  1. While anything is possible, I doubt you can get a complete refund...at least in the US.  I don't know about other countries.

Royal Caribbean has covered themselves in their terms and conditions.

You can select your country and read here:  https://www.royalcaribbean.com/guest-terms/primary-country-of-residence/

Here are the specifics for cruises booked in the United States as they relate to itinerary changes .

    Quote

    7. CANCELLATION, DEVIATION, OR SUBSTITUTION BY CARRIER:

    a. Cancellation by Carrier Generally. Carrier has the right, without prior to notice to Guest, to cancel all or any portion of this Agreement at any time prior to Guest boarding the Vessel for the Cruise or commencing a Land Tour, whichever occurs first. In such case, Guest’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be for the issuance of a refund or future cruise credit from Third Party Reseller for all or the proportionate value of the cancelled Cruise or CruiseTour, as set forth in Third Party Reseller’s applicable terms and conditions.  Unless otherwise provided herein, Guest agrees that a refund or future cruise credit from Third Party Reseller shall be Guest’s sole and exclusive remedy and Carrier shall have no liability for damages or compensation of any kind.  Carrier’s right to cancel this Agreement shall be in addition to Carrier’s right to cancel the Cruise or CruiseTour.

    b. Deviations by Carrier. Carrier may for any reason at any time and without prior notice, cancel, advance, postpone or deviate from any scheduled sailing, port of call, destination, lodging or any activity on or off the Vessel, or substitute another vessel or port of call, destination, lodging or activity. Carrier shall not be liable for any claim whatsoever by Guest, including but not limited to loss, compensation or refund, by reason of such cancellation, advancement, postponement, or deviation.  For the avoidance of doubt, the terms of this Section 7.b apply equally with respect to either a Cruise or CruiseTour.

    c. Cancellation or Deviation by Carrier Caused by Circumstances Beyond Carrier’s Control. If Carrier’s performance hereunder is, hindered or adversely affected, or in the opinion of Carrier or the Master is likely to be hindered or adversely affected, in whole or in part, as a result of war, hostilities, blockages, prevailing weather conditions (e.g., tropical cyclones or the presence of ice), labor conflicts, strikes onboard or ashore, breakdown of Vessel, congestion, docking difficulties, medical or lifesaving emergencies, declared pandemics, public health emergencies or outbreak of communicable disease, quarantines, national or regional emergencies, seizure under legal process or any other cause whatsoever, or if Carrier or the Master considers that for any reason whatsoever, proceeding to, attempting to enter, or entering or remaining at the port on an itinerary may expose the Vessel to risk or loss or damage or delay, Guest and her baggage may be landed at any port, or if the Guest has not embarked on the Cruise or commenced the Land Tour the entire Cruise may be canceled, at which time the responsibility of Carrier shall cease.

    d. Early Termination Due to Mechanical Failures. In the event that a Cruise (or the cruise component of a CruiseTour) is canceled or terminated early due to mechanical failures, Guest shall have a right to: (i) a full refund of the Cruise Fare from Third Party Reseller if the entire Cruise is canceled, or a partial refund if the Cruise is terminated early; (ii) transportation selected by Carrier to the Vessel’s scheduled port of disembarkation or the Guest’s home city (as determined by Carrier), if Guest has travelled to the Vessel; and (iii) lodging selected by Carrier, if disembarkation and an overnight stay in an unscheduled port are required due to the Cruise or cruise component of a CruiseTour being cancelled or terminated early because of such mechanical failures.

    e. Substitution and Transfers. Carrier has the right to substitute the Vessel for any other vessel or means of transportation, regardless of whether owned or operated by the Carrier, and to re-berth Guest thereon, without liability or compensation to Guest of any kind. Carrier shall further have the right to transfer Guest and/or Guest’s luggage to other carriers, whether by air, land or sea toward the final port of disembarkation.  Transfers for the convenience of Guest, or in compliance with a government order pursuant to Section 7.f, shall be at the sole and exclusive cost to Guest.

    f. Compliance with Government Orders. Carrier shall have the right to comply with any orders, recommendations, or directions whatsoever given by any governmental entity or by persons purporting to act with such authority, without liability for loss, compensation of any kind whatsoever or refund to Guest from Carrier.

  2. Something to remember...just because you can put a bid in for an upgrade doesn't mean there are actually cabins available.  Royal is all about maximizing their profits, so they hedge their bets for any no-shows and last minute cancellations.

