  2. Breakfast in the Windjammer. Gotta love that view. One thing about my cabin. My door is at the entrance to the elevator lobby. Noise hasn't been an issue, sometimes I heard loud people walking down the hall but you'll hear that in any cabin. The thing is this. There is this creepy dummy on display and every time I open my cabin door it is the first thing I see. Last night his head turned as I walked past. Okay, maybe that was Kraken.

  3. Day 4 - Sea Day Peak-a-boo Bridge The Peak-a-boo bridge is a unique feature of the Voyager class. It allows you to look down into the navigational bridge. This is a public outdoor deck and the entrance is located off solarium on the forward, port side of the ship. The leads to a narrow outside deck with views aft when you first step out. Heading forward you are in front of the gym. Here there is a covered area with views down into the bridge. Having been at sea for a day and half now everything has a layer of salt on it so I apologize for the poor pictures. Now lets get a bit geeky. <geek/on> There are two displays here that let you see the details of the ship and our course. It looks like we have a direct course towards the "BYE PILOT" which I assume is the Bayonne pilot station where we will pick up the local pilot to assist us getting to the pier. I noted the 'Desired ETA' was 08:00 but also noted that is UTC so lots of time to make our scheduled arrival. In between the two displays are some explanations of what the bridge is, the layout and various components and systems. On the displays I could see several ships around us but couldn't see them in the haze present on the ocean this morning, End of geekiness </geek off> It's a cool feature but can be windy at times. They had it closed yesterday so I was happy to find it open today.

  4. Day 3 - Evening Dinner was in the Windjammer tonight, Tex-Mex night. After dinner I saw the saddest face pop up on my phone on the Periscope app: Apparently FOMO was in play so @Matt held an emergency meeting of the central Florida RoyalCarribeanblog.com users. I tried to watch the scope but the sound of the waves on my balcony made it hard to hear him, plus I was having so much fun on board that I had to put my phone down and get back to the Schooner Bar. This included another round of Billy Pando in the Schooner Bar. That's @mpoole3 and @Big Dawg Ron. He is known for his association with rubber ducks and his shirt reads "RELEASE the Quackin" which was entirely appropriate given the volume of Kraken and Cokes (or diet Coke) being consumed around the piano bar. Adult late night comedy at 11:15pm with Lucas Bohn. Pretty good.

  5. Top tier event. This is when I miss my Nikon. The dancers were great but this is where iPhone photography falls short. With my Nikon this photo would be clear: None the less they were very good when seen live. It could have been the drinks that kept flowing as we waited for the Captain, but the numbers flew past pretty quickly. Over half the ship were C&A members, I think I heard 232 Diamond and 131 Diamond Plus. Ron beside me kept on yacking in my ear so I missed the rest. (Just kidding Ron). Captain Shawn and a few of the Senior Officers: The top cruisers with something like 1328 points (+/- 25) were called up and gave a short speech when they called upon @mpoole3 to re-gift their bottle of Champagne to him. I think he was shocked.

  6. Site Gremlins, I'm sure. I saw zero points & pre-Gold yesterday, but now it shows me having my correct number of 19 points again this morning. Maybe we'll all be Pinnacle by the end of the week. ?

  8. Speaking of which... here is the RavPower travel router I am trying on this cruise pictured beside an iPhone for scale. I first mentioned this in the first post. It has come in very handy. The latest update to 11.3.1 on iPhone continues to have wifi issues. When I'm on 'royal-wifi' my phones don't roam around the ship very well without disconnecting from the the wifi. I first noted this on Serenade when I upgraded to 11.3 during the cruise. After the upgrade I experienced more wifi issues. I blame Apple for this, not Royal. With the above travel router and it's internal battery I can slip it into my pocket and wander around the ship. My phones stay connected to it and I don't have to re-connect every time I wake up my phone. I've placed several wifi phone calls through it and I've scoped through it. It seems to work well.

    Introduce yourself!

Greetings all! Chris here...everyone calls me "Mush" (thanks to a crazy last name..."Mushrush"). Been lurking for a while, but, since we officially have our first cruise with Royal Caribbean booked, I'm coming out of lurker status and going active (be afraid...be very afraid). We'll be doing Allure in March of '19 (eastern itinerary with St. Maarten, San Juan, and Labadee as our ports), which seems entirely too far away right now. Previous cruises on DCL (Dream) and NCL (Escape). Being an extreme planner, I'm already starting to fill out spreadsheets. Our crew consists of me (45 - didn't start cruising until 2015), Sheri (not saying the age...I still value my life), and our two sons (ages 15 and 13). I've been listening to the podcast since episode 1 and love what Matt does on there; I feel like I already know some of you from appearances on episodes. I'm looking forward to get to know all of you!

