Cancellation without notification

It just happened again! Got no notification that my cruise for April 2022 was cancelled. I understand that there will be be cancellations but not getting notified really stinks. There is also no mention on RCLs website or on their update about cancelled cruises.

They just cancel and I notice only when I get a refund for the taxes.

As soon as I noticed that they cancelled I got on the phone and asked to „lift and shift“ to 2023. I was told that I cannot do that because the cruise was already cancelled. Shame on you RCL. I asked to speak to a supervisor but after 2 hours on hold was hang up on.

I am convinced RCL is purposely canceling without notification so they don’t have to either refund or honor their „lift and shift“ policy.

This has happened to me on several cruises now and I am to a point to switch cruise company. Even as a Diamond+ it’s not worth dealing with RCL. Filing now a complaint with Department of Transportation‘s consumer protection division.

Personally I’d love to know which sailings are cancelling.

You won’t find this cruise cancellation on RCLs website… especially not under the updates. They only post when ships are back in service. They cancelled my Nov 2021 Transatlantic without any mention on the website last month and now another  cruise for April 2022.

I don't understand.  The link I posted is on the RCLwebsite.

If you check your upcoming cruises on the Royal website, canceled cruises show up as "Canceled Cruises" with a bright orange background.

May I ask what cruise of yours has been canceled for 2022?

Ovation of the Seas. I was booked back to back Sydney - Honolulu - Vancouver

They cancelled April 10, 2022 SYD HLL, but not April 26, HLL to Vancouver

I can’t find anything on RCLs website about the cancellation and I only found out when they refunded the taxes of the Cruise.

@Matt mentioned cancellations of cruises in Australia on this blog post.  I don't know where he got the information.

I received a cancellation notice of our April, 2022 Australian cruise on Ovation.  This notice came from RCL forwarded by my Travel Agent.  Maybe your TA didn't pass the information on...

Dear Guest,

Due to ongoing uncertainty around the opening of international borders, as well as changes to our global return to service and deployment, we've been reviewing our upcoming 2021/2022 summer program in Australia. Unfortunately, as a result of this review your cruise has been cancelled.

We know this news is disappointing, and we're sorry for the impact to your holiday plans. Please know, we continue to apply the best available public health, science, and engineering insights to our cruises and continue to engage with Federal and State governments to recommence cruising in Australia. Our goal is to continue to provide updates as and when they come to hand.

Your holiday is important to us, along with the flexibility to make the best decision for you and those in your party. As a result of this unexpected cancellation, we will provide you with the following options:

Your Options

Option 1: Automatically receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit

We're providing you with a 125% Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise by April 30th, 2022.

  • This amount is based on your total cruise fare paid, and we're giving you a little extra knowing that this is such a unique circumstance.
  • Your certificate can be used on any Royal Caribbean International sailing that departs on or before September 30, 2022, as long as it's redeemed by April 30, 2022.
  • We will automatically issue your Future Cruise Credit via email by September 3, 2021, so there's nothing for you to do!
  • Taxes & fees and any RoyalUp upgrades will be automatically refunded. Current refund processing is around 30 business days. We're working as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience.
  • Please note:
    • If you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit, this offer does not apply.
    • If you previously used a Future Cruise Credit (including previous Global Suspension FCCs), you'll receive a new Future Cruise Credit. This will be for 125% of any new monies paid on this sailing, plus the value of your original credit at 100% of its value, with an expiration date of April 30th, 2022 and a sail by date of September 30th, 2022.
    • If you were already impacted by a sailing that was previously cancelled due to a global suspension and paid additional monies on a new booking within this extended suspension period, and you opt in for a refund via the process below, it will be for both bookings.

Option 2: Move to a new sailing on the Australia 2022-2023 Program (Lift & Shift):

If you prefer to move your existing booking to a sailing in 2022 or 2023 - we're happy to move you! We'll price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same Australian 2022-2023 sailing that has the same embarkation port, sailing length (+/- 2 sail nights), and stateroom category as your original sailing within 2 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date in either 2022 or 2023. For example, if you are moving from a November 7th, 2021 sailing onboard Ovation of the Seas, you can move to another 2022 or 2023 Ovation sailing that has the same embarkation port, itinerary, sailing length (+/- 2 sail nights), product, and stateroom category.

  • Please know, price protection covers your cruise fare/promotion on an applicable sailing only and excludes taxes and fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items, as these may change.
  • You must decide to move to a new sailing by August 11, 2021. If not, we will automatically issue you a Future Cruise Credit.
  • Complimentary Casino offers, Charter sailings, and select rates are not eligible for this offer.

Option 3: Select a 100% Refund

If you prefer a full refund, which is a lower value than the future cruise credit offer above, we're happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have until September 30, 2021 to request a refund and deactivate your certificate.

  • Please contact us to start the refund process, forfeiting the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit.
  • To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel, click here and we will get the refund process started for you. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won't be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind.
  • We'll then deactivate your Future Cruise Credit and process your refund to your original form(s) of payment, which will include any non-refundable deposits.
  • You can expect to receive your refund 30 days after you submit your refund request.
  • Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing and you request a refund instead, we'll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we'll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate.

Air/Hotel

  • Refundable air or hotel accommodations purchased through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded to you within 30 days after we process the cancellation.
  • If you booked non-refundable air through Royal Caribbean or booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.

Well thanks RebN, I appreciate the info.

I sure wasn’t informed by RCL and the TA claims they were not informed. And RCLs website didn’t mention it. RCL does have my email address.

I sure didn’t know a blog mentioned it. I was relying on RCL to inform me. I guess some have no life other than blogging.

Thanks for the helpful info.

I am getting the refund process started.
