Hope for my YOLO

Don't know if it's post cruise depression (just got off Saturday) or @Lovetocruise2002's yolo avatar, but just booked a 4 night on Navigator for October (to hold us over till the 12 night on Adventure in May). Anyway, when I sprung this on my wife she said she can't clear it with her job until tomorrow. This 1 day wait is painful like waiting for cruise day.

Please, fingers crossed everyone. Thanks.

Still waiting, but looking good so far. DW got the OK from a co-worker to cover for her that week. But it's a very low tech office and her boss (who is really very nice) said she keeps the vacation schedule at home, will check it and text back later. I think she only works a half day today so hopefully will finalize this afternoon. ?  Then I'll have to check airfare.

Oh, I think this was, however, meant to be. When I looked at this cruise yesterday I was able to get a hump balcony on deck 8 (Navigator), 1 cabin off center hump. I grabbed it and then went right back on to see if there was a center hump available on another deck. It then showed that all midship OV Balcony cabins were sold out. Timing really is everything. Someone must have just cancelled and I got on at the exact right time. Woohoo!

Vacation schedule kept at home??? Sounds likes conspiracy, the boss heard your wife say there was a great price so now she’s trying to pounce on it ?

Yup, odd but true. Anytime anyone puts in for time off they have to wait until the boss goes home to check. Quirky, but DW loves it there.

Is the boss going home to ask the significant other if it's okay? ? ...I can here it now...honey, can so and so take a couple days off! ?

?. Actually her husband is in the same office. He's the doctor and she is the office manager (usually not a good situation for employees, but they are both terrific). She really keeps the vacation stuff at home. Go figure. Maybe because THEY travel A LOT, so she wants it on hand when making their own plans.

Both Dan and I are fortunate enough to have jobs where we don't have to ask anyone for permission to take off.  I sometimes forget just how lucky we are, in that way.  We have no children in school so the time of year is irrelevant and we can take off whenever we want to.

Thats how you get the best deals being able to go anytime is so key when it comes to the cruise pricing game.. I am also lucky.. Currently I was looking at some cruises in September and Allure is so cheap. They are offering a junior suite for like $1100 a person and with a casino discount I could get that down.. But most people cant take off in September so timing really is everything with cruises.

This is so true, Wife works at a school, so can only take off when they are out of school. I'm like @WAAAYTOOO I can take off whenever I want.

Told her if she got a different job we could cruise more and for less money since we wouldn't have to book at peck calendar dates.

She didn't buy it

SUCCESS--sort of! DW spoke to boss today who said--as long as we have coverage in the office (which DW already arranged with her coworkers) it should be fine but let me check the schedule when I get home and I'll text you. Office closed at 2 today and no text yet.  But DW said 'I'm sure it's fine-and they are out on vacation next week. Book the air and then it will have to be fine". Looks like we are good to go???

Based on previous threads about airfare---Some flights would actually be deal breakers, but I see a couple of flights that are not all that horrible. Do I book those now or take a chance on waiting for the 90 mark? Thanks.

Flying there the day before, so Sunday Oct 20, returning Friday Oct 25. It's been crazy, the discount airlines come out to more than the majors if we want to pick our seat or have a carry on. Our last 2 trips we were able to pay with miles, but not many left now.

Hmm...I think I would still watch it for a few weeks.

I've heard / read that Sunday is the most expensive day of the week to fly. Might want to see if you can score a better rate flying down Saturday and then getting a decent but inexpensive hotel for the extra day so you don't end up eating the savings and then some. Maybe also play around with flying home the following Saturday, I want to say that airlines gives some savings when you stay through a Friday.

Thanks..will definitely look into those suggestions. It's just weird to us to go through all the flights and hotels for only a 4 night cruise. I used to say "why would anyone do that". Never say never. This cruise came up out of nowhere and I'm excited about it, so have to take the bad with the good. I'm rationalizing by telling myself that 4 nights cruising with some hassle and extra cost is still better than no nights cruising!

We’re going even crazier for our cruise this coming December on another line. It leaves on 12/1 which is the Sunday after thanksgiving. As that weekend is really expensive to fly, we’re actually flying down on Thanksgiving and doing dinner down there. Saves about a thousand dollars on flights by spending two extra nights down there.

I hear ya. That scenario can very well play out here also since the cruise itself is Monday to Friday, giving us weekends before and after to play with.

We’re on Oasis on 12/1. We are also on Brilliance from 11/25-11/30 so we’re driving from Tampa to Miami, sending the night in Miami and boarding Oasis on 12/1.  A rather round-about S2S but nevertheless, our first one !  Flying to Tampa and then home from Miami.

It's the bad influence of all these enablers! ?

I thought the same thing last New Years, airfare was sky high and we went for a 5 night cruise.  Now I just booked Oasis for a 4 night sailing next year and couldn't be more excited about that too!  Although I completely blame @Andrew72681 for that booking!

If anything blame my inability to select the length of cruise filters on the website. Otherwise I’d only see the 7 day ones I was looking for.
