Electrically speaking, this new ban is not only confusing to customers but is also BS.

Previous to this change it was already prohibited to bring high current devices onboard. (your own useable hair dryer, etc.)

This change couldn’t possibly have been created by a qualified EE, it must have been the brainchild of a lawyer.

As long as I've been sailing (2001) it's been permitted to bring your own hair dryers and curling irons aboard.  It still is.

I asked about the adapters in an email to them and got the following back "If the device provides multiple AC outlets, then it is considered a power strip/extension cord and is not allowed onboard. This impacts both US standard outlets and EU outlets. If the device provides multiple DC charging outlets (i.e. USB ports) then those are generally accepted. However, please note, that even though an item is not specifically prohibited to bring onboard our ships, we are unable to guarantee that it will not be confiscated during the boarding process. Port and ship security staff have the final say on what can be brought onboard and reserve the right to confiscate any item that they feel may pose a potential health, safety, or security threat."

I'm packing both multi usb and single just case.

I thought I read somewhere that they weren’t allowing the 240/120 adapter that also provided USB ports.  Maybe I’m misremembering.  I don’t think the adapter is an issue, just not sure about the add-on USB ports….  I guess I’ll find out soon !

What is the consensus regarding this adapter: EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter One International Wall Charger AC Plug Adaptor with 5.6A Smart Power and 3.0A USB Type-C for USA EU UK AUS (TA-105, Grey)?

It has 4 available plug types (continental Europe, UK, Australia/China, North America/Japan) but only one type can be used at a time, e.g. UK--->US or UK----->Europe.
TIA.

This will be fine

RC updated their verbiage again to clarify standard outlets vs USB

  • Electrical Extension Cords - including power strips/surge protected strips and multi-plug outlets.
We do allow consumer type power conversion device USB charger (multi-plug blocks on which the outputs are for USB cables). Note: Devices must be stamped with US/Europe recognized Conformance Marking to demonstrate compliance with Electrical Safety standards.

According to Royal it is allowed on Harmony and Voyager. Odd

We just bought two of these and will be on Harmony at the end of the month.

We had previously bought one like this but it had two US outlets and USB ports which I presume is banned now.

Amazon.com: 2 Pack European Travel Plug Adapter, VINTAR International Power Plug Adapter with 1 USB C, 2 American Outlets and 3 USB Ports, 6 in 1 Travel Essentials to Most of Europe Greece, Italy(Type C) : Tools & Home Improvement

This is what we bought a couple of years ago and have used with no issues. We also keep these in our carryon JIC some uninformed crew member decides it should come out of our checked bags. These came in handy while in England this summer. Oh, and my wife bought a usb charging pad that she sets her phone and apple watch on...works great.

I'm going on harmony in 3 weeks and wanted to be sure before I bought something so I messaged them on Twitter and this is what she told me. Interesting that it doesn't say anywhere in their description that it can only have 4 USB ports. I was going to buy one with 8 just to be extra but I'm glad I asked lol

I only see Royal making references to USB ports but most of my devices need USC. Is it four total? Are there more examples of what would be allowed? I will be on Liberty and if I remember correctly there are very few plugs available.

We have USC too.  No problem.

I believe you can have as many USB multiplyers as you want but you can't have any actual outlet multiplyers.

One electrical outlet per adapter. That's the rule. Anything else is fine.

So was having a discussion about this with a person online and they said they received a message about the one power outlet being OK so for clarification I reached out to Royal and was replied to with one outlet is OK but only with maximum four USBs (which means the one I was going to use is not allowed since it has six)

Holy cow I got slight brain damage reading this.  There is no 'USC' in this context.. There is USB-A, USB-C and various other configurations of USB (Universal Serial Bus)

Now that this has been in force for a few months, how is everyone adjusting? Did you make any changes or purchases that might help the rest of us?

Note: If you're sneaking power strips or blocks on, please don't tell us!

I'm guessing it's been a pretty low impact issue for the large majority of travelers.

Sailed on Harmony last month with the adapter I posted last fall with no issues. Well, there was one, the vac the steward used needed the euro plug outlet and she sometimes forgot to put my adapter back in.
