whitsmom reacted to Traveler in What should happen so we can safely resume cruising ?
I am living  in a place that is currently at the end of the first wave (and hopefully the last wave) so now we started  open facilities and services  steps by steps with some restrictions , that might give some clue how things can work  on a ship :
    Work place :
From March to end of April I was going to the office  were we maintained 1-2 % of the people to make sure everyone can work from home , on the last few weeks we increased  the numbers from 15% to  30% and  now 70% (people will work 3 days from office and 2 days from home).
The process - Every day each employee is filing online health declaration form  , in the parking garage I am wearing a face mask  and use alchogel , elevators to the reception were my temperature is being  taken using an ipad and a heat  sensitive camera , if there is a queue of people there are stickers on the floor to show were you need to stand . Once I am done with the temperature check  I am swapping my card so they can verify that I sign the declaration , after that I am getting a colored bracelet (each day different color) so I do not need to to go through this process again.. This is something that can be done also on the ship , the security can take your temperature at the morning and give you a daily bracelet . Alchogel again and to the office were I am taking off my mask . At the the   kitchen we suppose to wash our hands and  use disposable  gloves before touching any food or prepare a drink. in the meeting Rooms we suppose to have empty chair between each other. Lunch went from buffet style to take away in disposable trays were you can add also some prepacked salads.
    Shops :
Temperature is being taken before you can get in , alchogel station and gloves are available. shops are limited to a precedent that driven from number of available cashiers   , masks are require to be wear all the time.
    Restaurants and bars  :
If the bar/restaurants can contain more than 100 people they are allow to have up to 75% of their max capacity , tables should have a 4 feet distance between each other,  Mask is required to be wear until you are seated , from this point you can take them off . Only when you seat your table is being maid .
    Theaters:
Only online tickets are allowed , everyone that bought the tickets together can  seat together , between groups there should be an empty seat, that can work with RCL theaters also , maybe they will need to add another show or two
    Masks in public area :
People require to wear masks in public areas unless they are in a middle of sports activity or if the temperature outside is above 90 , a 60 $ fine can be given for people who caught not wearing one, currently its not highly forced but most of the people still wear  a mask.
    Beach /pools :
People allow to go to the beach and a six feet distance is expected between groups , masks are required but not heavily forced. Pools are open but the population is limited, water parks are still kept closed.
    Schools /kindergarten:
Schools are  100% opened as long as no new C19 cases are found which in that case the school can be closed for two weeks. older kids require to wear a mask while seating at the class , windows are kept open (while air condition is working).
    Flights :
Limit flights continued during all this period , from next month more and more companies starting again to operate , the main issue is that anyone that land here is required to get into  quarantine for two weeks . There is a discussion to lift the quarantine requirement as long you are flying to/from a "green country" which has lower level of the C19  cases such as Austria , Iceland , Seychelles, Greece , South Korea and some more .  Cruise might stats for places like Greece Islands ...
So far we are OK , but the status of the C19 is monitored very closely , if too  many cases are located in a neighborhood it might be quarantined for few days , if a case is found in a work place , the work place will be shut for two weeks.
For me wearing the mask outside is tolerable but I am very happy every time i can take it off.

I'm no sheep and I'm tired of hearing this. I have a family member who works in a hospital and sees a lot of death. I have a friend whose job the last few months was to tell people they were positive. Both of them have seen a lot of death. Death from people who were supposedly healthy.
This is my issue with people like you - just because I believe something doesn't mean I'm a sheep. Just because you disagree doesn't mean you're wrong.  Stop calling people like me a sheep and I'll refrain from calling people like you something worse. Wear the damn mask or don't and deal with the consequences. OR DON'T. Disagreeing is one thing - name calling is another.

I just don't understand why we can't disagree with respect.

Our favorite place is Maya Key... Has a beach, animal sanctuary, pool, good food and drinks, and some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever experienced.  We’ve been there 3 times and I can’t wait to go back!

    Perfect for families!!!

Just an add on to the mask vs. no mask question.
As an asthmatic, my ability to move air INTO my body is already compromised. Wearing a mask to protect others by limiting dispersion of droplets significantly impedes that already compromised ability. If it's a choice between ME being able to breathe sufficiently or providing a small amount of benefit to others, there's no debate here - the mask is not going to be worn.
Is that selfish? Maybe. But asking (or requiring) me to wear a mask that endangers my health is equally selfish. One selfish me vs. a multitude of selfishness by others - I think that puts me on the higher moral ground.

