So my husband’s birthday is next week and I’m struggling with what to get him this year. I saw one of Matt’s videos that talked about the barber shop onboard and what a nice experience this is.

Tell me…do you think this would make a nice gift?

I have not tried the barber shop onboard so I am also curious to hear if others have.

I will say that a nice trip to the barber shop on land is always good a way to spoil yourself, so if they are good on the ship I imagine it would also be a nice experience.

This is interesting...

I seldom use barber shops, but one thing I've never experienced is a barber-shave.  I can never shave close enough to suit me, and I've often wondered if a genuine hot-shave from a barber would be better.  🤔

That would suit me as a nice gift.

Last time I went to a barber for a shave and haircut, I remembered how awesome it was to go to a barber instead of supercuts.

Generally, I would say that a visit to the onboard barber would be a great gift.  I only have reservations to my suggestion because I  have never used the Ships' Barbers before.

How about pre-purchasing a spot in a Texas Hold em or blackjack event?  That would be fun if your husband likes gambling.

All men are different, so I can only speak for myself but I can't stand going to the barber. I would not want to do it on a cruise ship either. However, maybe your husband enjoys it, I guess some men do.

Maybe just get him a nice evening that you would not have otherwise indulged in, like Chef's Table or something along those lines.

I was expecting the hot towel, straight razor experience.

The real barbershop experience is difficult to find.  The haircut of my youth and early adulthood included the clipper cut, hot foam with a straight razor trim, hot towel, and witch hazel finish.  C-19 shutdowns killed many of the traditionalist barbershops unless you're near a US military installation.

I would think just going to a specialty dining would be good for the birthday. From what I know the ship barber can be a little pricey. I know the specialty dining can as well. but they say the key to a man's heart is his stomach.  Or maybe try to book an excursion he may like without him knowing.  Don't know if he is into it, but even the ship tours or the galley tours are fun if he is into that as well.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. I thought it might be something he wouldn't get for himself, but that he would enjoy.

I had a high and tight flattop for 28 years in the military...Barber shops doesn't do a thing for me.  However, a specialty dinner and spending the rest of the night in our room with Barb...Ya that would do it for me!!!

Great feedback...thank you!

I booked a Barber-shave on board the Odyssey. I was expecting the hot towel, straight razor experience. What I got was a close shave with a DISPOSABLE razor and a hard sell on skin care products...I would not recommend this for your husband.

Oh my goodness. I was totally expecting a hot towel and straight razor. Thank you so much for letting me know!

And the stomach is definitely the way to my husband's heart! Thanks for the suggestions.

What a thoughtful idea to think of your hubby.  Things he might like:

Speciality Dining

Massage or spa service

Flowrider lesson?!!!!

Chef's Table...you would be sharing the experience with 10 other people

Ship or Galley Tour

A Private Excursion learning or seeing something he likes

If he's the romantic type, how about Room Service with his favorite meal, drink, and dessert?

Years ago I got a haircut and shave on one of the cruise ships.  I loved it but I always love when women give me attention.  Just make sure when you book it you request a woman so they do not match a man with a man;  it is just not the same.  I like going to a barber ship but the experience is different.  The other think you might consider is a pedicure for him.  For one of my birthdays my cousin purchased me a pedicure.  I though it was strange but it was delightful.  I would love to have more of them but I cannot bring myself to spend the money on that.

Oh man I miss that so much!

Dinner at Chops, nice bottle of Cabernet, broadway type show, and then back to the cabin 🥰.

Pedicure? No, I’m ticklish.

Massage? No, don't touch me.

Flow Rider lesson? No, told old for that.

Why not ask him what he would like?

On Liberty i made a last minute appt. for a haircut. After an hour, she said my face needed moisturizing next thing I know my face is getting a massage I didn't even ask for..😂

She said my face really needs it and tried to sell me the products, just like after the massages. It was ok, but nothing special. I'm sure they have several types of add-ons or packages.

I liked the Flowrider lessons, specialty dining, and the ships tour was really cool!
