  2. Hey dj. I wanted to respond to your post. I know I did earlier in the week. I know you know that RCCL is doing the best they can with a terrible situation. Nobody can help the fact that 3 terrible storms, 2 of which hit the same area, have wreaked havoc on the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and SW Atlantic Ocean in the past 3 weeks. It seems the major cruise lines that serve these areas have really stepped up to help save lives and to do the best they can for their passengers. If it were me, I'd be bummed too. I've had one vacation rescheduled by a hurricane, and the replacement turned out to be one of the best trips of my life. I hope you can work out to take full advantage of the discounted cruise they've offered.

    Ship Time

When in doubt ask the crew just as you step off the ship in port and as @KLAconQueso stated, watch your smartphone. I disable automatic time zones in settings and fix it to ship time. To the general question do they change ship time? The answer is... it depends. Ships most often stay on the time of the departure city. While Nassau tracks the eastern time zone year round, a lot of islands in the Eastern Caribbean do not observe daylight savings. Half the year they align to eastern time, half the year they don't but many are actually in the Atlantic time zone. When I had a contract on St Thomas this was very confusing for coworkers back home trying to schedule meetings. This also causes confusion for cruisers. They take a cruise in the summer and islands are aligned to ship time then someone else takes the same cruise six months later and the ship time is different for the same ports. On Grandeur out of Baltimore they changed the ship clock in the middle of the night as we approached Bermuda. The day we left they changed the ship clock back that night. That tends to be rare though and most of the time ship clock is fixed the whole cruise, unless you cruise the weekend that daylight savings starts or ends. On the Grandeur they put a note on the bed as well as stating on the front page of the cruise compass. They also mentioned in at all the shows and entertainment. Transatlantic and transpacific change ship time mid-cruise. No sense arriving in the US and being 5 hours off or vice versa. Most cruises though, do not change ship time mid cruise. Confused yet? Fortunately for you the Bahamas follows eastern time and they do observe daylight savings time so the Bahamas is the same time as Florida year round.

    Ship Time

... and will usually also be noted on a slip they leave with your cruise compass in your stateroom alerting you to adjust your clocks! Where people usually get mixed up is when they go by the cell phones and use them in port where they sync to the local time rather than ship time. The most common place I know this happens is in Cozumel.

  6. Did you buy them at Merry Go Round? That's where everybody got theirs in the 80's where I lived.

  7. With the damage to the ports being so recent, in fairness to RCI I don't think they know yet what ports you will be visiting. If the existing ones are reopened then great, if they aren't then RCI will have to substitute alternate ports. With your cruise being almost 2 months out it's hard to know which ports will have reopened by then.

  8. This is why people need to consider travel insurance. Read the contract, cover your investment. Just the facts.

  9. Just the facts: https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/content/en_US/pdf/CTC_Not_For_BR.pdf To be clear, you can argue what is and isn't fair all you wish. But if you want to preface something with "just the facts" then the fact is this is the document you agreed to abide by. Fairness is subjective, not factual.

  10. Wow. Maybe some bad publicity and shame might change their mind, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I would definitely post on Twitter and other social media about this. That occasionally gets results. This is a really tone-deaf bean counter decision.

  11. Best thing to do is reserve tickets via the Cruise Planner ahead of your departure date; just pick the specific day and show time you want. If you find they're not available at all on the Cruise Planner (earliest availability is 90 days out, IIRC), you can check when you board but that could be a sign all the shows are "sold out". if that happens, you can always get on the standby line about 45 minutes before show time and see if any held seats open up.

    Introduce yourself!

Hi fellow cruisers. Paul from Melbourne Australia My wife Karen and I come over to the US as much as we can, average once a year since 2008. Love the place, around Florida is our favourite. We are soon to be on our fourth cruise, 1st was the Oasis Eastern 7 days Caribbean 2012, next was the Allure to the Western part 7 days in 2014 then the last was on the Liberty up the Eastern side of Canada 9days 2015. Our next is 2 Dec 17 12 days back to the Caribbean on the Athem. All our trips have been all around two weeks due to our busy work tempo (I'm Army, wife is IT Lead Consultant) so we slip a cruise in as much as we can. This year we have extended or time frame to 5wks. I must admit I never really wanted to go on a cruise, however this thought was one of my biggest mistakes, we now can't get enough. It's really the $$$ that's stops us to a certain degree, by the time you add flights etc over. My wife and I love the stop start life of cruiseing one minute you can be relaxed with a drink near the pool next your at a show, then your off looking around parts of the world then your back on the ship with an ice cream sitting watching the sun go down. WOW.!!!!!!! We fill our normal days here in Aust when we can, 4wding, fishing off the beach and Kart Racing. Take care everyone, hopefully we can play apart in this cruising family. Regards Paul and Karen. Pics of my oasis (& fishing) Fraser Is QLD

  13. And how do the pumps pump fuel on board with no electricity. And where do the provisions come from? Mother nature has sure struck a cruel blow . I feel really bad for those who have lost everything. And it is sad and unfortunate for those who are vacationing.

  18. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruise-ships/itinerary-updates we're sailing on oasis 10/8, st Martin replaced with Nassau. We were refunded on our st Martin shore excursion and there are no shore excursions offered (yet?) for Nassau. With Maria threatening Puerto Rico, likely that'll be off the itinerary soon. Not clear if RC is offering cruise credit for 10/8 oasis or not, but I'll still go even if we only stop at Nassau and Labadee. What are the chances of oct 8 sailing of oasis being cancelled? non refundable airfare and hotel before and after cruise will make rescheduled cruise pricey, but I won't complain considering the devastation and suffering of millions in hurricane affected areas. It's also an accepted risk taken by saving $ on the non refundable reservations. i am impressed with RC's humanitarian efforts to provide relief of supplies and transportation to affected locations. Makes me happy to accept itinerary changes, or rescheduling if necessary, and not demand refunds, but rather applaud RC and be happy my vacation $ assists RC humanitarian efforts.

  19. I got an update from Capt. Bob Cass, who owns and runs Soualiga Destinations in St. Maarten. This was in response to an email I sent yesterday simply to express my hope that he and his crew were all well and safe: He also said that he thinks Maria might pass to the south and may not be too bad. Granted, that's now two days ago and the track has been updated, but I didn't hear any comments in last night's news broadcast about St. Maarten being under threat, only St. Thomas and Puerto Rico. Might just be US-based focus of that broadcast, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that he's right.

    Cruise Itinerary

I appreciate all of your comments. Just FYI this is not my first cruise but this is the first one that the itinerary has been changed. I appreciate all the recommendations for things to do in each of the ports. This is the first cruise for my 2 children and their family. I booked this particular cruise because of the ports. Thus my disappointment for Hati. You can't fault me for this and my feeling that I could have spent a lot less and still visited a beach. As I mentioned I appreciate all your comments and recommendations of activities. Thank you Cari

  21. We sailed in April 2017 and had room 12300. We had a great view of the NYC skyline as we sailed out. The wife did a vlog of our room with the view from port about 2:00 in. There were some rough seas one night, but it was because we ran into a thunderstorm by the Carolinas that had put down tornados on land. Even with that, it wasn't too bad at all. We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance by EWR for a night before and then Hilton Penn Station for a night after. The Renaissance was a nicer hotel, but the Hilton was hard to beat for easily getting into NYC. We took Uber to and from the port and had no problems. Overall we really enjoyed Anthem and will definitely sail on her again.

  22. Great song! Great band! You can't find three guys, who play together in one band, as talented as they are! Geddy and Neil are arguably the best ever to play their instruments.