One bit of encouraging news is that the latest findings are that the virus doesn't seem to survive nearly as long as originally feared on public surfaces (tables, chairs, handrails, door handles, etc.).  This could be a huge difference-maker for estimated sailing restart dates.

According to this, (@matt blog) you can exchange your FCC for a refund:
Credits recieved from the third set of impacted sailings must be redeemed by January 1, 2021 and sail by April 30, 2022. In addition, the deadline to request to change a future cruise credit to a refund deadline is December 31, 2020.

When it comes to cruising I think the time to cruise will be different for everyone. Some will opt to cruise immediately, some will wait for the first few waves of cruises and see what happens, others won’t be cruising for quite some time.
The only thing that would cause me to be cautious about cruising is what would be the plan or course of action when someone inevitably has or catches CoVID 19 on a cruise.
Secondly, for me at least I’m not paying for a vacation that has face masks and restrictions. I know many people on the forum cruise multiple times a year but for me I’ll likely cruise once a year maybe once every two years. As such a vacation to me isn’t one that has limited capabilities.
That’s just my thoughts at least. Everyone has their different reasons to go or not to go.

It finally posted today to my CP. I’m able to take advantage of the great sale prices which left me with $400 left over! I decided to get The Key for $20.

I originally got the DBP with VOOM but since VOOM is included with The Key, I rebooked just the DBP. Also did Ultimate Dining and CocoCay Beach Club.
I still have $225 left and still have $100 to add for stock holder OBC.
I may splurge on a spa thing or buy really good champagne!
This one (October Symphony) better sail! Lol ????

We gave the go ahead to our TA to L&S our October New England-Canada cruise to October 2021.  I also called Delta yesterday and got an eCredit as the flights for next October are not available yet. While I am happy that we lost no money this the L&S, I am sad that we won't be cruising this year.

My wife and I do this.

As much as we want to sleep in on vacation, it's hard to readjust our body clocks.  We go out, try to find a cup of coffee somewhere, and explore.  We end with watching the sunrise.

I believe, the terminal does not open until 10:00 am and even if you could get into the terminal there is nothing to do nor see. Not sure what you could do that early in Miami to kill the time. We always get the the port the day before, stay in a nice hotel and get to the terminal no later than 10:00.

Years ago (after a Noro outbreak) we sailed on RCCL (can't remember which ship). The WJ buffet was there; however, you weren't allowed to serve yourself.  They are servers to put the serving on your plate as you held it.  This was also the first time that they started the hand sanitizer before entrance to the WJ (at least for us it was the first time).  I think that they will possibly do this once cruising starts back.  Some people complained (and some of the complainers were the ones who refused to use the hand sanitizer); however, I welcomed it so I didn't have to touch a serving handle that everyone else had touched.   I think some people just refuse to let someone else tell them what they can and can't do.

I just got the cancellation email and yes, you can Lift and Shift a cancelled cruise (which is what I wanted to know beforehand...)

    2. Lift and Shift: If you prefer to move your existing booking to a 2021 sailing – we’re happy to move you! We will price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category as your original sailing within 4 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date in 2021. For example, if you are moving from a July 30, 2020 sailing, you can move to a sailing that is the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category, and the sail date between June 30, 2021 – August 30, 2021.
    • Please contact your Travel Advisor or call us by June 10th to move to a new sailing. If we don’t hear from you, we will automatically issue your Future Cruise Credit.

I've read elsewhere that a good travel agent can handle this for you. If its all the same names on the cruise and FCC... they should just be able to apply all the FCC's to the same booking. May take a few phone calls to get worked out though.
Good luck and hope it gets worked out for you.
    Welcome to the board.

I can see the WJ changing to a cafeteria style eatery, grab a tray and silverware and have servers place the food on you plate as it moves down the line.  I wouldn't mind a food court station, breakfast and lunch serving fast food type options. A combination of the two would be great.  Also to maximize use of the MDR for lunch and dinner have one of the dining rooms with a limited menu that could be served quickly for those who would want a full meal, this would ease the crowding of the WJ.

I think it is hard for people to be told what to do. I honestly hate most sanitizers as their smell irritates my allergies, however I will endure it if it means getting back to cruising without much hassle. Making WJ a new "pay restaurant" would be a big mistake. It would cause even more people to eat in the MDR and the crowds would be atrocious! There are many cruisers, some loyal to RCCL many not, who won't cruise with RCCL if there isn't more than one free food place where they can get more than just snacks. They would choose other lines. I think that any changes would be temporary and that only loyal RCCL cruisers will be ok with dealing with them. Just my thoughts.
