"Cruise Big, or Go Home" – OA 3/10/2024-3/17/2024

This just makes my day!  I’m so happy that you’re finally achieving that goal!  Although I’d love to be doing it this week, I at least have “family” to follow!  I’m sure it will be all you’ve dreamed of and more. I’m so genuinely thrilled for you and your hubby and kids!  May the loft retractable television Gods smile on you and it works as designed 😂. And I believe that if before day 5 you can select the correct button to open/close one of the 6 draperies downstairs on the first try you win a bottle of wine!  But seriously it’s the loft shower. There’s nothing else like it. You’ll see. And now I’m off to my 86th day in a row to open and close our restaurant. But I know this week I’ll be spending more time in the walk-in refrigerator catching up on this trip!  Have the most awesome time my friend!  I’m so happy!

This leads me to believe there's a long running issue with retractable TV's?

The only time I had one (freeloading in a GS on Wonder) it bounced its way out of the ceiling and made an awful noise, lol.

Thank you! I will be thinking of you, and your family lots this week! The loft shower has me worried though. Curious minds want to know, if you are docked next to a ship, are you giving others a shenanigans show? Lol

That’s what I am afraid of! Those of you who follow Andrew’s blogs, over at that other place, know that he does bring his own boards. I am afraid that cruising with them will make Hubby consider too. He was already talking about it on Icon. He’s getting picky about the type of boards given. Apparently there are different ones 🤷🏻‍♀️

This made me laugh. If he is anything like Lindsay I understand why he drew the short straw.🤣 Reyd and I always sit together because Lindsay sits down, puts in AirPods and we don’t hear from him until we land.  When we fly economy we put him in the middle seat and talk around him. 🤣

That pretty much sounds like Hubby. It used to drive me nuts when the kids were little and he wasn’t doing anything to help them. So I always sat with them. That just sort of stuck. He’s in his own world with his noise cancelling headphones lol

@GregD does the same thing! But he chooses to go by himself. So excited for this cruise and can’t wait to see pictures. This is also a dream for me to get to a RLS, one of these days!

We were on Wonder last week, and this week has annihilated me, so I haven't been here all week.  Luckily I saw your post on Instagram so I had to run over here.  So glad it's only page 3 and I can try to keep up.  I hope the four of you have a fabulous sailing!!!

Ok, where do I start here? It’s almost 10pm and I am exhausted. 

We got to Miami very smoothly. DTW was empty this morning, flight was smooth, even arrived slightly early into MIA. Luggage was not lost, and we got to the hotel all within an hour of landing. Not bad at all. That is pretty much where our good luck ran out. 

As many of you probably guessed, we are staying at the Intercontinental Miami, a hotel that I adore. Interestingly enough, our kids have never stayed here. The one time we tried to bring them was the dreaded March 2022 fiasco where we ended up driving to Pittsburgh, and almost missed our cruise. 

Anyway, we got to the hotel around 5pm. I had booked using my Ambassador free weekend night credit for this stay. I get one voucher each year. I get to the front desk and they said they don’t have my reservation. I told them that is impossible because it shows up in my app and I have been getting the emails from them all week about my upcoming stay. So they tried to access the reservation with the confirmation number instead and they said it shows that it’s been cancelled. I said that I definitely did not cancel it. And I said that if I did, why is it still showing as an active reservation on my app?

They got the manager, and this went on for almost 45 minutes! They said they were truly puzzled but they also could not honour the free night, but they also can see that my voucher remains unredeemed, so basically they did not know what to do. Apparently, they also cannot manually override either because they said their system doesn’t allow it. By this point, I was getting a bit mad. It was almost 6pm. They said they need time to look into this further and they were going to put us into the room we originally booked. Hopefully, this gets worked out tomorrow. 

To make matters worse, we always book club level here at the Intercontinental Miami. It does not say anywhere in reservation confirmation when you book that club access only includes two adults. If we want the kids to access the lounge; they would be charged $50pp/night. Uh, no thanks. So then we had to make a trip to Whole Foods to get the freeloaders fruit and breakfast items for the next two mornings. 