In my opinion, the glory days of Royal Up were during the restart.  Now that ships are sailing full, not many are getting their bids accepted.

    Actually Air2Sea is a Consolidator.

"Consolidators have contracts with airlines to buy airfare in bulk. They are negotiated at a lower rate, letting the consolidators sell them for less than the publicly listed fares for the same flight"

That is part of the problem in that even when you pick flights from them, they are only a soft reservation and normally not actually ticketed until around actual final payment date.

    This ^^

We've used Air2Sea a few times since we started traveling in 2019.  The ticket prices were within our budget and the "get you to the ship" part of it comforted us.  Not having to pay for the flights until the cruise final payment was nice, too....until we booked a flight to Europe that we couldn't chose seats on until we paid in full.

Now that we have some traveling experience under our belts, we've come to realize that we are able to book flights better ourselves.  We can choose the class, route, and fare we want to pay for (even within the basic classes such as "Economy" there are different fares).  We always check Air2Sea when we fly for cruises now, but when comparing apples to apples, we haven't found Air2Sea to be any cheaper.  This may be because we are not flying first class...ymmv.

We are flying to Heathrow for a cruise this coming fall (on another cruise line), and we were able to book flights cheaper than their Cruise/Air packages.....and non-stop from Boston at that.  The only east coast, non-stop options they offered were from the NYC area, but we're a couple hours north of Boston.

There is an informative thread about Cruise Air on the other cruise forum.

***Off topic a bit:  The "get you to the ship guarantee" went out the window for us last fall when our connecting flight in Lisbon, Portugal was canceled.  I was on the phone with Air2Sea while my wife and I were in the long "queue" at the ticket desk.  Air2Sea could not verify that the flight was canceled, and until they could, I was told there was nothing that could be done as far as getting us on another flight unless the airline did it....then the call disconnected because all cell service/wifi dropped when we approached the ticket counter.  The airline ended up rebooking us on a flight the next morning as well as giving us hotel and food vouchers.  To Air2Sea's credit, they did follow up with me to make sure we were all set, but the whole experience didn't leave us with a warm fuzzy feeling.

Wow, Teddy…what an awesome opportunity.  Sounds like you guys are really in the boonies.  Will be a good place to hide out from the demons who came/come through the vortex. 😂😜

    lol

Yea, our camp is way out there...quite removed from things, including cell service (which we like).

We weren't sure if we were going to be able to get in this past weekend.  With the early spring, the lakes aren't safe to take snowmobiles across but the roads could have had too much snow to get a truck down.  Our timing was excellent, because with the melting yesterday and today along with the rain coming tomorrow, Mud Season will slam into us.  The roads won't be passable for a month or so.

  5. We have an off grid camp that was smack dab in the middle of the path.

It took some work to get there because it’s very isolated, way in the woods and still winter, but we made it.  20 miles off the tar road and we were able to get within a half mile of camp.  Thank goodness for 4wd, good tires, self recovery equipment, and the fact that the road had been plowed a few times this winter for logging…..and also for one of our kids who suggested we get eclipse glasses six months ago.

Unlike most people in the state, we were totally alone when we saw it.   It’s the first eclipse we’ve seen in our 55 years.

It was neat to hear coyotes yipping and geese honking when the sun was covered.  All the birds went silent, too.

In the negative column was the drive home.  A 3-1/2 to 4 hour drive took us just under 9 hours.   We saw plates from 32 different states.

  6. GTY is a Guaranteed Cabin.  It’s an option when booking to let Royal Caribbean chose your cabin.   You can chose the basic category….interior, ocean view, balcony, suite, but they place you in a cabin.

It’s typically cheaper (but not 100% of the time), however one must be satisfied with having a cabin anywhere on the ship.  No takesies backsies.   Occasionally there will be an internet post from someone who booked a guaranteed cabin and was dissatisfied with the cabin they got.

There are instances when people who were assigned their cabin and were able to call and get a different location, but the replacement cabin must be in the exact same category as the one assigned.

  7. I dragged my wife up for a Battle of the Sexes in the Star Lounge on Voyager a couple years ago.  She was mortified at first, but then we both had a ball.  We participate in a lot more things ever since then.

I can’t get her to audition for Love and Marriage though….although she agrees we’d do pretty well.  I always take note of what she’s wearing just in case she ever changes her mind. 🙂

We’re at 25 years married, but it’s the second go around for both of us…so technically we’ve each been married longer…😁
