Tampa, FL, 21 years old and you don't think you're in a "sweet spot". Son, some of these senior cruisers will probably beat the hell out of you with their walking canes, drink straws or challenge you to an arm wrestling contest if they ever meet you on a cruise. Jane I'll be there attempting my first marathon after getting off a cruise the day before. We're flying into and out of Orlando, but only have our return airfare right now. We are there til tuesday or wednesday...hey...rc meet up at the disney marathon everyone! Im actually flying in dec 26 to 30 to chaperone my daughters choir performance at epcot and tickets averaging 550 round trip. Then i fly back on Jan 2 for the race...still have to buy those. I have flown american a lot lately...they aren't significantly way cheaper, but a bit and they seem to have the best times into chicago. Jane We're flying in on December 29th, driving to Miami, staying at a park/cruise hotel, then cruising from Saturday to Saturday (12/30-1/6). Then I head back to Orlando to pick up my race packet for the Sunday marathon. We're flying Southwest home as they had cheap tickets available. Right now, American is the cheapest going out. We're staying at Disney from Saturday (1/6) until Wednesday morning and then moving over to Universal until Saturday. firegal2539
Yup, I am in the "Sweet Spot" of old age. Many of my cruises are discounted for gambling so it allows me to take about 4 extra cruises a year. I am sure that the cruise lines will figure out a way to take the casino benefit away, so the number of cruises will drop dramatically. It seems Royal is really cutting into customer service with all the changes to NextCruise and two different kinds of deposits, I am wondering what they can take away next. Candie I'm still a relative newbie here, but this sure seems to hit home. Of all the policy changes and the like, I don't recall any of them being that much more beneficial to the cruiser. I know it is just smart business and all that blah blah, and they won't be cruising with any fewer empty cabins, but RC seems to have shifted their loyalty from their long-term customers who made them so successful to anyone who has money. All we need is another recession, and they'll realize that they shouldn't have alienated their core "fan base". DocLC
This could very well be a tend in the industry. Carnival has had a non refundable deposit rate for years. Theirs, however, offers price protection even after final payment. As a result, opting for the non refundable deposit guarantees that you'll pay the lowest price. @Floski You raise some good points. Another thing to keep in mind is if they ever reinstate the fuel surcharge. That could change things dramatically especially those that can't afford the surcharge and cancel but now can't get a refund. Had Total extended the hours of the WJ or improved quality and selection of late night dining, I don't think anyone would have cared about the room service charge as it would be for convenience. Also, if Royal added a substantial perk to the non-refundable deposit program (e.g., you're guaranteed the lowest price,), I don't think it would have caused such an uproar. Keep in mind, though, that we're uber fans, which is why we're hear talking about this. Most of the cruising public probably doesn't care or hasn't noticed.