  11. Matt wrote about this in April on the main blog. Not new news. I also don't see how this is really a "punishment", considering this is still for cancellations made after the final payment date; cancel before final payment and you still get 100% back (less any NRD and associated change fees). And I don't see anything (here or in Matt's original posting) indicating that you forfeit that money if you have trip insurance, which I would hope a person would invest in if they think there is any risk of having to cancel after final payment because of an emergency or other problem. To me, this is Royal taking another step to deal with the people who have gamed the system, booking a half-dozen cruises in the same short span of time and then canceling all but one or two of them a couple of months or weeks before sail date, when they have decided which ones they really want to take or which ones have the best flights or whatever. If you want to blame anyone, blame those people who collectively were probably costing Royal a fair bit of money between the last-minute cancellations and then having to fire-sale the vacant rooms so the ship would still sail full.

  12. I understand your concern. Why pay for internet if you will get it as a perk. I guess the good news is, it will only be a mystery this one time. After your next cruise, you will know for sure and then you will be able to plan accordingly from then forward. As you said, the most important thing to us is waiving the 5% fee with free drinks coming a close second. After that I don’t really care.

  14. I agree with you, Stephanie. It seems insane that they don't all have the same information. I will say, however, that you will probably get whatever information you need when you get on board. Dan and I were both able to get our tier levels from the casino hostess(es) on board and they seemed to have all of the information - the points count from the first qualifying period, etc. Not sure they will know about friends and family.... If it's true that the shoreside CR people don't have any information it's b/c the information has been withheld from them for whatever reason. SOMEbody has the information or it couldn't get out to the ships....so I find it hard to believe that nobody at CR customer service knows anything. So frustrating. I have been reading on CC and other sites that we are supposed to be getting an email by the end of May that will tell us about our free cruises. I won't hold my breath on that one since this program is now more than 2 years behind schedule.

  15. I still have no clue what my tier level is. Every time I call I get the same answer that they don't know it or they are not fully finished rolling out the program. I then say how is it possible for the people on the ships to know the info and they claim they get the info from another source which makes NO SENSE. my next cruise is not far I will be on Mariner on 6/29 and again on 7/13 followed by Harmony on 7/21 (yes busy cruise summer for me lol) so I am hoping when I get on board magically the host will have my info but I agree with Tony I feel like we should be getting something in the mail or email. Also I asked about the friends and family perk as that is listed on there and again I was told they haven't rolled that part out yet nor have they sent out anyone's yearly comped cruise based on their tier level. Get it together Casino Royale it can't possibly be this difficult.

  17. Nope. Nada. I am in the same "boat" as you, Tony. I know my tier level but only b/c I cruised recently. I haven't heard a PEEP from anyone on land. I can't believe that any division of Royal Caribbean International is run WORSE than their IT Dept. but the Casino Department just MIGHT be vying for that prestigious title.

  28. Pub Crawl! There are a large number of RCPeriscopers and folks that joined a FB group cruise page. One of the events was a pub crawl which basically means 50 to 60 people descending on a bar at once (swarming) before moving onto the next bar and so on. Stops included the Schooner Bar, Champagne Bar, The Pub and the Sky Bar.

  30. This balcony is not as deep as my last balcony on Serenade. Sitting down you definitely feel like you are in a cave. Leaning against the railing doesn't feel unnatural. Looking down the life boats stick out ever so slightly but you still have great views down to the water.

  31. You should get down to the crawl .... they're going to need a designated driver .... Ron is already kissing the back of Jarvis' head.... Triplett is behind the bar and breaking things.... lol ....... My kind of people ....

  33. Heading aft JR remains in the same place: Ping pong tables: Adventure Dunes starts on deck 13 and ends on deck 12. Heading up past the flow rider you can see how Adventure Dunes plays from the upper deck to the lower deck:

  34. Windjammer in the morning: They have a different style of hand washing stations leading into the WJ on both sides. They feature air blowers built into the 'wings' on the faucet so you don't need paper towels. Works well. The WJ bar: Great views aft:

  37. I heard that they were giving you double points b/c you had SUCH a great time ! lets just hope that they don’t catch it. Congrats ! Actually, now that I think about it, years ago they gave Dan a “double”. We never caught it until one day I saw that my point count was 7 points lower than his. We have never sailed on RCCL without the other, so I knew something was wrong. They conducted an “audit” and couldn’t find out why his count was higher than mine so they just awarded me 7 more points. I later found where they had double awarded him. They have never changed it back so I guess we’re in the clear at this point. Enjoy your bonus !
