I’m excited to be saving $800 off an upcoming cruise. Hopefully more than one gift card can be applied to a cruise!

It’s is annoying that it can’t be used in Canada! As someone who has a Creuset final payment due in December 30. Also they sent me the email but they won’t work for me as a Canadian. Extra annoying

Of course my MEI TA was supposed to process final payment for me today!  I have an email in to see if she’s done so yet.  If she hasn’t, are you all saying I could buy $4400 in GSs for $3520 and pay off my remaining balance with them through my TA????  This sounds so too good to be true!

The gift cards work like a credit card. They have a 16 digit number, expiration date and CVV.

@Pattycruise Yes you can apply more than one, just have to apply them one at a time as separate payments. I applied 2 to a single cruise this afternoon with no issue.

@Pooch it’s true! I paid off a cruise today that I had only paid a deposit on. Saved 20% off the remaining outstanding balance.

Just heard from TA.  She has not processed the payment yet!  So tomorrow I use the link in the OP’s post, buy enough to pay off the cruise & forward the GC information to her when I get it?  If I buy a bit more, can I apply it to my account to use on board?  If so, how would I do that?  I’m so excited!

BTW, what does Royal get out of this?  Seems like an awfully generous offer and I don’t see the upside for them

You can purchase one $2000 GC for $1600 per person.  I tried to buy a second, and the system told me I already used the promotion.   My wife also bought another $2000 GC for $1600 using her credit card. So if you were to do that, $4000 for $3200 plus an additional $400. $4400 for $3600.

My husband has a C&A number but has never set up an account.  Would I have to create one for hm first? I thought I read the limit was $10,000 not $2000?

Yep, now they are rejecting more than one. I had to do one more under my wife to get all our balances paid. I saved $1600 total.

I don't really think the C&A number matters.  Though we may have all been buying them all under @nate91 C&A number .  The system never asked me for my C&A number.

 It's $10000 limit purchases per calendar day, but they only allow you to buy a maximum of $2000 per GC.

I did two different credit cards and two different emails.  I am pretty certain now we are using nate91 link and that might be why it throttled the purchasing...

It is actually kind of irritating that we didn't all get the crown and anchor email notice.

Good will from dedicated fans and testing the waters on pricing models to separate more money from more people. These types of promotions allows the company to raise fares while helping retain long time customers who will know about and be able to use these offers. People who might try a competitor with another fare increase might book if they know there's a possibility of a gift card discount (or similar) in the future. In other words, it's a differential pricing strategy which won't get the type of pushback of individual pricing of fares would since everyone is seeing similar fares at the same time.

Good point, they could make up the difference tomorrow in all future cruise fares pricing, if they wanted. Makes it all the better to apply the GC to current bookings, I'd guess.  It's too bad they limited me to one discounted GC only.  I was prepared to spend $8000 for $10000 in GC.

They are hoping you will give them to new cruisers that will get hooked on cruising.  Or you will book cruise because you get the 20% off.  They are not thinking about people like us that have 4 or 5 cruises booked all the time.

Correct.  $2000 per transaction for a maximum of $10000 per calendar day.

 

Unfortunately, it seems that 'subject to change without notice' has just kicked in..... links are no longer showing 20% or 10% discounts....

Yes, I was just e-mailing with my TA who processed some payments for me last night. He said he noticed the promo was gone around 9pm et.

I think RC may have underestimated how popular this would be and I can't imagine how much $ worth of gift cards were sold while it was running.

I saw the email last evening, logged into the Blog to see what people were saying about it, by the time I decided to try it the discount was no longer offered. I just missed it by a few minutes. Bummer!!! Congratulations to those of you who were able to take advantage of it!

I called the agent line and was told that it was a technical issue. They stated that discount should be working again in a couple hours and to tell clients to try again this afternoon. Not sure how accurate this is but wanted to pass along. We all know you can get a different answer every time you call, but the agent line usually provides more reliable info. I am not posting this info on Facebook as I do not want to create false hope. Fingers crossed!

i couldn’t decide last night so i deliberated and am now kicking myself. 

we only have celebrity cruises on the docket from now until the end of 2026 - can i use a royal GC for this or do i need to purchase a CC gift card? 

(did someone cover their celebrity fare with one of these?)

If I knew you were debating I would have tried to talk you into it. Hopefully the sale resumes.

I should have too.  I thought I was being a good communicative husband and waited until my wife got off work to let her know I was thinking about buying them for the discount.  She said go for it.  By the time we got home from dinner, the sale was over, and I missed out this round.

Lesson learned for next time -- go ahead and buy and then ask for forgiveness later
