Revo1776 Posted April 17, 2022 Report Posted April 17, 2022 Just got off Adventure of the Seas on April 17th from my 20 yr anniversary cruise. I decided to book another for my 45th birthday on July 19th. The only one available during that day out of Galveston was Grandeur of the Seas. Since the family has to work, I will be going solo. Any comments on the ship? Tips or activities recommended? Thanks James Quote
willowberry88 Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 My family had a great experience on the Grandeur! We were on a 10 day that had to change the itinerary last minute due to weather and we stopped at Key West and Miami. We made the most of it and had a wonderful time. Being a smaller and older ship, it didn’t have the bells and whistles we have seen on Harmony, Odyssey, Allure etc but the staff were all super friendly, ship always clean and the fewer passengers meant the cruise was more personable and we met a lot of people! Enjoy, you won’t be disappointed! Revo1776 and The Fox 1 1 Quote
steverk Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 I really enjoy the vision class ships, including grandeur. It's easy to get around and meet people. The whole experience is much more intimate. It is a very different experience than the larger ships though. It has a slower pace. Planned activities like trivia will be a larger part of your experience, while features like ice rinks and water slides will be non existent. Keep an open mind and you'll have a great time. Oh! One more thing. If you have a day where you feel motion in the ocean, jump in the solarium pool. It becomes a great wave pool on rough days. Chris Fish and Revo1776 1 1 Quote

Specialty dining is more limited, but we always eat in the MDR or other complimentary restaurants, so nothing lost for us. We also liked the show, especially the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers. It's fun to walk deck 5 on sea days to get ocean views. Revo1776 1 Quote

coneyraven Posted April 18, 2022 Report Posted April 18, 2022 Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, ..... I'm taking a bow with such accolades. There's no doubt, I love Lady G. You don't realize how many windows there are with views out into the ocean until you go on the larger ships. For example, the Schooner Bar. It's all windows on the one side. When you look up through the Centrum .... it's a giant skylight at the top. Unlike the larger ships that are very horizontal in the venues ... smaller ships with the Centrum are designed to think vertically ... many items surrounding a central core as opposed to a promenade. As for questions, ask away @Revo1776 , I'll do my best to help. Mark KristiZ and AandD 2 Quote

I’m not as frequent a Grandeur cruiser (since I moved to FL) as I once was but I was never, ever disappointed with a Grandeur cruise. I just wanted to relax and watch the waves and relax again. I really am hoping they have a karaoke lounge and a more relaxed casino. Thank you. KristiZ, Sweety and The Fox 3 Quote
SemperMom Posted May 3, 2022 Report Posted May 3, 2022 Our first cruise was on the Grandeur to Bermuda and the reason why we 1. got hooked on cruising and 2. rarely venture out to other lines. The Grandeur is a great ship. She was SO lovely. I was super sad to see she left Baltimore for Galveston. I like the smaller, older ships as much as I like the big, new ships. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Grandeur, for sure. Sweety 1 Quote
PurdueFlyer Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 sorry for the bump! paging Grandeur experts ... I have an option for a solo sailing on Grandeur / 5 nighter in 2023. cabin choices are as follows: INSIDE for $410 total including tax -OR- JUNIOR SUITE for $940 total including tax. (the balcony is higher than the JS, oddly, and I don't bother with ocean-view cabins. But I digress) Here's my conundrum. I would pay that price for a JS, however, the only ones that are available are on deck 8, which is right below the pool / solarium / windjammer deck. I really can't stand noise (dragging of chairs, weird thunking noises from pool drain pipes, etc) and I like to pick decks that are in between other rooms if possible. I could do this with my choice of decks for the interior cabins, but those cabins on Grandeur are TINY- 136 sq ft! The JS's are a decent size but the photos look dated. I mean...the whole ship is dated. I enjoy smaller ships, but with 2 sea days, I know I would value the balcony / JS a little more on this sailing, since there isn't much else to do, but the potential noise factor is making me waffle. basically, 400 bucks out the door for 5 nights interior is ridiculously cheap, and I'm willing to do that, but its going to be VERY low-frills I'm sure. I usually don't vascillate over cabin choices. Any thoughts? Quote
steverk Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 I had an interior, accessible room deck 8 on Rhapsody. They rearranged the deck chairs every night until about midnight. Otherwise, the noise was no problem. More recently, I was in room 8000 on Grandeur and noise was not an issue. I hope this helps! Quote

WAAAYTOOO Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 I can attest that the interior room on Grandeur are T.I.N.Y. …but I think $900 for a JS on a 5-nighter is a lot ! Me ? I’d probably take the inside….especially if you’re solo. khynzelman, teddy, AlohaLivin and 1 other 3 1 Quote
CrznTxn Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 Just finished our sailing on Grandeur yesterday and can say that the rooms are smaller but do have lots of storage space plus we are rarely in the rooms. We had an Ocean View and it was just great. We love the atmosphere of Grandeur and all the art and finish treatments that are not on the newer ships (more wood and less stainless steel and metal). Salvador and Shannon, the Diamond Lounge host and C&A host) are fantastic and we love to see them each time. Less hustle and bustle and the Centrum is a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the music and entertainment. The Solarium is also much less crowded than the other ships and is large and covered. Plus the Park Cafe is right there with it for pizza, salads and light fare. If you are solo, I agree with @WAAAYTOOOthat an Interior would be fine and give you more $$ for use on the ship. We will be onboard for a b2b in a few weeks, good to know the Diamond concierge is so good! Any idea who the suite concierge might be? We are so ready to see Lady G again after two cancelled cruises on her during the shutdown! WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote

Which is probably exactly what will happen. So I'm confirmed for the interior on Deck 4. First time on Lady G & I know I'll enjoy it regardless of the cabin type. thanks all. Lugnut Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 One of the things i like about the Grandeur is that, as coneyraven mentioned, the Centrum is somewhat the heart of daily activities. There are (relatively) quiet seating areas on several deck levels in the Centrum where one can watch the ocean go by while relaxing and reading. In May, out of Galveston, they had an egg drop contest that was quite interesting. Quote

I very much hope Shannon will still be there too since we are going to be going from diamond to diamond plus on the back to back on that ship and hope to have easy sailing with the quick change Quote
DoomSlayer Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 We sailed on Grandeur last month and had a wonderful time. I originally booked and inside cabin because that was really all that was available at the time I originally booked. However, I kept an eye on the inventory and about a week before the sail date, lots of staterooms reserved for larger parties opened up. I called my travel agent and was able to upgrade from a standard interior room to a "Spacious Ocean View" room on deck 8 for a good price. It was a larger room (normally up to 4 people) with a huge window. My wife and I loved it and enjoyed the extra space. I would defiantly recommend looking into this as an option if you are already comparing JS and Balcony rooms. It may not have the balcony, but it has a lot of room and a great view. Quote

We were on Grandeur in July with two of my wife's friends and they were upgraded to the Spacious Ocean View on deck 8 from their GTY Ocean View that was supposed to be on Deck 3 (we found it listed using the bar code trick on their set sail pass). It was as you said a much larger room and the window was huge. We tried to get this category room on our cruise last week but they were sold out, even back in July. Quote
