Cactus527 Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 I was just browsing through the Cruise Planner for my September 2023 Independence OTS sailing and found a pickleball clinic being offered onboard! The best part: free RC hat and the chance to purchase RC-branded pickleball merchandise. If you're interested, check out your CP under "Onboard Activities." Kathleen and Matt 1 1 Quote
smokeybandit Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 I know it's popular, but the sports courts seem to be dominated by pickleball anymore. Quote
teddy Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 Damn. $70 to play pickle ball?!? Pattycruise 1 Quote
Montemy2419 Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 I would love to learn how to play but for $70 I think I could find that locally for more than 1 hour of instruction. Reigert2008 1 Quote
Gilley Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 I’m interested in learning to play pickle ball. Not sure if I’m willing to cough up $70/. Maybe I can get the basics from YouTube as it seems that is what the $70 will cover. USCG Teacher 1 Quote
Gilley Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 I have a sailing in October on Liberty and it doesn’t show any pickle ball activities. Maybe it’s too early or just not offered. Quote

smokeybandit Posted August 13, 2023 Report Posted August 13, 2023 People will eat that up though. I bet it is quite popular. Wait, maybe they misspelled Sorrento's as "Pickleball" on that survey! Gilley, Colombia20102018, Cactus527 and 2 others 5 Quote
Geezer Of The Seas Posted August 14, 2023 Report Posted August 14, 2023 Pickleball Clinic. New name for the ship's medical facility? Hospital ER's and urgent care clinics are doing gangbusters business related to pickleball. Cactus527 1 Quote
Va4fam Posted August 14, 2023 Report Posted August 14, 2023 Didn't they used to offer Beginner Pickleball sessions for free? Maybe they should include a racquet, $ 70 pp seems quite steep. Quote
smokeybandit Posted August 14, 2023 Report Posted August 14, 2023 I just saw a commercial for Sketchers pickleball shoes. Cactus527 1 Quote

Fuzzywuzzy Posted August 24, 2023 Report Posted August 24, 2023 Pickleball is really taking off, Im not surprised it's showing up in whatever fashion on cruise ships. Staying trendy and current I guess. Quote

Babsy47 Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 We are signed up for out next cruise in September. Can’t imagine it’s worth the price, but it was hubby’s only request so . . . Cactus527 1 Quote
Colombia20102018 Posted August 25, 2023 Report Posted August 25, 2023 Is this in addition to the free slots or is RC eliminating those? Quote

Reigert2008 Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 Saw this in my planner for a Wonder of the Seas cruise and thought it was too pricey for wha it is. Glad to see I’m not the only one! we try and go to the early open sessions and just hit the ball around. We’re not trying to compete! You’d think for that price you would get a paddle to keep. Maybe not a RCI one, but something more than a hat. We bought ourselves a pretty nice set of paddles for $20. Quote
ScottD Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 Saw one of the clinics on Oasis last week- it was packed. So I guess, as usual, someone is paying for it Quote
Xaa Posted October 11, 2023 Report Posted October 11, 2023 You get a 1 hour lesson and then 30 minutes of dedicated play time. What would you expect a 1 hour lesson to cost on a cruise ship? Quote
Babsy47 Posted October 12, 2023 Report Posted October 12, 2023 We did this on the Navigator last week. We ended up paying just under $80 for two people with some sale along the way. They taught us how to score the game, the rules, and provided basic instruction. We ended up playing with another couple, and we had about 1.5 hours. It was good fun!
