I'd love to know thoughts comparing Oasis Class to Icon and what we can expect from Icon to be added to Utopia. We've passed on Icon for Utopia. What's say you? Ampurp85 Posted February 1 Report Share Posted February 1 Since Utopia is what considered ultra Oasis, I doubt things from Icon would be added. Icon is a different class. It's because Icon is currently the latest and greatest and of course people are gonna be talking about Icon for months, when Utopia eventually launches and the novelty of Icon was worn off, people will be talking about Utopia, that's just how it is. When Symphony was just released, people barely talked about Wonder, when Wonder came out, everyone was talking about Wonder because she was the latest and greatest. It wasn't a "what features from icon would you hope to see on Utopia" you asked a straightforward question and got answers that you attributed to what is perceived as negative behavior......which I think is unfair. Love the idea of being told which elevator to get on and whoosh magically you head straight to the chosen deck! I was in NYC over the weekend and experienced that same concept at the Marriott Marquis! Best invention! Of course…world travelers here may have already known about this concept, but it was my very first experience and it made such a difference! I would love if they could of took things from Icon on Utopia but I think she was the last Oasis and pretty much designed before Icon. A great thought exercise would be what the rumored Discovery class would have, since it would be designed and built after both Icon and Oasis classes. After watching Matt's walk tour, the NOLA style mixed drink machines and the upgraded milkshakes would make me a happy camper. I'd love the fresco Greek but probably a bridge too far. I read somewhere (probably in the mod inaugural live blog) that they are using a different type of drink mix for those machines and that it was inferior to the cartons used on other ships. I'd love any/all of the new included food venues but that's just where my focus goes. So yeah, no downside to the fake food truck. When oasis class was new the original update/amplification program was to bring Oasis-style updates to some of the older ships. I expect the next rounds in 3-5 years will be "iconification" where certain concepts are brought into the older ships. The elevator bank would seem to be a welcome change, there must be someone with PLC experience on the forums that can weigh in on whether the smart banks are options, though you would still need to work within the basic design so how would you do it? put a call pad at each bank or just one for fore/aft and the hope people scramble to the right car in time? I'm both extremely patient and extremely lazy... but when I cruise I take the stairs whenever possible. Between crowds, waiting, people coughing, lack of etiquette, etc., I just can't handle the elevators most of the time. I could lie and say it's for the exercise but it's definitely not, lol. I just assumed the drink mix was like the bottled water...whatever the supplier gets,they use. People swear they always use island oasis at the bars, but they were definitely using a brand called "sunsational " on Oasis a few months ago. But after 3 bouts with Covid over the last year and a half my lung capacity definitely diminished and going up the stairs causes much huffing and puffing ! I can manage 2 or 3 decks and then my heart is racing and breathing out of control. Very sad as I was always a “fit” person. Now it’s embarrassing how quickly I get out of breath!
