John Barsda
Can we hold a room on a future cruise with out paying the deposit? Or is that required? RCIfan1912

Hi John and welcome to the boards. I don't the answer but suggest you change the title of your thread to reflect what you want to know (rather than your name) as you're more likely to get a response that way. I believe you can or at least you used to because I have done it, hold a cruise for 3 days it holds your room and everything. I'm not sure if that was ended after Covid though.
wordell1
A TA can put a short hold on a room for you. I'm not sure how long. You can't do it yourself but you can book as refundable. Neesa and RCIfan1912

How much of a “future” are you looking for? Like 24 hours? Yes, that can be possible with a TA. If you are talking weeks or months…no that is not possible thankfully. RCIfan1912

AshleyDillo
Some travel agents are able to put holds, but usually it's only up to a week. It locks in the current price on a booking which can be helpful if a sale is about to end. RCIfan1912, FloatyBoaty and Neesa
Bowen
You can put a 24 hour hold on the cruise with the deposit. I was told on the last cruise I booked that the 24 hour hold with the deposit is automatic, so you basically have 24 hours to make a change or cancel without losing that money. I’m not sure how much faith I would put in that, but it worked for me when I booked a cruise and then a family member who’d been pumped about it two hours before suddenly decided they didn’t want to go ChessE4

SweetPea
I did this recently and looked up my invoice. Asked TA to hold a room for me Feb 23. She did so immediately and sent the invoice, which stated Deposit of $900.00 is due by 02 MAR 2023,5:00 PM EST So a full week. WAAAYTOOO
Linda R
My travel agent has put cruises on hold for me, but only for a few days. Then a deposit will be due.

I went to next cruise the next day and they would not cancel it.  They said I had 7 days to apply it to a casino cruise (my intention) or I would get my deposit back.  That was not the case, I spoke with resolutions and they brought up the contract-in the app/ that it’s not refundable.  So the next cruise agent was wrong.  Someone on another ship reported next cruise told them the same thing, snd they too were told too bad by RC. Sharla
The hold time for TAs varies with the length of the cruise. Sometimes it's 3-4 days, sometimes it's a week. We can almost always extend the hold to about 2 weeks, depending. Almost is the key here. WAAAYTOOO, Bowen, Xaa and 2 others

I had my TA put a hold, but i called her the next day to deposit it. At that time, SC suites for the Odyssey 11 and 12 night sailings out of NJ in 2025 were gone by the evening of itinerary release (at the time, it looked like i grabbed the last one). Now it makes sense that one SC suite opened up a bit over a week later, and by that time, the price for it was up significantly over what i paid. Obviously, i have no proof it was due to a hold, but if lapsed holds can cause that kind of escalated price increase for someone who just a bit too late to the party, that sort of stinks.
