post Embarkation must do checklist

Would somebody be willing to provide a must do priority list to do on the app once we get onboard the ship?

i/e: book shows, restaurants, entertainment, muster, activities........what fills up first?    going on our first cruise in Dec on Oddysey and am getting anxiety about ALL the things to do "As soon as you board".

Thanks!

Scott

  1. MUSTER! Seriously get this out of the way as SOON as  you get on board because with so much to do it can be easy to forget. You don't want to be in the group the captain tsks tsks at over the PA.
  2. Book your specialty dining. There will be booths for dining, beverage, shore excursions etc all along the promenade. Find the one for dining, and grab your reservations. The popular locations and times fill up fast, especially considering people can book ahead of time. In fact, if you don't have a dining package or TA voucher, book ahead of time via the cruise planner.
  3. Grab your drink cups. You don't NEED them right away, but I like to have first pick of colors.
  4. Check out where you will be sitting in the Main Dining Room if you have traditional dining (5 or 8 ish). Just go to your assigned dining room and give them  your room number. This is how you can ask for preferred seating like a window seat or seating for just your party. NOTE that if you have My Time Dining you will get whatever seat is available but you will always only be sat with your party.
  5. Get the lay of the land ship. I like to walk the popular decks of the ship and get an idea of where things are so you're not too turned around throughout the week.
  6. Grab a drink or snack, a comfy chair...and people watch!

You've got it @Scott Hammer.  Do it in the order that holds the most priority for you but all pretty much right away.

Then just add get a drink and get some food and you're all set.

Get that drink at the first bar you pass on the way to whichever item becomes first on your personal list. Makes any waiting in line required much easier to take.

Usually not all shows even on those ships @JFCruise.  Dining packages require waiting to board for reservations so that impacts many.  Definitely good to watch the video, but still visit the station pretty quickly after boarding is best practice.

Of course, just trying to say there is some things you can do pre-boarding to make your boarding day a little easier. I didn't understand the dining question as one for a package, though. Obviously if you have a package that's something to be done ASAP.

@CrimsonCruiser your list is the best!!  And I think that's pretty much what we do as well.  As soon as we were able to make the internet connection, I think that's when we started trying to book shows.

Have fun @Scott Hammer!  Cruising becomes an addiction...but a very good one!

Muster

Shows/Restaurants if that's your thing

Get a drink

Register at Adventure Ocean if that's your thing

Get a drink

By then rooms will be open

You don’t eat anything before cabins are ready? I’ve eaten at a minimum of 2 places by then, lol.

Everyone has their routines. We don’t do much besides eat & grab drinks.

Go to pool deck, grab a pina colada with a dark rum topper, take some selfies to send to family and friends back at home(Ha ha, have fun working this week!). Then I make my way back down through the ship running errands, eating, and people-watching. Once I get to the lower decks, and muster (and my drink) is done, I go back up to the pool deck to drink and chill until rooms are ready.

The “old days” just after Covid it would be to book entertainment immediately upon boarding. . Now that’s pretty much done on the website -about 45 days or so before sailing is when that opens on the website

Muster station immediately to scan in-though on some ships personnel may not be in place until 11. (On the way to the ship watch the 2 mandatory videos)

main dining room.  Ensure your reservation is correct.  You can also see this in the app once you connect to ship WiFi in regards to your dining time. I’ve had linked reservations where our tables were in separate dining rooms (Anthem)  I’ve been placed at a solo table when I had requested a shared table. I’ve been placed into my time dining when my booking confirmation had a fixed early dining time.   So I always check in to see what the situation is.

internet assistance-if needed.  They can go over phone settings to ensure your phone is set to not continuously drop the wifi.  Connect to ship WiFi!! To be able to use the app and chat with others

grab a coffee, drink, something to eat and go over the app daily planner and schedule the items you are interested in.  Ensure notifications are on for the app and it will send you a notification about 30 minutes before the event. If I’m on an Oasis class ship I sit in Central Park to do this.

casino player? I go and take a pic of the points list-to see how many casino points will get a free cruise. I also walk around to see the layout and the games.

once we have access to our cabins I unpack my carry on and take a walk down the hallway to see if my checked bag is banging out-if it is I’ll drag it back to my cabin and unpack it.
I leave a note for my stateroom attendant in case I don’t see them the first day.  1. Add memory foam topper to the one side of the bed. 2. Which cleaning service I wish to have -morning or night.

I don’t typically book specialty dining onboard, nor the beverage package-so that’s not on my list.

We just do pizza since it's right there when we board. We tend to eat on the way to any cruise or vacation, so we get on board kind of full, so its pizza and maybe a snack from the cafe until dinner.   But @CrimsonCruiser pretty much nailed our routine the last few times... get on, grab pizza, get drink cups, get drinks, walk to muster and dining room, then just people watch until room is ready!

BLASPHEMY! I diet before cruises, get to WJ when it opens and isn't crowded, and then have other stuff between then and dinner like Park Cafe or El Loco Fresh, lol.

PC has been boarding very early, like before 10:30 even, so there's a lot of time before dinner. 😋

As I said, everyone has their routines... yours is wrong though. 🤣

Well we will see this time around since we are driving... Last time we came from a hotel, which was next to a McDonalds so we loaded up on Mcgriddles and hash browns before the shuttle took us to the port.  Maybe now that we have an early check in time and I can be at the port on my own time we will actually get a little more pre-room time to get some grub! We didn't board until almost 1 last time, so it was get on, pizza, muster and "rooms are ready".  I'm definitely down with some windjammer pre-crowd since we'll be there earlier!

McDonalds

That just makes it worse, lol. I don't care what people think or the WJ (or any other included embarkation lunch venue like Park Cafe or El Loco Fresh)... it beats McDonald's!

I'll stop hijacking the thread now. Apologies to those who were looking for an actual embarkation checklist but we really don't do anything besides eat, drink, and muster since we have everything else reserved ahead of time. Once we turn D+ after this next cruise, we'll join the "head to a dining venue 1st thing" crowd to book our BOGO meal(s).
