Traveler
I suggest to wait around 10 days more. Few days ago they found that the virus can spread by people who do not show any signs yet . Once they found this fact the quarantine became tighten . Since the virus become active after 14 days from the infection we will know were we are going in about 10 to 14 days , if the numbers will still increase it will take some more few month but if the numbers of new infected people will start to go down it will indicate it's finally under control and the quarantine is effective Jzx1103, WAAAYTOOO and KristiZ

Jzx1103
Just heard Norwegian is denying boarding to anyone who's been to mainland China the past 30 days. They will be given a refund. Other cruiselines will likely follow.
Traveler
And now in Italy ... Two people from China on one of the Costa ships are suspected to have the virus , The ship is now in Civitavecchia and all the passengers are not allowed to embark from the ship , I wonder if it will be for few hours or maybe for 14 days ... I have attached the link but its in Italian , got some translate from co workers here who knows my love for cruising https://www.leggo.it/italia/roma/coronavirus_civitavecchia_nave_crociera_ultime_notizie_oggi_30_gennaio_2020-5017564.html Big Tule

Now I wonder if cruise lines will start refuse people to board if they visit China on the last few weeks. I must say that when I came back from Canada last week (OR as I call it - running out from the freezer) I was not happy to find out that my United flight back home from Newark came few hours before from Shanghai. WAAAYTOOO
Wow....this is going to snowball in a hurry. If the ports are beginning to quarantine the ships and not allow them to disembark at ports of call, it's going to get ugly. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the ships begin to deny pax from mainland China.

WAAAYTOOO
The most disturbing part of this article, IMO is that the woman in question flew from Hong Kong. I wish the article had provided whether or not she originated from HK or if she had flown in from mainland China TO HK. My point is, if Hong Kong was her origination point then HK can no longer be considered a "safe" port.

I tend to believe they are originally from China , first since this is what the Italian sites are saying , second since they were boarding the ship on the second port of call which mean they missed the first day I guess due to the flight cancellation from China. I guess they took the train or some other transportation to Hong Kong and catch a later flight. WAAAYTOOO

Not Honk Kong but like Honk Kong , It is a territory which was controlled by Portugal and moved to China , still keep independent immigration so if you go from Hong Kong to Macau you need a passport but like Hong Kong most people can travel there without Chinese Visa . Although Macau has international airport its quite small so most people will take the ferry (1 hour travel) from Macau to Hong Kong Airport to catch a flight (there is also a bridge now between the two cities). They also have their own currency and its the only place in China which gambling is allowed so they have huge casinos.

There are plenty of rumors about the number of infections and deaths being hidden including reports that crematoriums are disposing of bodies that aren't being counted. In the last couple decades, I can't remember travel restrictions coming anywhere close to what we are seeing today. And China is building multiple hospitals just to treat/quarantine people with this disease. When is the last time you heard something like that? Zambia-Zaire
Cruise ships are problematic...since in many cases, they're already a floating pastry dish, with access to many locations. So, I understand the concern of some of these small island nations. A small outbreak can devastating to their small population & wreck havoc to an already weak economy & infrastructure.