By this point it was 7pm and everyone was hangry and tired. We had a 7:15pm reservation to eat a quick bite at Toro Toro. They gave us a food credit for all the trouble from earlier. I called housekeeping to get a couple of luggage racks delivered. They are usually super fast here. A guy comes with two racks and said he would come back with the 3rd and never did. So off we went to dinner.

After dinner, there was still no 3rd rack. So we made another call to have the 3rd rack delivered, along with some mugs and a kettle for tea. After two of us showered, there was still no delivery of items. Hubby called back and they apologized for forgetting. Eventually , the 3rd rack shows up along with paper cups, no kettle. By this point, even D17 who is the most critical of my antics, said, “Ok, maybe it’s not you. Maybe this hotel is messed up today.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I said to Hubby and the kids, this whole thing with the hotel upsets me because I love this hotel. We have always had the best stays here. I tell everyone how much I love this hotel. I am not sure what happened this time but we are going to call it a day, and hope for better luck tomorrow. We still have no clue what is happening with our free night voucher…

This was our dinner tonight. D15 grabbed a slice of pizza at Whole Foods and didn’t even make it to join us. She was too tired lol. We really loved the Lobster Mac & Cheese last time so we knew D17 would love it too. She did. And  of course, there is no way we could pass up on truffle fries. We also got Crispy Prawns which was good, but a bit too much batter.

So annoying! I went back to check my reservation and I wasn’t charged the extra fee for Reyd. He was on the reservation but I always check us in when we arrive by myself so it’s possible we didn’t pay an upcharge because they didn’t see Reyd.  Regardless, I don’t think they monitor who goes into the lounge so I would be tempted to let the girls enjoy it. Lol

Interestingly enough I also saw my price I paid for club level bay view and it was under $300 per night in Dec 2021. It’s more than double that on our upcoming stay this December.

No, they charge you the fee upon check in, not when you book. And yes, they monitor. I texted you earlier, I think this is a new change. In fact, I told them no thanks and they still charged us $100 for tonight for club access for the kids. I just checked my room charges. Back to deal with this, and others tomorrow.

Up early like usual this morning. I decided to head up to the club lounge early while the rest were still sleeping. Last night, I checked my hotel charges and despite me telling them my kids don’t need club lounge access, they billed me $100. I just spoke to the concierge in the lounge now and she was wonderful! Probably the best staff member here so far. She apologized for the charge and she said she is waiving the charge for the kids for the rest of the stay. I told her not to worry about it as we have already bought breakfast items for them last night at Whole Foods. She said wants to see them here for breakfast when they wake up. Hopefully that means that today is off to a better start 🙂

I always love the responses of our system won’t allow it. That’s their BS response for we don’t want to do it and aren’t just going to say it. There’s always a way to take care of the customer. I’ve been in hospitality for 30 years. You should definitely get a free night and they should let you keep the voucher for another free night

Now THAT is customer service. Glad you found the A person instead of whoever you were dealing with last night.

Best feeling ever when someone takes care of your issues and does so in an exceptional way.

Humans, IT, etc. will always make mistakes or have glitches... it's how the person you deal with takes care of the problems to me.

Yes, that is sort of why Hubby and were frustrated with them last night. Hubby kept asking them why they couldn’t manually remove the one night. Anyhow, hopefully we get a resolution to that today. I don’t want that to cloud the good day it’s going to be! La Bamba!! First I need the rest of them to wake up and get moving. Shopping first, then La Bamba!

Meant to respond to this part... I highly doubt it will be boring. The fam can relay what's going on in the "outside world" for you to share and there's always food porn.

Some good news to report. While we were waiting for the freeloaders to get ready, Hubby and I ventured down to the front desk again. A different manager was on duty so we asked to speak with him and hopefully get another perspective. Oh my, talk about night/day difference! This manager was awesome!

After we explained the situation to him, he asked to see the voucher in my app, and that was it. He said he will remove the charge for the second night, no problem. We were stunned. Hubby and I were like, “This is exactly the way it should have played out yesterday!” Anyway, still won’t be totally relieved until we see the bill tomorrow, but I am pretty sure it’s resolved. But the manger this morning told us not to worry, it will not show up on the bill tomorrow.
