  1. Thanks, good call. I cancelled water bottles and will be refunded.you saved me $160!
  2. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruise-ships/itinerary-updates we're sailing on oasis 10/8, st Martin replaced with Nassau. We were refunded on our st Martin shore excursion and there are no shore excursions offered (yet?) for Nassau. With Maria threatening Puerto Rico, likely that'll be off the itinerary soon. Not clear if RC is offering cruise credit for 10/8 oasis or not, but I'll still go even if we only stop at Nassau and Labadee. What are the chances of oct 8 sailing of oasis being cancelled? non refundable airfare and hotel before and after cruise will make rescheduled cruise pricey, but I won't complain considering the devastation and suffering of millions in hurricane affected areas. It's also an accepted risk taken by saving $ on the non refundable reservations. i am impressed with RC's humanitarian efforts to provide relief of supplies and transportation to affected locations. Makes me happy to accept itinerary changes, or rescheduling if necessary, and not demand refunds, but rather applaud RC and be happy my vacation $ assists RC humanitarian efforts.
  3. I called in after final payment, about 1 mo before departure date. I have no idea what's the best time, only did this once and it worked out.
  4. I paid $160 for 2 cases of 1-liter bottles delivered to my stateroom (4 of us). Seemed like a good idea to have lots and lots of water, even tho the upcharge on water is large at $3.33 per liter, but I wouldn't be surprised if smaller 16oz bottles cost $5 once on the ship. Of course we can drink as much water and juice as we like in the dining halls and stay hydrated without buying bottled water, but I just like the idea of lots of bottled water in stateroom. Good idea on building up a supply in stateroom, tho. I might try that next time, instead of pre-buying cases. Oh yeah - another good idea for having bottled water in stateroom - take with you on shore excursions, stay hydrated off the ship too!
  5. What's great about a 4 sea-day itinerary? Lots of booze? I don't like to drink much the day before shore excursions - gotta get up early and don't want to be hung over.
  6. I bought the unlimited drinks and voomone for my wife and myself, 7 day RC Oasis cruise. $475 * 2. Two cases of water $82 * 2. Each of my two kids got the soda and voomone package, $142 * 2. That's $1,398 added to the cost of the cruise. I see why they do this, gets the base price of the cruise low. Hard to imagine drinking $67 of booze per day ($475/7) each. The voomone internet is ~$10/day of it, so $57/day of booze, still a lot. We won't drink 6+ drinks / day each, maybe 3 or 4, so I'm going to lose a little. Why do this? I see diligent passengers can take advantage of 2 bottles of wine taken onboard into stateroom, plus look for deals, like 2 for 1s and free drinks while onboard and not buy the drink package and spend far less than $57/day/pp on booze. The main reason I bought it is for the carefree experience. Makes the cruise closer to an all inclusive cruise. I'm not going to drink to get my money's worth, that'll lead to hangovers and then not having fun on excursions. I prebought the shore excursions too for 2 reasons: discounted + not worrying about $ onboard. I don't want to spend time onboard adding up drink costs and figuring out how to save money, and how much I can afford to do. I do all those stressful decisions ahead of time, then enjoy the cruise worryfree. That's my $0.02. Question: 2 bottles of wine carryon.... is that per person or per stateroom? Its per stateroom (https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2016/02/04/bringing-wine-your-royal-caribbean-cruise). K, I might do this too, not to save $, but just to have in stateroom. The drink package doesn't mean free bottles of wine!
  7. Thank you for sharing, opens our eyes to what can happen. Your story has a happy ending, glad you made it home safely. With thousands of passengers forced out into an evacuating city with all flights cancelled, there must have been some passengers completely stranded, no flights, no hotels, no car rentals available, what would you do? Many other cruises stayed at sea until the storm passed. That wouldn't be so bad, and obviously these cruises put the passenger safety ahead of profits. You'd think safety of passengers to be #1 priority, and dropping passengers off into an evacuating city isn't safe. I agree it should have dropped off those that wanted to be dropped off, then headed back out to sea out of the storms path, or to a safe port out of the path. The cruise ship didn't stay in Miami, so why and whatever original plans it had couldn't be fulfilled, so why not haul passengers in danger out of there? Doesn't make sense what they did in this case. I won't get on a cruise with my family and put them in danger if I think the cruise line is going to put us in harms way because profits are at risk. The entire business is at risk if nobody will cruise - no customers, no business.
  8. Upcoming Oasis cruise on Oct 8 2017 still says: Date Port Arrive Depart Activity 08-Oct Orlando (Port Canaveral) 4:30 PM 09-Oct Cruising Cruising 10-Oct Cruising Cruising 11-Oct Philipsburg, St. Maarten 8:00 AM 5:00 PM Docked 12-Oct San Juan, Puerto Rico 7:00 AM 2:00 PM Docked 13-Oct Labadee, Haiti 9:30 AM 5:00 PM Docked 14-Oct Cruising Cruising 15-Oct Orlando (Port Canaveral) 6:00 AM What will happen to this cruise? We're booked for this and are wondering what the future holds. Will we just stay at sea or go somewhere else? Is it just St. Maarten that's in complete crisis, or will all of the port locations be in jeopardy? Its such a shame, because like tiny260 said, they need the tourism $ to rebuild. I feel bad even going on this cruise - these people are in crisis and we're showing up as tourists. On the other hand, they need the tourism $ now more than ever.
  9. We booked a standard oceanview balcony on Oasis 7 day cruise and got a normal balcony room on deck 6. Then called in and asked what upgrades were available. Options were: bigger balcony for $1000 more, JS for $2500 more, or guaranteed suite for $1700 more. I think the suggestion that you *might* get upgraded to a grand suite is a hoax, has ANYONE actually gotten a GS with a suite guarantee? I would never pay more for a guaranteed suite, because you're going to get a JS, but I was happy to save $700 to let them pick the suite. There are no bad JS rooms. Also, they didn't offer the guaranteed suite right away, and I'm not sure if it was available online or not. I think it wasn't, so one trick to getting offered it is to call in and ask for it. I didn't ask specifically for it, just asked about upgrades and it started with the bigger balcony and I said "Anything else? I really want a bigger room, not a bigger balcony." Then she offered the JS for $2500 more and when I was hesitating on deciding, she said there is also a suite guaranteed option.
