Purchasing C&A Status

Recommended Posts

Many airlines offer the option to pay for a status level. Any experts know if RCCL is considering such an option?

We’re about 4 points away from D+ and would like to enjoy the benefits on our next cruise versus having to wait for the cruise after that sailing.  For a reasonable amount per point I would be willing to pay.  TIA.

Or, since your location is Florida, look for the cheapest last-minute short cruise you can find (2, 3 or 4 nights) and one of you book it solo in an inside. That would give one of you the points you need for D+, and the other piggy-backs the status.

We did this when we were 4 points away from Diamond. Hopped on the cheapest 4-night cruise we could find since we live an hour from PC before going on our next longer cruise on a bigger ship.

It seems like this question comes up about once a month. As others have already said, Royal doesn't sell points. You've gotta sail to earn.

Unlike airline programs (or hotels for that matter) status with Royal is kept for life under the current rules. Thus, if Royal was selling C&A points, I'd expect the per-point cost to be based on their most expensive sailing of the year, for a balcony, and the expected onboard spend for that cabin. Points would probably be at least $2,000 each to purchase based on a very quick price check on their website. Royal wouldn't be basing the per-point cost on a transatlantic, aboard a Vision-class, which seems to be the general expectation for people asking this question.

If things go according to plan I'll be 2 points from D+ by mid-July. If only we had cheap 2 or 3 nighters here in Europe. Sigh... Can you believe tge 3-night Symphony cruise before her trans-Atlantic in October costs more than the 7-night itinerary in the couple of weeks before? Nearly $900 pp for the cheapest cabin!

I don't check Europe prices but judging by Florida pricing, I'll believe anything these days.

By dumb luck, the numbers worked out in our favor this time. After our June 4th cruise we'll be exactly 7 points from D+. Unfortunately we may not be able to cruise again until next March but we'll see.

Maybe a B2B cruise is something to consider.  If you go to the loyalty desk during the first cruise of the B2B, they can upgrade your status for the second cruise.

I wouldn’t fret about moving from Diamond to Diamond plus since you are going to move on your next cruise anyway. Even with a “cheap” four night cruise, you may end up spending more than the extra D+ benefits would get you. the jump to D+, doesn’t get “much” more than you already get at Diamond.  The biggest difference is the 30% discount on the DLB, but with cruise planner sales, you can probably get a similar price.

now, we did a 3 night cruise last summer since it would push us to Diamond for our first cruise this year and save us $300 by. It buying the Refreshment Package.  The 3 night cruise wasn’t even on the list, but then it turned out to be the cheapest option of the other vacation spots we were looking into.  We paid for the cruise, gas for a 13 hour drive, and cruise port parking  for less than what just the hotel was going to cost at a location only 4 hours from home.  We turned it into a longer trip and visited St. Augustine while we we in the area.

We’re a family of two, so others experience may vary.

@Reigert2008I would disagree that the jump from D to D+ doesn't amount to much more. I was 4 points away from D+ this year. Luckily for me a casino comp came about, and I was able to get my status before my longer 7N group cruise in Oct. Being D+ I now get laundry, 2 days of internet, an extra drink voucher each night, BOGO on specialty dinning and a welcome gift. In my case that is a bottle of wine, which supplements my brothers need to purchase the DX. It cost me less than $500 and what I am getting values out as more.

D+ keeps getting better too with extra stuff coming at 340 and 525.

Are these worthy of being named levels in the program?  Probably not.  However depending on your cruising habits they can be important.  340 was a turning point for me as a solo cruiser.  I've saved tens of thousands from it.  In fact it's  probably the biggest money saver for me in the whole program.

Like at least a few here, I keep track of all my cruise associated costs in a spreadsheet.  Data like Cost per Person; Cost per Person per Day; etc.

Among the many calculations I track Cost per Cruise Point.

I am happy to report that my lowest cost per point was $15.50 for 28 points, I also have a number in the $20 range.

My most expensive point cost has been $653.71   I also have a number in the $400. and $500 ranges, a lot of those are suites.

Total of 55 cruises and I'm averaging right around $200 per cruise point.
