receive a statement credit of $50. All it took was some sort of line item from Carnival and it worked. For me that was some shore excursions booked directly with Carnival after signing up with Amex for the offer. I've never seen a similar RCI equivalent Amex offer.

  19. Unfortunately it's not until April 2019, but @DocLC is sailing on MSC soon (although not on Seaside) and I'm awaiting his review. His family's "style" of cruising is very close to ours.

    Sorrento's Pizza

You know, I hate that all the terrible reviews of Sorrentos is just convincing me that I have to try it when I cruise. If everyone told me "oh you have to eat here, it's the best pizza ever" then I might try it. But with so many people talking about how bad it is, now I feel I must try it to see how pizza can possibly be that badly done. Why in the world would that be my reaction??

  22. I started the thread sabrina mentioned. I will say that vision was my first cruise in 2015 and I loved it. The restaurants were fabulous and the service wonderful (best wait staff of 2 cruises so far). I was concerned in booking it a second time I would get bored (would love to try another class ship like jewel). However, we booked a room that I never could have afforded on an oasis class and I think sabrina is right in that the destination is key here, not the ship. The 8 of 12 port days are pretty much 7 to 7 everyday...I won't be missing water slides or bumper cars! Jane

  23. My drink of choice is Club Soda, Vodka and a splash of pineapple. Relatively low calorie but still refreshing. If you end up with "G" (currently assigned to the Sky Bar on Freedom), he calls it the "Larry".
